Legomané’s RMT

Rui Patricio, Hart

Robertson, Davies, Tomkins, Cedric, Wan-Bissaka

Salah, Mahrez, Eriksen, Kenedy, McArthur

Aguero, Arnautovic, King

The 2017-18 season nostalgia picks:

A number of players made their way into my squad before the game opened, last season’s returns fresh in mind..

Andrew Robertson’s end of season form was painful to observe as a Virgil van Dijk owner. At 6.0 he is ready to take up the Marcos Alonso mantle of most desirable defensive option in my opinion.

Mo Salah. Not out of fear. For the joy of FPL points.

With Danny Rose progressing to the World Cup Semi-Finals, Ben Davies was always going to be my next defensive target. The defender served many of us well at the beginning of last season, with double-digit potential and rotation over the opening fixtures less of a concern, he’s a must for me. I am conscious that I held onto Davies too long last season – this year I have earmarked Ben Mendy as my exit strategy, as and when.

Similarly, for Sergio Aguero, an early World Cup exit promoted him to the top of my summer watchlist, the anticipation of Brazil reaching the latter stages and rendering Gabriel Jesus a late starter seemed too good to be true. Aguero was a player I brought in ‘early’ last season at the moment everybody else switched from Morata to Firmino, GW17. I held him all the way through to GW32 so am familiar with the rotational fear that accompanies waiting for a City team sheet. I don’t know if he will be a long term pick, or if I’ll shift to Aubameyang after a few weeks (one of my preferred choices before the fixtures were released), but he’s nailed into my GW1 squad for sure.

Marko Arnautovic is another player I earmarked for inclusion at the end of last season. He’s just a fun player to own.

Kenedy is the final player in this group. A player I was keen on bringing into my squad last season, but for numerous reasons, never got round to, and watched on enviously as he returned a brace two or three gameweeks later. My squad structure includes two 5.0m midfielders and despite poor opening fixtures, he’s a player I’m keen to rotate in and out of my starting XI.

The desirables:

With Manchester City’s outrageous fixture run GWs 2-7, doubling up on attack seems bordering on essential. Having opted for Sergio Aguero, I am keen to leave a third slot open for manoeuvre after one or two weeks, once the returning KDB and co. are back in the mix. Riyad Mahrez is the player I’ve chosen. He’s a player that I’ve felt inclined to ignore over the past two season’s since his well earned price hike following the title winning season. But his FPL returns for Leicester last season, 16pts more than Sane make him almost irresistible in the City lineup. De Bruyne may well end up being the long term hold (or a double up partner) but for now, Mahrez IN!

Christian Eriksen is my third premium midfielder and it is the disarray at Spurs that draws me to him. With Kane potentially making a late return to the first team post-WC, I’m expecting the goal-thirsty Denmark version of Eriksen to step up to the mark.

My final desirable is Josh King. Early drafts included Zaha in this spot, and there are one or two 6.5 forwards I wouldn’t completely rule out – Wood, Mitrovic. King’s end of season form was mildly reminiscent to that of the previous season. Early sound bites from King about being unhappy played out of position last season lead me to believe he is about to recapture something of that form.

The uncertainties:

James Tomkins was a Free-Hit player I owned for Blank-Gameweek-35 last season. A modest 6-point return betrayed his involvement on the day, Livescore kept me informed of his numerous efforts on goal – so close to being a Free Hit hero! However, with Aaron Wan-Biassaka providing the role of 4.0 budget pick, I do wonder if doubling on Palace defence is a little much…

Cedric Soares was another early pick, a player that has always flattered to deceive in FPL. I am concerned about Mark Hughes ability to muster defensive resolve in his back line, not to mention a tummy bug denting his preseason return, so this 4.5 slot is very much up for grabs.

James McArthur was a non-pick last season thanks to the kindly priced Luka Milivojevic. However his goal scoring heroics did not go unnoticed. The arrival of Kouyate (and potentially RLC) could be a concern with the midfield options available to Hodgson fairly numerous. Helder Costa, Ruben Neves and Tom Cairney are all side steps I’m considering.

The Goal keeper pair is something I’ve toyed with a little. Pre-price releases, Dubravka at 4.5 was pencilled in as a potential set and forget, but with the early fixture run, a 5.0 valuation and the arrival and modest pricing of Portugese legend Rui Patricio at Wolves, my head has been well and truly turned!

