Legomané’s RMT

Rui Patricio, Hart

Robertson, Davies, Tomkins, Cedric, Wan-Bissaka

Salah, Mahrez, Eriksen, Kenedy, McArthur

Aguero, Arnautovic, King

The 2017-18 season nostalgia picks:

A number of players made their way into my squad before the game opened, last season’s returns fresh in mind..

Andrew Robertson’s end of season form was painful to observe as a Virgil van Dijk owner. At 6.0 he is ready to take up the Marcos Alonso mantle of most desirable defensive option in my opinion.

Mo Salah. Not out of fear. For the joy of FPL points.

With Danny Rose progressing to the World Cup Semi-Finals, Ben Davies was always going to be my next defensive target. The defender served many of us well at the beginning of last season, with double-digit potential and rotation over the opening fixtures less of a concern, he’s a must for me. I am conscious that I held onto Davies too long last season – this year I have earmarked Ben Mendy as my exit strategy, as and when.

Similarly, for Sergio Aguero, an early World Cup exit promoted him to the top of my summer watchlist, the anticipation of Brazil reaching the latter stages and rendering Gabriel Jesus a late starter seemed too good to be true. Aguero was a player I brought in ‘early’ last season at the moment everybody else switched from Morata to Firmino, GW17. I held him all the way through to GW32 so am familiar with the rotational fear that accompanies waiting for a City team sheet. I don’t know if he will be a long term pick, or if I’ll shift to Aubameyang after a few weeks (one of my preferred choices before the fixtures were released), but he’s nailed into my GW1 squad for sure.

Marko Arnautovic is another player I earmarked for inclusion at the end of last season. He’s just a fun player to own.

Kenedy is the final player in this group. A player I was keen on bringing into my squad last season, but for numerous reasons, never got round to, and watched on enviously as he returned a brace two or three gameweeks later. My squad structure includes two 5.0m midfielders and despite poor opening fixtures, he’s a player I’m keen to rotate in and out of my starting XI.

The desirables:

With Manchester City’s outrageous fixture run GWs 2-7, doubling up on attack seems bordering on essential. Having opted for Sergio Aguero, I am keen to leave a third slot open for manoeuvre after one or two weeks, once the returning KDB and co. are back in the mix. Riyad Mahrez is the player I’ve chosen. He’s a player that I’ve felt inclined to ignore over the past two season’s since his well earned price hike following the title winning season. But his FPL returns for Leicester last season, 16pts more than Sane make him almost irresistible in the City lineup. De Bruyne may well end up being the long term hold (or a double up partner) but for now, Mahrez IN!

Christian Eriksen is my third premium midfielder and it is the disarray at Spurs that draws me to him. With Kane potentially making a late return to the first team post-WC, I’m expecting the goal-thirsty Denmark version of Eriksen to step up to the mark.

My final desirable is Josh King. Early drafts included Zaha in this spot, and there are one or two 6.5 forwards I wouldn’t completely rule out – Wood, Mitrovic. King’s end of season form was mildly reminiscent to that of the previous season. Early sound bites from King about being unhappy played out of position last season lead me to believe he is about to recapture something of that form.

The uncertainties:

James Tomkins was a Free-Hit player I owned for Blank-Gameweek-35 last season. A modest 6-point return betrayed his involvement on the day, Livescore kept me informed of his numerous efforts on goal – so close to being a Free Hit hero! However, with Aaron Wan-Biassaka providing the role of 4.0 budget pick, I do wonder if doubling on Palace defence is a little much…

Cedric Soares was another early pick, a player that has always flattered to deceive in FPL. I am concerned about Mark Hughes ability to muster defensive resolve in his back line, not to mention a tummy bug denting his preseason return, so this 4.5 slot is very much up for grabs.

James McArthur was a non-pick last season thanks to the kindly priced Luka Milivojevic. However his goal scoring heroics did not go unnoticed. The arrival of Kouyate (and potentially RLC) could be a concern with the midfield options available to Hodgson fairly numerous. Helder Costa, Ruben Neves and Tom Cairney are all side steps I’m considering.

The Goal keeper pair is something I’ve toyed with a little. Pre-price releases, Dubravka at 4.5 was pencilled in as a potential set and forget, but with the early fixture run, a 5.0 valuation and the arrival and modest pricing of Portugese legend Rui Patricio at Wolves, my head has been well and truly turned!

Tapping in to Sean Dyche’s backline is something that I’ve been conscious of tinkering with since the game opened. With the defensive options receiving a token 5.0m valuation across the board, I see Joe Hart (assuming he hasn’t been brought in as cover for Lindegard!) as a reasonable budget route into the Burnley backline for the short to medium term – a spell that includes a very enticing opening run of fixtures.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Shaw should start at least 2 GWs since young isn't fit yet. Was thinking of swapping Shaw for either of TAA / clyne whoever starts and upgrading Robertson to Mendy ?

I like your team and I have fairly similar team structure particularly in goal and defense.

