After picking up just three points in the opening eight league matches under Dick Advocaat, it was no real surprise to see Sunderland part company with the Dutchman last month. Given that new manager Sam Allardyce has never been relegated from the Premier League, the Wearsiders will be optimistic of yet another great escape, though so far, the jury is out on Big Sam’s start at the Stadium of Light.

Although the former West Ham boss registered a first win and clean sheet of the campaign – courtesy of a 3-0 victory over neighbours Newcastle – their 6-2 thumping at Goodison in the following league fixture brought them firmly back down to earth.

With three losses in his first four fixtures at the helm, then, we assess Allardyce’s impact on Sunderland as they look to build momentum and claw their way out of the bottom three.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Quick question.. How many people saying Deulofeu is a poor option have actually seen him play the past few weeks? the guy looks on fire! You need a healthy mix of stats + the eye test sometimes
    Same with Alli

Alli looks good, but I'm not pushed on relying on defensive mids for attacking returns..

Deulofeu though, is a Barca scummer, rejected by Barca for having a horrific attitude, I think he has a ceiling, and may well tick over with points for the short term but I'm 100% expecting regression and his stats only back that up.

Not a horrible option, not the best one either though.

          1. Valar(Keith)
            • 16 Years
            10 years, 20 days ago

We'll have to agree to disagree on Deulofeu.. the attitude problems seem behind him(captain of spain U-21;s) and has the confidence and the skill. Alli is not as defensive a mid as people make him out to be either.. always swaping with Dembele for the no.10 spot and is very involved with attacks. that being said i still got to decide between the two as my Yaya replacement(And Aguero enabler)

            1. Irish Madridista â
              • 15 Years
              10 years, 20 days ago

Hmm, not sure on Alli, he may well be more attacking than I realise, haven't seen too much of him or looked into him as I haven't needed a cheap mid yet..

You also may be right on Deulofeu, there's arguements for both improvement and regression, tis just a cheap-enough punt with decent fixtures and good form 🙂

Best of luck with whoever ya choose mate!

Not sure I agree, have always played the stats game and it has very rarely guided me wrong. People were saying the same about Martial and Wijnaldum..

I've used a mix of both over the past few years and it's served me well.. watching 90 minute games( and not just motd) is sometimes the best way to scout a potential fpl buy. That being said i did get Shelvey in GW 3 based on me watching him 😆

The problem with Deuf is his stats just aren't just average..they are really quite poor. Based on the patterns I have seen time and time again, unless there is an massive upturn it would be extraordinary for him to keep it up..

I think the important part of this has been missed - fixtures are superb. Everton have already shown they can score big v the lower teams (sorry Chelsea). This combined with a guy who must be full of confidence atm is a potent mix imo.

with FPL you have to follow the form, Martial may be due a goal but Kane and Vardy are actually scoring atm, unless you go 3-4-3 and put barkley, cresswell and targett on the bench

    A: Payet --> Ozil, then Mane & Costa --> 4.5 & Aguero (-4) next week

B: Payet --> Cabaye, then Costa --> Aguro (free) next week

    what do we reckon?

    ----------Rojo--------Kolarov---------Bellerin----------------
    ------Sanchez----De Bruyne----Payet——Mane-----Mahrez----

Point made, but Remi Garde seems to have put some solidity in them

They still conceded 17 shots last week, 10 in the box, City just couldn't finish.

*13 total, not 17. But they did get a couple of really good chances on 2nd half.

Over all it still looked like very restricted version of City who averaged 19 spg before that match.