Tapping in to Sean Dyche’s backline is something that I’ve been conscious of tinkering with since the game opened. With the defensive options receiving a token 5.0m valuation across the board, I see Joe Hart (assuming he hasn’t been brought in as cover for Lindegard!) as a reasonable budget route into the Burnley backline for the short to medium term – a spell that includes a very enticing opening run of fixtures.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

    RMT. 0 ITB

    Foster
    Mendy/VVD/Shaw
    Mane(c)/Sanchez/B.Silva/Richarlison
    Aguero/Firmino/Mitrovic

    Fabi/Odoi/Tomkins/Wan-Bissaka

I've gone for the risk on no Salah. I just think it allows more balance but I have left it so I can get him in easily if he explodes!

Looks solid. I too have opted for Mane over Salah for Liverpool cover and a cheaper option after having Salah all of last season and being put off by his price increase this season.

Bit light in defense IMO. Also I wouldn't personally double up on Fulhams attack. Without Salah you could probs spread the money about better. Front 3 look tasty though!

Not sure about Bellerin for a starting XI. I had him before dropping him for Mendy. KDB very likely to not play first match and likely to skip second one too, would drop him for B Silva if you want a City player.

Yeah I'm not sure about Bellerin either tbh! Probably double up on Uniteds defense once we know who is actually in it. got KDB on bench purely so I don't get priced out of him later on. Feel like the mid/attack is good enough to cover for first few weeks, hopefully...

I’m more of a fan of two big strikers but looks pretty solid. I wonder about the return on players like Jota and Richarlison but they could also be good differentials.

Me too usually! Only reason I've changed my tactics this season is because a lot of midfielders these days effectively play as forwards anyway.

Anybody wanting to give an opinion?

    Ederson - (Stekel)
Robbo - Mendy - Tarkowski (Wan bissaka - Doherty)
Salah - Mane - Hudson Odoi - Richarlison - Cairney
    Aguero - Aubema (Quaner)

Hudson Odoi probably won't get any points and you have him starting? I'd swap out Robbo for A Arnold and use that 1 Mil elsewhere(Hudson>Neves and another 4.5 mil defender) If he doesn't start (unlikely after Clyne's poor pre season) you have Wan Bissaka off the bench

Also not sure who Doherty is but Pelter is a 4 mil starting fullback for Cardiff

Wan Bissaka cant save the day if TAA comes for 10 minute cameo, which he probably will if he somehow gets benched for Clyne

Hi Nikolasmav, thanks for your input but how do you know that Odoi isn't starting considering Hazard being unfit and Odoi been part of every starting line up in pre-season matches? We could have a 4.5 starting midfield that is part of chelsea and looking very sharp in pre-season!

First of all Willian and Hazard weren't back from the world cup for the full pre season until the final pre season match against Lyon, where he didn't start or come off the bench!

    Tosun Agüero Firmino

Really wanting to change Erikson for Sanchez but not sure where I can get the million from,

Not sure why Murphy isn't in more teams, been playing up front for Cardiff and scored almost all their goals in pre season

Jota in for Milivojevic because didn't want to double up on Palace.

Not worth it short term or long term.

Salah ERIKSEN B Silva Ward CAIRNEY

Keeping Patricio under Ederson wouldn't make sense as Ederson is set and forget. So you could go with Ederson and get a 4.0 keeper instead. U have 0.5 spare and get Aguero instead of Auba.

Doubling up on Liverpool defenders seems risky

IMO, the failure of this team will be the choice of 433, which I never think as being a correct system, making the midfield (the most enjoyable part of any team) weak. Added to that is that Mahrez has not yet shown his teeth and Spurs has made no transfers almost acknowledging that they do not desire to be stronger than last year, so the two heavy midfielders are both "gambles" (although, of course, they are highly consistent players throughout).

Nothing wrong with that but you could upgrade Hoedt to Coleman/Bailly

Bailly should start, their other options are Jones, Smalling and Lindelof... Mourinho gave a list of injured players in his press conference today and he was not on there (Valencia and Rojo are out)

Very risky to go with three 4.0m defenders, particular as Mendy and TAA aren't 100% nailed. Nice front 6 but i think it's come at too much of a cost to the defence. I wouldn't start with Hazard personally; downgrade to a city mid maybe.
