Harry Kane (11.2) may have mustered just a single shot away to Manchester United on Sunday but he’s still set to challenge at the top of our latest Captain Poll.

Chances should certainly be far more plentiful for the Spurs striker when Hull City drop by White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Mike Phelan’s Tigers have conceded 17 goals on the road this campaign, while Kane has scored a brace in his last two home outings.

Teammates Christian Eriksen (8.3) and Dele Alli (8.1) also failed to impress at Old Trafford, but against such a travel-sick side, are surely worthy of armband consideration.

Eriksen, in particular, appeared in fine fettle prior to Sunday’s Old Trafford disappointment, having scored three goals and assisted another in in the two matches prior to the Red Devils defeat.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (11.7) was another disappointment over the weekend, fetching just an assist and 5 points from Arsenal’s 3-1 victory at home to Stoke City.

However, away from home, the 34.8% owned Chilean is a different beast: he’s scored more goals and accrued more shots on target and created more chances for teammates than any other FPL midfielder.

The Chilean looks destined to rival Kane at the summit, particularly with the Gunners facing an Everton defence that has failed to keep a clean sheet over their last five outings, with just a single shutout in their last eleven Gameweeks.

With the hosts in such poor form Mesut Ozil (9.6) and Theo Walcott (7.9) may also gather interest. Both impressed in the Stoke City victory with a goal apiece. Indeed, Walcott registered more shots than any other player over Gameweek 15 although, with Arsene Wenger hinting at rotation, he may yet find himself kept in reserve at Goodison Park.

Given that they host Watford,  Manchester City may also provide a host of strong contenders this Gameweek, despite their 4-2 humbling away to Leicester City on Saturday evening.

However, interest in Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) is set to be muted with the Belgian now without a goal since Gameweek 5. He’s also failed to return an assist in his last three outings following Saturday’s defeat.

Pep Guardiola’s option of fielding Nolito as a false 9 may also force us to overlook the 8% owned Kelechi Iheanacho (6.8), who was hooked after just 57 minutes at the King Power Stadium.

His replacement on Saturday, Yaya Toure (£7.5m), could now present a short-term differential. The Ivorian would seem poised to start and get a run at a Watford defence that is without a clean sheet in their last five Gameweeks, conceding 13 goals.

Question marks remain over the reliability of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10.5) away from Stamford Bridge, which may just temper interest in the 38.4% owned Chelsea midfielder ahead of his trip to Sunderland. On the road, he has scored just twice, compared to six goals at home.

In marked contrast, Diego Costa (10.9) has emerged as one of this season’s most reliable performers both home and away.

It would be no surprise to see FPL’s most popular player among the poll’s frontrunners after delivering attacking returns in 13 of his 15 Gameweek starts. Sunderland, meanwhile, have conceded 14 goals at the Stadium of Light, with just one clean sheet from seven matches.

West Ham offer a trio of differential armband options this week due to a home fixture with a Burnley outfit that has shipped 15 goals across their six away trips.

That could garner votes for the 9.4% owned Dimitri Payet (9.1), who has delivered attacking returns in each of his last three Gameweek outings.

Michail Antonio (6.7), is another that may attract attention, as could striker Andy Carroll (6.1).

After impressing off the bench in his last two outings, the 1.6% owned Geordie looks to have done enough to have earn his second start of the season against the Clarets.

No side has scored more than Liverpool’s 37 goals this season, but a visit to a Middlesbrough side, which has conceded just seven goals in as many home fixtures, may force a rethink for those tempted by Reds assets.

Nevertheless, the attacking potency of 20.2% owned Sadio Mane (9.3), who has four assists and a goal over the last three Gameweeks, demands our attention. As does Divock Origi (6.7), who has scored four in four in all competitions.

Swansea City’s visit to West Brom offers further alternative armband options, with backers of Baggies duo Salomon Rondon (6.5) and Matt Phillips (5.4) confident of returns, given the defensive frailties of Bob Bradley’s side on the road.

Away from the Liberty Stadium, the Swans have allowed 15 goals and earned a solitary clean sheet.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Defs/bench GTG?

    Foster

Phil Jones is actually a decent footballer if he can stay fit. If fit he should be relatively nailed on making him a solid FPL option.

Think it will be Bailly-Jones on Wednesday. Jones rested last midweek so he should have no problems starting the next 3 games.

I can remember him scoring the odd header from set pieces back in the old days it would be nice to see some attacking returns as well but i know this is a big ask i got him mainly in the hope for some cs points

Very likely, he has been Spurs best player over the last few games and options to replace him (Sissoko, N'Koudou) don't look very threatening.

