We call upon a trio of midfielders this afternoon as Fantasy managers brace themselves for a hectic mid-January period that hands us two Gameweeks over the next few days. West Ham’s fit-again playmaker is back on our radar and joined by a couple of wide men this time around as the minutes tick down to another deadline.

Dimitri Payet

Dimitri Payet (7.7) picked up where left off on his return from injury against Liverpool, pirouetting out of challenges and fashioning two key passes in a second-half cameo. The France international was subsequently afforded another 30-minute run-out in the Hammers’ midweek FA Cup encounter, priming him for a start in the league.

Payet was pitched at 7.5 at the start of the campaign but saw his valuation bloom to 8.3 in the wake of an eye-catching purple patch (four goals and three assists across six outings). Now priced back at 7.7, there’s a great opportunity snap up a player that’s only failed to deliver attacking returns in three of the 11 matches he’s started and finished this term.

Throughout the course of the campaign, Payet ranks second – behind Mesut Ozil (one every 20.4 minutes) – for key-pass frequency (23.4) and top among the Iron’s midfield contingent for shots on target (11). Only Swansea (four) have tallied fewer goals than Bilic’s troops (five) during the seven Gameweeks that Payet was consigned to the treatment room, underlining his importance to their attacking output.

West Ham excelled on the road when Payet was fit – besting the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool while tallying 12 goals in six outings – so the prospect of back-to-back away fixtures (sou, new) should not be a deterrent. Aside from the fact that the Cherries have recorded just two clean sheets at home, the Hammers will be encouraged by attacking form that has them ranked second for shots in box (24), joint-second for big chances (five) and top for shots on target (14) across the past two Gameweeks.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha (5.3) netted the winner for Crystal Palace in their 2-1 triumph over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, alerting us to his differential potential in the budget bracket. The ex-Manchester United recruit is yet to establish himself as a serious contender on the Fantasy scene (two goals, three assists) but has terrorised defences with his nimble footwork at greater regularity this season, earning three penalties in the process.

Although the Eagles have recorded three successive blanks in the league, they’re set to receive a timely boost with the return of Connor Wickham – who’s been training with the first team after shaking off a calf complaint. Alan Pardew’s men failed to score in the two Gameweeks prior to Wickham’s comeback in Gameweek 12 but went on to chalk up 11 goals in six match-ups with the former Sunderland marksman spearheading their attack.

At Villa Park, the Eagles will meet a side that ranks rock-bottom for clean sheets (two) and second for goals conceded (37). The home side also have an issue in the right-back area, with Alan Hutton sidelined – that could see skipper Micah Richards deployed out of position and up against a lively Zaha.

Palace, meanwhile, rank third for road wins (five), having tasted defeat just twice on their travels. With a trip to Man City and home clash against Tottenham Hotspur immediately following the Gameweek 21 fixture, the Londoners should go all out to snag all three points and keeping pace with West Ham in the tussle for a Europa League berth. Zaha may yet prove to be a key figure in those ambitions.

Raheem Sterling

With the majority of Fantasy managers plumping for Kevin De Bruyne (28% ownership) and Yaya Toure (18%) in their pursuit of Man City coverage, the 9%-owned Raheem Sterling (8.7) represents a departure from the crowd. Although he lays claim to inferior form, the jet-heeled winger supplied an assist against Norwich City in the FA Cup and netted in his last home start. Moreover, all of his attacking returns in the league (five goals, three assists) bar one assist, have arrived at the Etihad, which bodes well ahead of Everton’s visit.

Delving into his underlying statistics, only three midfielders amassed more shots on target (five) than Sterling over the last four Gameweeks, while he ranked second – behind Aaron Ramsey (23) – for penalty-box touches (20). Taking the season as a whole, the former Liveprool recruit has chalked up six more shots inside the box (27) than any of his Sky Blues counterparts and the joint-most shots on target (18).

For all the Toffees’ attacking verve of late, Sterling will fancy his chances against a rearguard that placed joint-second for goals conceded (10) over the previous half-dozen Gameweeks. Additionally, Roberto Martinez’s squad has failed to exert control while on the road, ranking eighth for big chances conceded (16) and eighth for shots inside the box surrendered (83). Man City, though, have accrued six more home goals (29) than the rest of the field and rank top for shots on target (73) on familiar soil.

Everton will also be wary of their right-back area with Seamus Coleman sidelined. City’s combination of Aleks Kolarov and Sterling could be a key weapon in Wednesday meeting, with Pellegrini perhaps concentrating attacks in that area in light of Coleman’s absence.

Caulker is a woeful player, not sure why he's needed, just use the young lads, and he's on big wages, apparently more than Subotic earns. But its only on loan thankfully, as stupid as it appears.

Hasnt had a proper run with any team due to rotation with them all remember he was in the England squad not long ago this could light a fire under his belly besides if it turns out to be crap it's only a loan signing nothing too cost effective is good.

McCarthy out for Hennessey or Eliot.

      Arsenal defender would not hurt.

Now choose a starting lineup. Also get rid of barkley as was suggested. Your team value must be low if you only got 0.3 itb and don't have aguero. I'd downgrade a defender, maybe dann to ward. And McCarthy should be nowhere near any WC side

Hmmm... read an interview of Curtis, and it seems that as Swans wide attackers have been totally transparent both in defence and attack, Tabanou might become an OOP defender for a cheap price. Any recent hints about him being in the squad or being, instead, transferred out?

