Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) furthered his case for inclusion in Fantasy managers’ frontlines with a brace in West Ham United’s pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Saturday.

Jack Wilshere (£5.0m) made his debut in the same match, as the Hammers were held to a 2-2 draw by the Championship club.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), who like Arnautovic has been reclassified as a forward in Fantasy Premier League this season, was also on target in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 win over Oxford United.

Andrew Robertson (£6.0m) set up Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) for Liverpool’s opening goal in the 3-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday evening. Joel Matip (£5.0m) was forced off early in the first half with a thigh injury.

Dortmund had beaten Manchester City 1-0 a day earlier, with Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Leroy Sane (£9.5m) both getting run-outs for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester United were also in action in the USA, taking on San Jose Earthquakes in California. Jose Mourinho’s side drew the match 0-0 as Antonio Valencia (£6.5m) limped off with a calf problem. Alexis Sanchez (£10.5m) and Anthony Martial (£7.5m) both started the match as part of a front three with youngster Tahith Chong.

Rui Patricio (£4.5m) and Raul Jimenez (£5.5m) made their Wolverhampton Wanderers debuts in the 0-0 draw with Bochum on Sunday. Patricio saved two penalties in the subsequent shoot-out defeat.

A largely second-string Everton side also lost on penalties over the weekend after a goalless draw with Lille. A stronger-looking line-up then drew another blank in the 1-0 loss to Porto on Sunday night.

Jonny Evans (£5.0m) and James Maddison (£6.5m) made their Leicester City debuts in the Foxes’ 4-1 win over Notts County, with Demarai Gray (£5.5m) among the scorers.

A Fulham side that featured Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m), Tom Cairney (£5.0m) and debutant Jean Michael Seri (£5.5m) were hammered 4-0 by Lyon.

AFC Bournemouth highlighted their attacking aptitude – and defensive frailties – in a 4-3 win over Levante, with Jermain Defoe (£6.0m) among the Cherries’ scorers.

Shane Duffy (£4.5m) and Jurgen Locadia (£5.5m) limped off as Brighton and Hove Albion slumped to a 2-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Oliver Norwood was on target for the Seagulls from the spot.

Huddersfield Town and Burnley both played two friendlies over the weekend. The Terriers lost 2-0 to Real Betis and 1-0 to Werder Bremen (both matches lasting 45 minutes) in Germany, while Sean Dyche split his squad for the encounters with Macclesfield Town and Curzon Ashton. Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) was on target in the 2-0 victory at Moss Rose, while Robbie Brady (£5.5m) returned from injury in the 5-1 win over the National League North side. Ben Mee (£5.0m) found the back of the net in this second match, with Sam Vokes (£5.5m) grabbing a brace.

Summer signing Josh Murphy (£5.0m) scored Cardiff City’s only goal in the 1-1 draw with Torquay United.

Our Scout Notes on Monday will analyse the weekend’s friendlies in greater depth, taking a closer look at personnel and formations and detailing every single goal-scorer and assist-maker.

The new teams after GW1 might dry up with no prizes for chip teams and a minimum of 2 GWs prior.

When did this “top 1%” thing become a thing ?

Top 40k is hardly an achievement. Yet I’ve noticed it all over the twitter and podcast experts pages recently.

tok 10k isnt the same when there are 10k players and 10mil players, is it?
Just to show you that it is all about %s, 10k was easier before. Especially since luck plays a part in this game.

top 1% has always been a thing. Back when a million players that meant 10k this season it more like 60k. Think the 1% is basically the lowest acceptable bar for someone who actually makes an effort

Don't agree with the old 10K being 50K now. The number of active teams for the whole season playing properly hasn't gone up 5 times since then.

Let's face it, 6m teams don't start GW1. At least 50% are dead before the season ends. Another 40% are dead at times during the season like DGWs/blanks or don't even use the chips.

There aren't 6 million players. No one can believe that. I'd wager the majority of the 6 million teams are duplicate accounts.

