Next up this Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

With a couple of trips to Watford and Palace on his Gameweek 33 agenda, Romelu Lukaku is the standout armband candidate for this week.

A massive 75% have backed the Everton striker to serve up the points against a pair of defences with just two clean sheets apiece in their last 14 league outings. Lukaku – who has two goals and an assist in his previous four – has already scored or assisted against both teams earlier in the season.

City’s home encounter with West Brom has earned Sergio Aguero 8% of the votes. Having produced 25, 16 and 11-point hauls in front of his own fans, the Argentine is one of the few players capable of outscoring any double Gameweek option, though the Baggies have tightened up in recent matches and conceded just once in the last three.

Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon sit around the 2%-mark for their respective doubles. Whilst four goals and an assist in seven underlines the latter’s form, Bolasie and Barkley have been highly unpredictable.

The Palace winger has earned points in only five of his 21 league outings ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Norwich and Everton, though the Canaries have one away clean sheet all season, whilst the Toffees have a couple of shut-outs in nine.

Although Barkley is more nailed-on than Lennon, he has netted in just one of his last 16 appearances – a pair of penalties against Newcastle in Lukaku’s absence back in Gameweek 24.

Elsewhere, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane are backed by 1%. Like Aguero, all four are capable of explosive single-Gameweek hauls but can any of them realistically usurp Lukaku in our thinking?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Would you have DDG if it meant taking a -4 to play 11 in 35 or just get migs now?

If u already have Man U cover in DEF then I'd go Migs (Newcastle in GW35) if not then DDG purely for his tasty DGW

Just my thoughts. People who are choosing Simpson over Delaney. Wouldn't it be better to get Delaney and transfer him out after GW34. That way you'll get 4 games instead of 2 from Simpson.

Should I do Kane > Martial now or wait a week?.

For 35 I'd have to take a -4 to get a playing 11 but will get Kane back

I have finally seen the light 😎

    - 3 or 4 dgw33 player
    - 14 or 15 dgw34 player
    - 10 or 11 player for gw35

    Darlow - Robles

    Smalling - Bellerin - Gabriel - Sakho - Simpson/Delaney

    Sanchez - KDB - Payet - Lanzini - Bolasie -> (Cout in gw35)

    Aguero - Martial - Lukaku

We need to talk about Clichy.

+ Fixtures: WBA, DGW, and gw35 fixture (STK).
    + Price: 5.3 isn't a lot for a City defender.
+ Team: Kompany and Hart are coming back to boost CS potential.
+ Form: In contention for City's March player of the month alongside Yaya and Fernando.

"But he is not nailed on" you will say. I have looked a little deeper into it and he might be a bit more nailed on than most people think 🙂

    - He has started in 10 out of the last 11 games, only missing the FA Cup game vs Chelsea where Pelle fielded youngsters.
    - His threat, Kolarov, has only got two sub appearances in the last 5 games - both times he has come on for an attacking player, leaving Clichy on the pitch. Seems to me like Pelle doesn't trust Kolarov's defensive abilities anymore, and that he has decided to use him as an attacking player of the bench. Him scoring vs Bournemouth when coming on for KdB could keep Pelle thinking in the same lines.

What do you think, is he worth a spot in our WC teams? Personally I'm finding him hard to ignore.

I have Clichy for all the reasons above and these:
      - I want a City defender
      - I'd rather have DDG than Hart
      - Mangala is a risk with Kompany potentially back next week

I did , just reiterating that he is at best a good single gameweek player. City were not playing Champions League quarter-finals then , Travelling back after a tough game in Paris , Clichy will be rested for next week , in all probability he will be rested this weekend again WBA.

I guess we'll see. Totally possible to play them all.

              City's schedule:
              Apr 2
              Apr 6
              Apr 9
              Apr 12
              Apr 16
              Apr 19

He's already played a month ago:
              Feb 24
              Feb 28
              Mar 2

I assume then that he was injured between the City win in the Capital One Cup on the 6th of January and the Swansea loss in the PL on the 24th of January? He came on as a sub in the next two matches and missed 3 matches in between.

Need help with the WC team.
This might sound STRANGE to everyone, but in our mini-league we don´t copy players so the team might be weird.

    Henny, Darlow
    Gabriel, Sakho, Clichy, Morgan, Delaney
    KDB, Sanchez, Payet, Lanzini, Lennon
    Aguero, Martial, Defoe

0,5£ in bank. If I do NO TRANSFERS i´ll have the following:

    GW33) 3xDGW
    GW34) 12xDGW
    GW35) 9 playing
    GW36) No worries
    GW37) 6xDGW

Keep Mahrez (a lot invested in him) or get Barkley/Lennon/Milner? Thinking long term here, leaning towards Milner (even though I already have Coutinho)

It's really tough mate - I've binned Mahrez with a very, very heavy heart as that's basically it with me and him for the rest of the season.

BUT in MY case I binned him for Coutinho; if you have a DGW defender and goalkeeper I'd keep Mahrez, provided you have

    Fine tuning:

    A) Gabriel and Lazini
    or
    B) Janmaat and Iwobi

Why didn't Otamendi play vs United?