Fair point, but he's still spending most of the game out on the wing rather than as the fulcrum, and will stay there I reckon. I'm a massive fan, but too much money tied up when Erikson and others have more points potential.

Right now I personally don't see any obvious replacements, so no. (Already own Siggy, Sanchez, Hazard)

I will not spend a transfer getting him out because he hasn't returned recently.

However, if another strong option comes up, I will be happy to switch.

If you can afford Payet, I do think that move is puntworthy

I think he's worth hanging onto. You need a Liv midfielder, Mane will miss much of early 2017 and Coutinho is injured.

Honestly, it depends on the rest of your team..if you don't have much depth, all of those 2 pointers will add up over time from Evans with potential for a 6 here or there when rotation, benching and injuries occur. Better than Nyom's 0's. If you have depth and it's unlikely Nyom benching is an issue then I guess fair enough. But say you keep Nyom, and in one week another player you have gets injured. That's two guys on your bench hurt, and all players risk rotation. Safe rather than sorry imo. But if 0.2 Is the difference between you having like Payet or having to settle for Antonio or something, then I understand.

Thanks, good point made there. I've made my transfers (Payet & Toby A.) for this week and will hopefully hold my FT next GW so I have a bit of time to think on it and decide.

How are people feeling about West Hams midfield for the next few weeks?

Payet is an absolute beast on set pieces, Antonio is looking great again going forward but there's always a risk of position changes, Ayew coming back into contention but subbed yesterday for Carroll who's vying for a starting position!

I'm thinking about going with Payet myself for the next few weeks and then reconsider him vs Coutinho when he's back from injury/Mane is heading off to the ACON

B before A, Firmino has disappointed me as an owner for weeks now. I also see why Cech would have you frustrated though, who's your backup keeper? And any other Pool assets in your team?

      Who's your other keeper?

I'd go for both personally, Lloris has a great chance of CSs over the next 2 weeks and Cech has a great chance of no CS, hit pays its self off long term

Gotcha, I have gone the two cheapo keepers option myself, Foster and Pickford and rotated as their fixtures work out pretty well for that. I am so frustrated with Firmino but I am also very scared to have no Liverpool attack...they score tons (At the same time he hasn't done much in 4 weeks, and is now more on the left due to Coutinho injury). If you're going to do both, do it this week so you get the Hull fixture in. Don't think either is a bad decision. Could pay off v quickly if Spurs romp v Hull.

Thanks again. I took my first hit this season this week due to injuries so I'm usually one to keep faith. I actually still have Antonio in my squad due to more pressing matters and I've picked him on the right weeks recently. What's your side looking like this week? Cheers

Is Alonso still considered the best premium defender, with Bellerin and Toby back? Bellerin's immediately shown his assist potential and the upcoming set of fixtures look really good for Toby.

    Thoughts?

    1. Sweetboi
      • 10 Years

Alonso is the best option. Chelsea are better than Ars and Spurs for CS potential and Alonso is also the most attacking. Hector and Toby good options also however.

For me, getting in Toby means restricting my midfield choices massively. e.g. Even If I sold Firmino so I had the cash to get in Toby, that only leaves 8.1m which means Eriksen, Payet are unobainable, don't want Wally or Sterling for example. So that just leaves Antonio. So Toby & Antonio or Daniels & Anyone

That is actually my team apart from defs. I already have Alonso and could swop Valencia, Cedric, Brunt and Holebas for the other four. Overall I prefer the balance of what I have though

Ooft, that looks nice. I'm about a million shy. Could do it with a 3-5-2 and Anichebe up front.

They are the three defenders in the game imo! I've had Alonso for a while and got in Toby today! Toby may well turn into Bellerin for ARS good run of fix! I don't have Sanchez so I can afford to have two of those three going forward. It's a big risk but it may be worth it over time.

Probably a good move. Could pay off right away with Kane v Hull as captain.

Haven't seen much talk about this so far, and I don't own any United players, but surely the likes of Ibra and possibly Mata (who should come in for Mkhitaryan) should be worthy captain picks this week? Against a Palace side that's top of the "goals conceded" table atm.

If i was going to take a punt on a United mid now after Mkhy is out of the picture it would be Martial but it would be a big punt i am just going to stay clear of Uniteds mid for now i had planed to bring in Mkhy he is having no luck with his fitness unfortunately

Change Hazard to Costa (now i have Ibra) is a good idea?

If i do this my atack line will be next:
    Costa Kane Nacho
Sanchez Siggy Mane and someone of this (Matt Phillips, KDB or Walcott)

or Hazard punish me for this move?))
    Any suggestion guys?