      Foster Fabianski
      Mendy Robertson Wan.Bissaka Boly Bednarek
      Salah Richarlison Mahrez Jota Stephens
      Firmino Auba King

Goalkeepers i've been weighing up for weeks now but i think foster/fabianski rotation is too good to turn down. I'm not sold on patricio like others. Mendy and robertson pretty default i think. Boly offers wolves defence cover that can be rotated better than patricio.

Your midfield and attack looks solid as well. But i compromised on a 3/4 players compared to you because i really wanted to squeeze firmino over arnie

Yeag, as a Pool fan Firmino would be ideal but couldn't balance the team with Aguero and Salah in there too so settled on Arnie for now.

In addition to the above I would consider switching out Coleman, after their pre season I don't have much faith in Everton's defence, wait and see maybe for a couple of GW's. Maybe Luiz as a place holder.

not good at all.defence is to weak, midfield is suffering as well. Choose one of Kun or Aub, get King in place of one of them and use the money to upgrade Kabasele, Peltier and Fraser.

First post as a full member. Please RMT, I think I am happy however today has concerned me which I will state below

    Ederson (Speroni)
    Luiz Bailly Bertrand (Alexander-Arnold) (Wan-Bissaka)
    Son Salah Sanchez Richarlison (Neves)
    Morata Zaha Austin

    Concerns

Richarlison - Amazing amount of transfers for Everton today, is there a rotation risk despite his high transfer fee
Austin - Ings rumoured to sign, who is likely to play?
Son - Not much of a concern but was tempted between Son and Ozil

Any comments advice welcomed, thank you!

Pretty sure Son is away for the start of the season playing in the Asian Games?
Feel Firmino may be safer than Morata, maybe different keeper to Speroni due to risk of price drop.

Richarlison will start the season. I've gone Wilson for a 6.0 striker I may be wrong

When do you plan to WC?
            - Can't see Luiz functioning in a 4-man defence over time.
            - I liked Cairney initially, but Fulham have strengthened a lot in midfield now.
            - Would perhaps prefer more attacking coverage from City.
            - Like RVPmagic, I'm not too fond of Sanchez (or any ManUtd forwards really - too few goals and Mourinho in a mood)

3 drafts: All of them have Salah and 14 different players. No common player between each draft. All nailed players. Bench depth of 2. The last bench is doubtful. Which draft would you pick?

    Draft A:
    ========
    Ryan | Button
    Robertson | Mendy | Coleman | van Aanholt | Wan-Bissaka
Salah | Eriksen | Bernardo Silva | Milivojević | Noble
    King | Agüero | Andone
    £0.5 in the bank

    Draft B:
    ========
    de Gea | Hamer
    Walker | Bailly | Lowton | Boly | Tomkins
    Salah | Mahrez | Ozil | Gross | Kenedy
    Firmino | Tosun | Sørloth
    £0.5 in the bank

    Draft C:
    ========
    Arrazibalaga | Steele
    Azpilicueta | Cresswell | Mee | Pereira | Dunk
Salah | Lucas Moura | Mkhitaryan | Willian | Stephens
    Aubameyang | Arnautovic | Zaha
    £0.5 in the bank

Feeling I may be told off but here we go.

Somewhat point chasing GW1 with the Arsenal City fixture. Plan would be to go to De Bruyne and possibly Aguero GW2 for Sanchez and Firmino.

    Foster

    Mendy VVD Cedric

    Salah(c) Sanchez Eriksen Cairney/Kenedy

    Firmino Tosun Wilson

    Bench: Fabianski Cairney/Kenedy Wan-Bissaka Peltier

    RMT please

    Wildcard planned after gw4.

    Foster / Hamer
    Robbo - Mendy - Daniels - Wan-Bis - Peltier
    Lucas M - Salah - Bilva - Richarlison - Hughes
    Firmino - Kun - King

1m ITB + possibility of downgrading Robbo to TAA leaves option of upgrading Firmino to Auba, + King to Arno/Zaha if needed.
Lucas --> Mkhi planned after 2gw.

Nice. That mid price midfield will make or break it. Difficult group to pick from.

Just be wary of Daniels potentially losing his place after a few games.
Very much like it if you're happy with 4.5, 4.0 goalkeepers

Absolutely, but I'm not playing him in GW 4 regardless and then I wildcard.

Ok, so I never start well so feel free to insult me and tell me where I’ve gone wrong... I won’t take offence!

    Patricio (Hamer)
    Mendy TAA Tomkins (Peltier AWB)
    Salah Eriksen BSilva Richarlison (Stephens)
    Aguero Firmino King

    Thanks very much

I don't like TAA and double up on Palace defense, AWB will get just as many points as Tomkins I think. Everything is pretty template, so if you go wrong then everyone else will.

I like it a lot (very similar to mine). My concern was TAA in the first GWs, so opted for Robbo (and subsequently Lucas for Eriksen)

Bring in 4.0 defender. Three (at least) look likely to play
