Legomané’s RMT

Rui Patricio, Hart

Robertson, Davies, Tomkins, Cedric, Wan-Bissaka

Salah, Mahrez, Eriksen, Kenedy, McArthur

Aguero, Arnautovic, King

The 2017-18 season nostalgia picks:

A number of players made their way into my squad before the game opened, last season’s returns fresh in mind..

Andrew Robertson’s end of season form was painful to observe as a Virgil van Dijk owner. At 6.0 he is ready to take up the Marcos Alonso mantle of most desirable defensive option in my opinion.

Mo Salah. Not out of fear. For the joy of FPL points.

With Danny Rose progressing to the World Cup Semi-Finals, Ben Davies was always going to be my next defensive target. The defender served many of us well at the beginning of last season, with double-digit potential and rotation over the opening fixtures less of a concern, he’s a must for me. I am conscious that I held onto Davies too long last season – this year I have earmarked Ben Mendy as my exit strategy, as and when.

Similarly, for Sergio Aguero, an early World Cup exit promoted him to the top of my summer watchlist, the anticipation of Brazil reaching the latter stages and rendering Gabriel Jesus a late starter seemed too good to be true. Aguero was a player I brought in ‘early’ last season at the moment everybody else switched from Morata to Firmino, GW17. I held him all the way through to GW32 so am familiar with the rotational fear that accompanies waiting for a City team sheet. I don’t know if he will be a long term pick, or if I’ll shift to Aubameyang after a few weeks (one of my preferred choices before the fixtures were released), but he’s nailed into my GW1 squad for sure.

Marko Arnautovic is another player I earmarked for inclusion at the end of last season. He’s just a fun player to own.

Kenedy is the final player in this group. A player I was keen on bringing into my squad last season, but for numerous reasons, never got round to, and watched on enviously as he returned a brace two or three gameweeks later. My squad structure includes two 5.0m midfielders and despite poor opening fixtures, he’s a player I’m keen to rotate in and out of my starting XI.

The desirables:

With Manchester City’s outrageous fixture run GWs 2-7, doubling up on attack seems bordering on essential. Having opted for Sergio Aguero, I am keen to leave a third slot open for manoeuvre after one or two weeks, once the returning KDB and co. are back in the mix. Riyad Mahrez is the player I’ve chosen. He’s a player that I’ve felt inclined to ignore over the past two season’s since his well earned price hike following the title winning season. But his FPL returns for Leicester last season, 16pts more than Sane make him almost irresistible in the City lineup. De Bruyne may well end up being the long term hold (or a double up partner) but for now, Mahrez IN!

Christian Eriksen is my third premium midfielder and it is the disarray at Spurs that draws me to him. With Kane potentially making a late return to the first team post-WC, I’m expecting the goal-thirsty Denmark version of Eriksen to step up to the mark.

My final desirable is Josh King. Early drafts included Zaha in this spot, and there are one or two 6.5 forwards I wouldn’t completely rule out – Wood, Mitrovic. King’s end of season form was mildly reminiscent to that of the previous season. Early sound bites from King about being unhappy played out of position last season lead me to believe he is about to recapture something of that form.

The uncertainties:

James Tomkins was a Free-Hit player I owned for Blank-Gameweek-35 last season. A modest 6-point return betrayed his involvement on the day, Livescore kept me informed of his numerous efforts on goal – so close to being a Free Hit hero! However, with Aaron Wan-Biassaka providing the role of 4.0 budget pick, I do wonder if doubling on Palace defence is a little much…

Cedric Soares was another early pick, a player that has always flattered to deceive in FPL. I am concerned about Mark Hughes ability to muster defensive resolve in his back line, not to mention a tummy bug denting his preseason return, so this 4.5 slot is very much up for grabs.

James McArthur was a non-pick last season thanks to the kindly priced Luka Milivojevic. However his goal scoring heroics did not go unnoticed. The arrival of Kouyate (and potentially RLC) could be a concern with the midfield options available to Hodgson fairly numerous. Helder Costa, Ruben Neves and Tom Cairney are all side steps I’m considering.

The Goal keeper pair is something I’ve toyed with a little. Pre-price releases, Dubravka at 4.5 was pencilled in as a potential set and forget, but with the early fixture run, a 5.0 valuation and the arrival and modest pricing of Portugese legend Rui Patricio at Wolves, my head has been well and truly turned!

