Next up this Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

With a couple of trips to Watford and Palace on his Gameweek 33 agenda, Romelu Lukaku is the standout armband candidate for this week.

A massive 75% have backed the Everton striker to serve up the points against a pair of defences with just two clean sheets apiece in their last 14 league outings. Lukaku – who has two goals and an assist in his previous four – has already scored or assisted against both teams earlier in the season.

City’s home encounter with West Brom has earned Sergio Aguero 8% of the votes. Having produced 25, 16 and 11-point hauls in front of his own fans, the Argentine is one of the few players capable of outscoring any double Gameweek option, though the Baggies have tightened up in recent matches and conceded just once in the last three.

Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon sit around the 2%-mark for their respective doubles. Whilst four goals and an assist in seven underlines the latter’s form, Bolasie and Barkley have been highly unpredictable.

The Palace winger has earned points in only five of his 21 league outings ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Norwich and Everton, though the Canaries have one away clean sheet all season, whilst the Toffees have a couple of shut-outs in nine.

Although Barkley is more nailed-on than Lennon, he has netted in just one of his last 16 appearances – a pair of penalties against Newcastle in Lukaku’s absence back in Gameweek 24.

Elsewhere, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane are backed by 1%. Like Aguero, all four are capable of explosive single-Gameweek hauls but can any of them realistically usurp Lukaku in our thinking?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hey guys, thoughts on my plan? Is it worth risking Darmian in order to squeeze in everyone else?

    GW34 - Bolasie > Lanzini or Antonio
GW35 - Martial > Pelle or Lukaku > Kane (depending on form)

This will give 13 DGW in GW34 and will have 10 in GW35 which I can live with.

    Robles - Darlow
    Bellerin - Gabriel - Darmian - Sakho - Simpson
    Payet - Mahrez - Sanchez - Bolasie - Coutinho
    Aguero - Lukaku - Martial

I know this isn't particularly constructive but I don't like Rojo's rotation risk (even more after his last performance) and a LIV double seems almost irresponsible lol. But out of the 2 I think Rojo due to your lack of Man U cover and their cleany potential.

    To resume,

    - Rooney nearly back to fitness, might be in for a cameo this GW. Rashford place to be monitored.

    - Valencia back - Darmian place in doubt imo.

    - Silva/Yaya out, can affect Kun's outcome

    - Guus to align young players - Pato a good differential.

    - Henderson out, Milner might need to play deeper - impact on outcome

Delaney, Milner and Rashford in my team

How did I let things get so bad with this wildcard 😆

Here's hoping it isn't as bad as it looks.... 😆

Rooney is back and he needs game time for Euros.. LVG can't risk benching him..

Well he's only playing his first match on Monday which is an U21s game. I highly doubt he'll start both games of the DGW, albeit they are perfect two home games to wean him back in.

Only want Rashford for GW35 anyway and going with him lets me get Smalling who is safe. Though I could go with Martial and play it risky with Darmian

I have Milner. This Henderson news is not good at all for his output playing deeper.

Joe Allen will come in and play deeper surely?

Payet, Lennon and Milner is better than Lanzini, Barkley and Lallana, right?

A seems better to me. I was going to get Barkley but the Scoutcast really put me off.

    Robles
    Ward Bertrand Daniels
    Mahrez Barkley Bolasie Payet
    Aguero Lukaku Vardy

    (De Gea, Fuchs, Dier, Silva)

Good to go for tomorrow? Main concern is leaving Fuchs on the bench but fancy Daniels if he's still on penalties against Alan Hutton, and reckon Bertrand is a more likely CS.

    RP, crazy on here tonight.

    Is my wildcard team G2G?

    Robles, Darlow
    Smalling, Monreal, Sakho, Gabriel, Simpson
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Firmino, Lennon, Payet
    Aguero, Lukaku, Martial

My main concern is the the lack of KDB, but just too tricky to swap Firmino out for him without messing up the back 5. Many thanks

Surely with Hendo's injury, Milner will play further back, and Lallana, Cout and Firm will all be guaranteed starters for both of the doubles?