Has anyone looked at the fixtures for the second half of the season?

Liverpool have no (traditional) top teams away from home and I am trying to figure out if this is a good thing for them or a bad thing? If they get their stuff together they could provide some serious options for the second half of the season.

I just went into the ticker here and reduced all the away ratings to zero so I could see who had the easiest home fixtures from now to the end and there was some very surprising results which could offer up some serious value for those who like to rotate h/a.

Watford look to have exceptional home fixt. I was actually contemplating selling Ighalo for Kun but no way that is happening with those home games.

Everton also look to have a great run at home so Lukaku also has to stay.

WBA home games look v tasty also. This may be a reason why they have not posted too many home cs so far this season (played a lot of the tougher teams at home already?).

Saints are interesting but they do have MCY, CHE and LIV same as Swans whose next 6 home games are sweet as.

For another source of cheaper h/a rotationg Newcastle might not be a bad place to start. WHM, MCI are the only big teams they face until TOT on the last day of the season.

Wijnaldum playing no10 is starting to interest me looking at the fixt. He is cheap enough to rotate home and away.

I have no Lei cover but they also have some juicy home fixt and are cheap enough to rotate h/a if you are brave enough.

Looking at Everton fixt and Barkley may even come into my thinking for h/a rotation especially with possible dbl gw's on the agenda also.

Yes, I like/am going with all of that. In order for Wijnaldum to succeed, Sissoko needs to be hot.

I will have some Leicester for this:

I had not considered Wijnaldum before looking at the fixt and tbh he is not worth looking at seriously until gw 29. From gw29 on though I think you could play him in 8 of the last 10.

Everton I am a bit unsure on too tbf. I think with Jags back they will look a bit more solid but they need Mcarthy kept fresh too and RM seems to play him every minute of every game cup or otherwise that he is available for.

On h/a rotation you are not necessarily looking for the team to be top 4 or even european class, all you need is a flat track bully who fills his boots v the weaker teams and if he goes missing in the big games who cares. I think Barkley will be pushing hard second half of the season especially with the euro's in mind (as will lukaku)

Still looking at the fixtures does throw up some interesting potential opportunities for the more discerning fpl manager. I must admit I was very surprised to see who had the nice home fixt. I especially didn't expect to see Leicester with such a nice run.

Well, I will have the best Watford defender that I can afford, and will continue my policy of three Spurs, all being equal.

If Reed starts to get minutes, I may get Fonte.

I am not as keen on Liverpool as you, because I think that there may well be some major changes there.

I hope to maintain Kolarov and Walcott, with Payet's help.

I am not overly keen on Liverpool tbh, I'd say I see them as a bit of a conundrum rather than me being keen.

Arsenal have a decent run at home and we know Walcott is decent with his pace on the counter away so he should be pretty fixt proof if he can keep his spot.

Saints just look a mess at the moment and I am not sure if even Koeman can turn it around for them.

The Hammers home games look horrid. I know they were good on the counter in the earlier gws but I think they will need all their pacy players back before Payet will be able to work his magic with those fixt.

As far as we are concerned, we are no longer the team we once were. I would keep an eye, if I were you. 🙂

Yes but they are very much lose-able also. Not many clear cut things there with potentially a lot of draws on the cards?

There is always that form over fixtures ofc. When looking so far ahead though form is a little irrelevant don't you think?

Not at all. That is why Everton may well be fecked, and why we may go steaming ahead.

You need to look at the respective benches/MIA, imo. For the first time in my memory, we have a SQUAD - I mean, a real squad, not a couple of makeweights. In addition, I have not known the team spirit to be this good since Cottee/McAvennie/Devonshire.

It means that they will have less of easy home fixtures, which are the ones in which teams tend to get the really big scores. But on the other hand, they will have none of really tough away fixtures, so maybe a more consistent source of points.

Is this good for defence or attack though?

I have Moreno and am wondering if I should just keep and perma play him with sporadic cs and attacking points always a chance?

Not on home away rotation as they don't have many easy home fixt. If you are playing him only in away games then I think points may be very hard to predict.

Liverpool will remain inconsistent for the foreseeable future, we just don't seem to click, individuals are inconsistent but mostly the squad is not yet up to the fitness Klopp likes to have in his teams. Next season will be when real change is seen, and sadly that'll be of no use to us. :/

        I agree to an extent.

So do you think Liverpool being top overall for fixture ease should be ignored fpl wise?

    WC Team

    Butland (Hennessey)

    Koscielny, Alderweireld, Cresswell, Williams, Bennett

    KDB, Mahrez, Ozil, Alli, Stanislas,

    Aguero (c), Kane, Ighalo

Plan is to to get Payet in for Alli maybe after the city game, depending how quickly he's back to his old self, got money in the bank for him.

    I'd appreciate any feedback!

    1) Who to bench from ramsey (have ozil), alli (have kane), mane, kaku
    2) who to cpt from Kun and Kane
    3) Start Moreno ( and save FT) or Williams (use FT to do dawson >> williams)

    @FISSH

No worries. I wasted mine earlier this season.

Have you brought in Kun? I cant decide if its worth WCing to bring him in or ditching Lukaku for him. I've got a feeling Lukaku may struggle this next few weeks but I could be very wrong. Also his ownership scares me!

Other option is to drop Vardy for him but would definitely have to WC.
