Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

What do people think of this NO SALAH team?!
    Petricio, Fabianski
    Mendy, Robertson, Luiz, Doherty, Bissaka
De Bruyne, Erikson, Mane, Cairney, Costa
    Lacazette, Firmino, Zaha

Was toying with Auba but looks like he'll be the left of a front 3 with Lacazette up top. Aguero is always a rollercoaster, one week he'll score a hat trick, the next 2 he'll be on the bench. Food for thought though, cheers!

it could be the key to success but when a heavily captained Salah scores 2 goals do you have the mental strength to stand tough and be patient because you'll need to give your strategy a few months to find out if it worked?

I have the same 11 players as yours
      Except for:
      Foster Lowron Shaw Cairney 0ITB
      vs
      Stek PVA Bednarek Stephens 1.5ITB

I think that your bench might be a bit too weak.
Would like to know what you planning to do because these 4 players are the exact 4 players I'm not so sure about.

You dont want value sitting on your bench. Im confident my bench players start. Bednarek probably not long term, but my bench is only to get the odd 2pts when one of my 11 dont play. Not a fan of wasting money on the bench. Maybe the 1st sub is worth being 5m or above.

Also feel im in a position to be easily able to address any early concerns. Such as if Manè has a poor start and KDB returns or Hazard or Sanchez starts fireing. I can easily upgrade Manè in 1 Transfer. Hoping not to take too many hits this year.

Every season I get burnt by these 4.0/4.5 players that lose their place and start dropping in price, forcing me to loose FT or just take the price drops.

I think that at the beginning of the season I'd like to build TV and jump on bandwagon to catch those price raises
Don't see any 4.0 defenders or 4.5 midfielders that can become bandwagons.

In addition, Robbo & Mendy could be benched 1 game or 2 until I wildcard, so its nice to have good replacements.

          Best of luck mate!

Do not like the Hart/Hamer pairing. DEF looks pretty good, although who knows what will happen with Luiz and how much Robertson will be rested this season. MIDs and FWD pretty template at this point (not a bad thing).

I honestly don't think that I've ever struggled with an initial squad as much as I have this year. So much uncertainty...

Anyway, here's my first RMT posting for the season. Thinking about trying something a bit different, largely based on the comparative points earned by MIDs vs FWDs.

    McCarthy (Fabs)
    VVD - Mendy - Holebas (Wan-Bissaka - Boly)
Salah - Hazard - Sanchez - Jota (Gunnarsson)
    Arnie - Zaha - Tosun

0.0 ITB. Will change out Sanchez or Hazard for KDB (unless it looks like he will start this GW, in which case I'll have KDB from the start) then go from Gunnarsson to Kenedy (who I realize has horrible fixtures for a bit but could be good later).

    Thoughts?

Yeah, I thought that might be the case about Hazard. Could go Eriksen for one GW then plan on upgrading from there. I mostly wanted to roll out a squad that I will be wanting to run with from GW3 onward.

Always a sucker for fixtures and short term planning, so GW3 onwards will hopefully be :-

    Fabianski - Foster

    Mendy - Luiz - Alex-Arnold - Wan-Biss - Bennett

    Salah - KDB - Richarlison - McArthur - Hughes

    Aguero - Lacazette - King

Starting with Eriksen/Mane (KDB) and Arnautovic (Lacazette) + £3m itv

Open to keeping Arnautovic, but Arsenal/Man City’s fixtures too good to ignore....

Interesting. I always love to see squads that disrupt the norm a bit. My only concern is that it seems like the real heavy hitters are MIDs in this game, and you're putting a lot of faith in four MIDs who could give you a whole lot of nothing, which is especially concerning given that you don't have two big hitters up top (well, maybe, depending on how you classify Firmino). Interesting, but ehh...I don't know. Kudos, though, for switching things up a bit.

Think Hoedt could be a risk if Bertrand ends playing as part of a back three, and if he does play Southampton still look poor at the back.

    Robertson OR VVD?

Not 100% sold on Luiz and the bench feels too weak but not sure on other options, any thoughts?

      VVD more nailed
King over Mitrovic imo, tasty cardiff fixture
Not a fan of Keita, like Willian better
Not a fan of double CRY defense either

        VVD it is!
I see a little more rotation in Bournemouth, but fair point.
Keita is an unknown entity, would swap him after the first few GW.
        Cheers for your reply

    I'm settled.

    Patricio - 4.0
    Mendy - Robbo - Duffy - AWB - Peltier
    Salah - Mane - Richarlison - Jota - Chalobah
    Aguero - Laca - King

    Thoughts?

Not worried about Laca's starts? Or figure even if Auba starts, he'll be central?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Tried this last night:

    Ederson (Hamer)

    Cedric Bailly Robertson (Wan-Bissaka, Peltier)
    Jota Salah Richarlison Mahrez (Stephens)
    King Firmino Aguero

I like it. Looks similar to mine above. Laca over Firmino imo