But in the old days there were not really a million, which is why 1% is used as a yardstick. It not perfect but it seems to be ballpark

I've had Coleman in my team pretty much since day one but I'm wondering if he's worth it. I'm not sure Everton are going to suddenly become a defensive stronghold under Silva so will be relying a lot on attacking points which didn't really materialise for him last season. Downgrading him to a 5.0 or even 4.5 will give me a bit cash to beef up my slightly sorry midfield.
Having said that, those early fixtures for Everton do look appealing.
So, Seamus Coleman - yay or nay?

In total points and % overall of the same.

Captaincy is an element of luck but knowing the share of points gives an indicator of positional choices

Alonso won’t get the attacking returns he did in previous seasons (same with Moses)... chelsea are getting rid of the wing-back system and going with 4 at the back again.

Without an expensive premium striker in your lineup it will be difficult to get in a Kane/Aguero/Lukaku/Aubameyang level of player when you need too.. your budget is not spread around enough.

My prediction if you go with this team.... you’ll be taking point hits to rearrange the structure to get more cash in the strikers.

I can't see it, Vokes is very much plan B (bring him on if chasing the game or defending a lead) and Barnes may start up from with Wood if they play 4-4-2 but not on his own.

    This template seems rather nice.

    Ederson.
    Robertson. PVA. Coleman. Bellerin.
    Salah. Mahrez. Eriksen. Costa.
    Kun. Wood/King.

    Subs: 4.0. Tomkins/Daniels/Cedric. Hughes. Kamara.

Rather flexible too, with the 5th defender and 4th mid rotating when necessary.

Thoughts? I don't think I'll go for it, but it is certainly a possibiliy.

I'm on Baines over Coleman, but in the minority. Isn't Baines on pens since Rooney left? I have Wood and now am not so sure. Can't see switching to a Burnley mid despite fixtures. GL

I have lamela as my third mid in a 343. I don't see him in a lot of teams. I like his potential the first few weeks at 6.5. Any thoughts?

I think he is a great choice for weeks 1 to about 3. I must say though I have only seen "lucky" players find differentials. The folks in the top 1k are usually conservative. That is why they are called differentials

Hey fam.. what’s ur thoughts on martial for this season?

Hopeful (from purely a fantasy percpective) that he will have a break out season)

It's either him or sanchez once the rest of the players return and are available. You think he can nail his place ahead of sanchez?

Martial was really poor in the pre season game last night. I’m not convinced at all at the moment.

    Rate my team:

    Begovic (Steklenburg)
    Alexander-Arnold Wan-Bissaka Shaw (Peltier Benett)
    Salah, Jota, Cairney, Mane, Mahrez
    Aubemeyang, Aguero (Quaner)

Suspect defense, good midfield. Personally I would downgrade auba, as I am not sold on him and arsenal, and upgrade at defense

    Which one is better?
    1) Aguero + Rambo
    2) Firmino + Dilva

1 when both are fit and in good form but not viable for the whole season, 2 would be more reliable in that case. I'd start with 1 personally.

Worried about your defense. TAA may not start first few games. Shaw will but not sure for how long. The rest 4.0s. Good attack though.

    A) Do you plan to start with a Chelsea defender? If so, which one? (not mentioning Schmeichel until/if it happens)
    B) How about Palace defence? Paying 5.5 for PvA, 5 for Sakho, 4.5 for Tomkins, 4 for Wan, or avoiding?

Currently 4 for Wan, but I like Tompkins. If I went for him I'd probably swap out Wan, I wouldn't want to double up on palace

Im asking because i have no spurs player but currently triple pool(mo,fir and robbo) so thinking should i switch firmino to someone cheaper forward and buy eriksen?

This Season - maybe Eriksen by 10 or so.... but wouldn’t put it past Firmino to improve again this year and get a hattrick or two, or a few games where he sets up 2 and scores 1 etc in which case he could be 10.0 or 10.5 next year.

For GW1-6 I would definitely back Firmino to score more points though

Not bad to be honest 7/10 bt I'd be wary of Fulham players i think they could struggle bt that's just me

Ars poor fixtures first 2 and Mkhi better option IMO.

      Not sure Smalling is nailed

Pedro could be a very astute pick

How strong should the bench be for start of the season?

    I’ve always started with a weak bench (4.0gk & 4.0def).

Bournemouth only 3 CS all season last year has put me off them
