We draw the curtain on Gameweek 2 in suitable fashion, by collecting our thoughts on the player, the team and the key talking point.

The Player

There really is no contest.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already taken the Premier League by storm, muscling his way past shell-shocked centre backs and into our Fantasy line-ups.

Hands up, I was initially fooled by his languid style and ageing legs. I doubted he could immediately click in a Manchester United side that almost had to learn how to attack with purpose again after Louis van Gaal’s laboured tenancy.

But Zlatan has let the goals do the talking, which is just fine when you have Paul Pogba doing the rest.

As I’ve already mentioned on these pages, it is Pogba’s performance and the way in which he transformed the United machine that convinced me to shed my doubts on the Swede.

It’s difficult to see United failing to control and dominate the majority of teams with Pogba stationed in the double pivot. His energy will surely be the spark to drive United forward and, in doing so, ensure that Ibrahimovic is readily supplied with opportunities in the box.

He’s already proven just how deadly he can be with service and with spot-kicks now thought to be assured, Ibrahimovic is just too intoxicating to ignore.

The Team

Having given Hull City their moment in the sun in Gameweek 1, Mike Phelan’s side soaked it up, offering up another nomination a week later after an impressive win at Swansea City.

But instead we will turn to another promoted side.

Burnley battled against improbable odds to conjure a victory against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, offering us another reminder that, early in the season, there is often reliable value amongst the new arrivals from the Championship.

Sean Dyche’s side have been here before; they could, and perhaps should have survived in 2014/15.

The Clarets boss now knows exactly how to approach games like the Liverpool encounter: shelve ambition, strangle the centre of the pitch and break with speed and purpose.

It was a policy employed even in the Championship at times, as Dyche exploited Sam Vokes’ physicality alongside the pace and clinical finishing of Andre Gray.

Both opened their accounts on Saturday. Both will look to reach double figures and provide strong FPL value.

Then, in goal, there is Tom Heaton.

Already ranked as the top keeper, the Burnley skipper looks to be a gift. A goalkeeper who will churn out regular save points, behind ten players who, at times, will be drilled to contain opponents in order to earn a result at all costs.

The Talking Point

We have to return to Ibrahimovic.

There’s no doubt we have to acknowledge the excitement he has already brought to our season but, at the same time, we should also take time to consider how, together with Sergio Aguero, he’s already forced our hand.

It seems we have little choice but to plump for the Manchester pairing in our attacks.

In doing so, we’re taking debilitating chunks out of our budget and restricting, if not killing, our ability to react when midfield heavy-hitters start delivering.

Should Alexis Sanchez, Kevin de Bruyne and Dimitri Payet hit the heights again, many of us will be hamstrung and unable to exploit their form.

That is, unless we dare to rid ourselves of Ibrahimovic or Aguero. That seems unlikely.

Those chasing gaps, or even those who refuse to bend to the template attack, at least have a hope on the horizon. The heavy-hitting midfielders will eventually become effective differentials.

Two Gameweeks down and it’s difficult to see any asset competing with the output of Aguero and Ibrahimovic. Right now our only worry is deciding which of the two strikers earns the armband.

It’s up to the likes of Sanchez, De Bruyne and Payet to see if they can burden us with any further concerns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Good transfers.

      Only negatives:
Ibe doesn't look too sharp, however, he should have scored last week but decided to pass it across to Wilson. Won't make the same mistake again if he gets through on goal against a less than convincing Palace defence.

Tadic is about to score/assist, its only a matter of time. Redmond great to free up funds in the long run but if you take a hit to get rid and Tadic returns over Redmond against sunderlanf then you'll want to cry. Saint's beat them 8-0 at home two seasons back and Tadic returned 25 points. Just something to bear in mind.

Good plan. Keeping the FTs keeps your options open and you don't have to suffer a -4. I'd also be weary of a Chelsea clean sheet but IMO everyone should be on a 4.5/Jaku combo considering Kun/Ibra take up so much money so Courtious has to go.

I have no idea how to spend my FT. I have 2 saved and should use one.. But i have no transfers I want to make.

    Foster(jaku)
    VVD - Friend - Pieters - Amat - (4.0 without playtime)
Mahrez - Hazard - Townsend - Tadic (Capoue)
    Aguero - Ibra - Long

I really like Southamptions fixures, and having watched their games I have confidence in both Tadic and Long, so I don't want them out just yet.

I am thinking of just transfering out Pieter and to bring in Adam Smith for more of a goal threat.

    Any tips?

Can't see any reason why you need Long and Tadic myself so i'd get rid of one of those. If you are set against that then yeah, looks like it'll have to be Pieters

It just pains me to transfer out someone who dropped in price this early. Tadic has been looking great, so it would have to be Long. But with 0 ITB and every striker I would swap him for being priced 6.5 or higher I can't see a good solution.

            Thanks for the answer.

Yeah it was on Stones actually but might do McCauley....have Townsend, Redmond, Hazard, Barkley in mid so won't bench any of those or strikers to play all 4 defenders

Jesus it is only just past gw2 mate!!!

I haven't even bothered playing the team value gaining game yet ffs. Unless you are taking -8s and -12s or on a WC already, you sort of get what you are given at this point!

Essentially, if the players you picked either rose on their own, and/or didn't drop, and you picked up a riser last week, and this week, you are gold.

99.3 with 0.8 itb I think having had a couple of droppers. Whoopy do.

    Mandanda
    Shaw Mcauley Targett
    Hazard Mane Redmond Bojan
    Aguero Ibrahimavic Giroud
    Jakupovic Capoue Amat 4.0

If need to strengthen bench will downgrade Giroud or Shaw

      Mandana No
      Targett No

      Giroud No

      Apart from that decent though.

With Mandana it's more palace. Think they'll struggle this year. Not for picking players you'll went to shift straight out, I.e. Targett. Fair enough on the other two if you fancy them. Wenger did say that giroud not ready yet though.

Why do you have short term picks in your WC? And you're already talking about dropping people to strengten defence?

There will always be more pressing transfers than what you have planned.

Couple of those tweets were pretty grim. He'll do well to avoid suspension IMO but it was from 4 years ago so it's an interesting one. Hefty fine and slap on wrist maybe.

For the first time ever, maybe, struggling to use a transfer. Got 2 ft, want to save one. Any ideas?

    Foster (Jak)

    Stones Shaw Williams Friend McAuley

    Hazard Tadic Townsend Barkley Capoue

    Ibra Aguero Gray

Save til we know what happens with Gray suspension? Maybe Holgate > Williams?

    Cheers guys!

I don't think Holgate will get many more games? I am in the same boat as you are with the FTs I will just swap out Pieter for adam smith at 4.5 if I can't find anything else.

        Kone staying at Sunderland, mate?

Also, what you think about Love and McNair? Love is pretty attacking + he is 4.0 and McNair could play in midfield now.

Love is truly awful. He was only ever bought as back up and we're signing Manquillo (see below), who will be our first choice RB. Don't rate McNair either. Doesn't look like a midfielder and got hooked at HT on Sunday.

Not true. Vokesy and Gray have an arrangement. No one knows what it is but I think gray takes the ones he wins and Vokes takes all the others. So Vokes has a better chance of taking them.

Javier Manquillo. If you ever want a nailed on £4.5m SAFC defender, which lets face it might be never, then he could be your man (unless Kone stays).

Djilbodi the other option but not sure of his chance of attacking returns. Although I did notice we were aiming all corners to him (with no success) on Sunday.

For sure but then 5m for Sunderland def still seems a stretch at this stage. Most goals from a defender in the premier league in 2016 can't be discounted though.
