After picking up just three points in the opening eight league matches under Dick Advocaat, it was no real surprise to see Sunderland part company with the Dutchman last month. Given that new manager Sam Allardyce has never been relegated from the Premier League, the Wearsiders will be optimistic of yet another great escape, though so far, the jury is out on Big Sam’s start at the Stadium of Light.

Although the former West Ham boss registered a first win and clean sheet of the campaign – courtesy of a 3-0 victory over neighbours Newcastle – their 6-2 thumping at Goodison in the following league fixture brought them firmly back down to earth.

With three losses in his first four fixtures at the helm, then, we assess Allardyce’s impact on Sunderland as they look to build momentum and claw their way out of the bottom three.

No idea. I understand not playing him away to everton as he rarely tracks back, but was surprised to see him omitted at home to southampton and then not brought on when we were chasing the game. Wonder if allardyce has had a bust up with him.

Question: If Vardy isn't in the squad at all this weekend, does his run end? Is the record in consecutive games played for the player?

        Haha are you actually? 😛

Really not sure how Firmino's stock has managed to drop so much in about 3 months 🙄

You gotta admit, if he starts to get regular games, he could be alright, at least better than Sunderland.

Not sure?! He's played 364 PL minutes with no goals and one assist! 😛

I completely understand people's skepticism until he starts producing. 😉

When you put it like that yeah 😛

He was played alá Markovic (irregularly and on the wing in a more defensive position than he's ever played before), and has now assisted 2 goals in his last 2 starts since Klopp joined..

            1. Somalion
              • 15 Years
              10 years, 20 days ago

And that's fair, he was used a bit differently though he had very rarely played on the wing in Germany. I'm not one for too many stats but his aren't great. Also, one of those assists was against Ruben Kazan, so I'll probably ignore it 😉

Maybe he'll do well, assuming he starts, but my sense is that perhaps this purely based on fixtures after the City game. I understand why you're punting though, I also understand why others are reluctant 😛

Finalising my wildcard and have only 1 dilemma:

Play Deuleofeu and leave 4.5 itb. for Lukaku -> Aguero next GW
Play De Bruyne and leave 0.0 itb. Next week transfer De Bruyne & Lukaku -> Aguero & Deuleofeu for a hit.

Basicaly the question ist who will score better this GW, Deuleofeu or De Bruyne?

That's not a bad shout, Moreno looks extremely attacking, even moreso than Kolarov recently.

Doesn't mean Firmino won't also outscore someone like Deulofeu / Bolasie.

And Moreno outscoring him is? 😛

I'm not basing my Firmino-pushing on much historical data (at least not really recent historical data), but people are putting him down as a flop before he's even given a string of games in his position, which Klopp seems to intend on doing according to his recent comments on the kid.

It's like buying Neymar and expecting him to play LWB.

Nope not at all. But then, Deulofeu certainly is, Bolasie may be as well though I haven't checked. The Neymar part I'll let pass as slight overzealousness 😉 its more like buying an AM and expecting him to play RW, which he has done before (as I say only rarely in Germany). I've not written him off as a flop, but I couldn't encourage purchasing as of yet. At least I'd tell people to see how he shows against City, while I rake in some lovely Deulofeu points 😉

I am having second thoughts about Lukaku(c) because they were tight against City...

Crystal Palace + MNF...He should get at least an assist is what I thought

That really wasn't the best City team with no recognized striker and they missed a fair few chances anyway . I would go Lukaka

They weren't. They were just lucky. City should have scored few there.

No chance, awfully inconsistent, I think he'll be a disappointment to own let alone captain.

Risky I know..don't have much options in my Team..could go for a second consecutive Smalling (c) or Lukaku (c)...but I am having second thoughts about Lukaku(c) because Aston Villa were tight against City...

You don't have Kane or Sanchez?

I'd definitely go for Lukaku over Bolasie, I may captain Lukaku myself this week.

Is Vardy(C) a too risky choice now?

    Team is

    Butland
    Bellerin, Moreno, Darmian
    Mane, Barkley, KDB, Sanchez, Mahrez
    Vardy, Pelle

Cant see better (C) Option than Vardy, but if hes not fit...

Coin toss between Kane and Lukaku, haven't decided yet. I have been getting 50/50 captaincy calls wrong on a weekly basis, so whoever I go with, go with the other one!

There are a few factors each way that COULD swing it, but they keep ending up balancing out. I can't really separate them, it will come down to something arbitrary (like which matches I can watch this weekend).

I'd go Kane out of those 2.

I have the feeling RG will really focus on tightening the ship up.

No but they should mostly be in scout tweets. If someone wants to later on collect all the comments into one post I'd be happy to hot topic 🙂

Nah, doubt it. He said he'll ask the player - and what's Koscielny going to say? 10 times out of 10 when a player is asked whether they want to play they say yes.

Sanchez is always capable of a haul, and we know that WBA have struggled against quick wide players, but he looks tired. I'd go with Kane.