Tapping in to Sean Dyche’s backline is something that I’ve been conscious of tinkering with since the game opened. With the defensive options receiving a token 5.0m valuation across the board, I see Joe Hart (assuming he hasn’t been brought in as cover for Lindegard!) as a reasonable budget route into the Burnley backline for the short to medium term – a spell that includes a very enticing opening run of fixtures.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Hello, would really appreciate any suggestions!

    DDG - Stek
    Robbo - Mendy - Boly - AWB - Peltier
    Salah - Mane - Bilva - Richarlison - Stephens
    Aguero - Arnie - King

    Thanks!

I prefer Zaha instead of Arnie due to fixtures and recent signings that have been made.
I'd also downgrade DDG to a 5 or 5.5 - he is to expensive for the points generated, better value elsewhere.

Good points, any other keepers you'd suggest given I've already got 3x Man C and Liv? Would love Heaton if he was fit!

Patricio (playing in a very experienced team, he himself isn't a novice either)
Ryan (most solid and organised defence with minimal changes to the central defence pairing Duffy & Dunk. Brighton restrict shots to outside box, so lots of save points from Ryan - This is what I've got for with Steele/Button has 4.0 to cover him)
Hart (did well in Europa tonight, could well be a cheap investment into Burnley defence. Would be my choice if not for Ryan. Also beware Heaton returning, dunno how that will pan out)

Really helpful, thanks, I think Patricio is the pick of the lot, would be good to have another 4.5 with good fixtures in GW3 and 6 to swap in but not sure when Ryan will be away at the Asia Cup....

Zaha, especially if you already own any Everton assets (Siggy, Rich etc) - could potentially have both depending on 2nd and 3rd striker. Tosun is a good choice regardless

He took a knock awhile back, but nothing been said since. Did see him in Pogba instagram video during training, so took it has a good sign. Should hopefully get some more information in run up to 20:00 kick off with regards to team.

Have almost the same team right now and desperately looking for 0.5 to upgrade Shaw.

Downgrade 2nd GK to 4.0 rather than Cairney to a 4.5?

4.5 goalkeepers seem best value if you get the right one - can't justify the 5.5 or above for the points obtained.

          • 12 Years
          8 years, 25 days ago

Yeah but atm I have two of those because by themselves they all have scary fixtures.

Actually considering going with TAA over Robbo to get that cash. Risky but could pay off.

If you have Mendy, you could also consider downgrading to Stones to free up 5.5 - but try not to let it effect the overall shape of your team.

I'm just thinkin I can switch to Sakho or Tomkins after the first 2 weeks and I also read that Mourinho was unimpressed with Valencia fitness before he got injured...whether there's any truth to that is another matter

I also think they're not going to sell Darm before Christmas now

so Darmian or Shaw then? basically who will last longer before the inevitable big chop?

Not sure but I think he'd prefer Hart to Heaton, although Pope to Hart once he's back but not for a while.

Could easily switch, plenty of decent 4.5 options just have a feeling Hart's going to do well.

Well that's the only fault I can find and you want to take the punt. So could be great in the short term?!

I dont see much talk of martial at united...is he unlikely to play?? Seems quite a tasty differential with sanchez up top.

    Thoughts??

Quite possible...but he could play a big part if he does play! Who can they possibly bring in instead of him!!?? Lukaku rashford, lingard surely wont play?

I see united as matic, fred, mata and then sanchez up top flanked by who??? Only one i can think of is martial...cant even figure who the other winger would be. And if martial doesnt play...thats 2 open wing spots with no players

Very! Eugh! I will wait till a couple hours before kick off...see if anything becomes more apparent with the united team! Dont want to drop jota for martial for him to not even play!!!

So I've rebuilt my draft a thousand times but TDD permitted me to add the final piece to my jigsaw and I think I'm done.

I've commented on hundreds of RMTs but haven't posted mine until now, Please indulge me.

    GK Kepa (Hamer)
DEF Mendy, Robertson, Mina (Boly, Wan-Bis)
MID Salah, B Silva, Jota (Cairney, Neves)
    ATT Aguero, Firmino, Tosun

You're gonna say 'weak midfield' I know, but that's the balance I've gone for. If you don't like it, I have another - this is my top-heavy Plan B

    GK Patricio (Stek)
DEF Tomkins, Wan-Bis, Boly, Bennett, Cook
MID Salah, Mane, B Silva, Mahrez (Kante)
    ATT Aguero, Firmino (Ings)

Which do you prefer, and why?

    🙂
