Will Thomas is among Fantasy Football’s rare polymaths, with the ability to excel in two different formats, Fantasy Premier League and Sky Fantasy Football.

In FPL he has five top 10,000 finishes including overall ranks of 753 and 82, while on Sky he has breached the top 100 on four occasions.

But as Will explains in our latest Meet the Manager video interview, juggling two different formats can have its pitfalls as well as its advantages.

He chats to me about his strategies for success and how to achieve a top finish. We also look back on his 2017/18 campaign, in which hedging his picks across two formats cost him dearly in FPL.

In addition, he reveals how Sky’s patient approach, due to limited transfers, as well as its focus on fixtures with multiple captaincy selections allowed, has helped Will to excel across most of his FPL career.

Will’s views on the current season also prove illuminating, including why managers need to take advantage of an unusually high number of budget gems this term.

He also reveals why he is shunning Harry Kane and is instead pinning his hopes for success on another, far cheaper, striker.

With a current FPL rank of 26,711, he looks to be already on his way to another strong season.

The chat with Will is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

The first Meet the Manager video, featuring Triggerlips can be viewed here, while the second, featuring Philman, can be seen here.

You are naustiating. Played it early last year, navigated the blanks fine. Had a great free hit of I think 88 points,

have triple City, triple Pool, no Haz or Kane, sometimes the stars align and there are many ways to play this game.

Yes, there is. But when you invest that much in a player, you want high chances of clean sheets for a period of time, or regular attacking threat. Smalling/United offer neither atm.

I feel a lot of people think of goals only when it comes to picking their front line. Could the forwards' assists go a bit under the radar?

Considering forwards get just one point more for a goal(4) than an assist(3) - shouldn't we talk more about their assist potential?

For example, Mitrovic seems to be a no brainer on here having created only three chances all season - while cheaper or same price options are heavily involved in scoring, but also setting up the goals (for example Wilson, Jimenez and Arnautovic).

The more expensive options are also interesting. Kane managed only two assists last season, while Aguero has five to his name already and Lacazette four.

P.S. I'm not saying Mitro and Kane are bad options.

      3. Holmes

not really, they could be good and explosive for certain period of time but if and when their accuracy drops below average, they will struggle to get decent score. On the other hand, forwards who provide assists keeps ticking with few points even during their bad spell.

Nah, I'm just saying that if I want to pick a forward for long term, players with assist+goal potential would be my choice

    2. Carlton_Goal
      • 10 Years

That is true assists are important as well but if you look at the difference between Mitro and Arnie for example, Mitro has a lot more shots because everyone is creating the chances for him where as Arnie creates more but shoots less so I don't think there is too much difference in it because Mitro will probably score more but Arnie will make that up in assists

Lets just get real right now, Arnautovic is a far better player and has scored a bunch of goals this calender year. If and when he gets more assists than Mitro it will be because hes a better player and plays for a better team with better players around him. Mitrovic is literally the only player that can score for Fulham, which coincidentally is what makes him a good fantasy option.

                    How old are you?

You go trolling around on this site looking to insult and ridicule peoples thoughts and opinions. If you have any desire for anyone to take you seriously or listen to what you have say then you need to work on your character. No one should ever expect everyone to agree with them but you can disagree with respect and a bit of class!

Listening to other peoples points of view and opinions regardless of their validity without insulting them or belittling them is a sign of respect and decency and people in turn will listen to what you have to say! Someone who can listen to others and change their own way of thinking and not be entrenched in their own views is a person who is respected by others and someone people will take seriously and value their opinions going forward!

You clearly want to be heard on this platform other wise you wouldn't spend so much time on here commenting so why not try and knock off with all the childish behaviour and start rebuilding your credibility. Maybe then people will respect you and listen to what you have to say as i am assuming you believe you are a good player who can offer genuine advice and help. Your last few seasons have been quite successful but no one will listen to you if you continue to conduct yourself in the way you do.

I am assuming i will get some sarcastic response but do everyone a favour and develop some humility!!!!

I have made those conclusions based on what YOU post on this platform as that is all i can do as i already stated i don't know you as a person and i can only form any conclusions by what you post! I wasn't getting involved in your disagreement with another user i was making reference to the way you repeatedly conduct yourself on this site overall and not specifically in this incident.

I never said humanity mate. As far as being a generation snowflake i was born in the 80's and it is in fact your juvenile behaviour that made me ask your age? Its quite ironic you made reference to that as it is evident that it is you who is too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own!

like i said earlier you clearly have something about you as a FPL player but you need to develop some humility! Maybe then you could be respected in the FPL community!

Like i said, no interest in respect as i wouldn't want it from 99% of the users here who can't form an argument or make a decision themselves 🙂 just like that squirt above.

end results is the same but as the season goes on maybe one would be easier to hold onto, i dont know how each scenario 'feels' at the time

Difference is Firmino played in a team that scored almost 30 goals more, thus more potential for assists. Vardy is also the focal point at Leicester and more likely to get bonus points when scoring.

theres lots of differences but all we care about is points.

a striker can only score 11 goals a season but still be just as good an option as a striker who scores 20 because of assists.

I don't think creativity is ignored, but it is rightly less of a factor. It's not just the 1 less point, it's the lower bps attained too.

The trouble with highly creative forwards is it usually means there is a better option or 2 from the same team

This is worthy of a HT but doubt it can become one due to the heated comments

It was not at the forefront of my mind that an assist for a forward is just one point less...could be under the radar for many

This is a great comment and your right a lot of people tend to look at goals when it comes to picking strikers and that's expected but assists for strikers should be taken into consideration way more. Aguero has been gold for this reason and it has helped to make him such a consistent player even when he doesn't score. I think the big difference this year is team structure which is limiting peoples capacity to have 3 decent forwards. I would love to have lacazette as he is keeping points ticking over but to have him as a third striker i would have to make 3-4 transfers and take money out of defense which is the way a lot of people have went this year and very successfully. Jimenez is a brilliant asset at his price and although wilson isn't scoring he is still keeping points ticking over.

Quite embarrassing looking over some of the responses to this comment. Its a very good point and its made me really think about who i will be getting in as a third striker and not being blinded by simply looking at goals scored which is easily done. Thank you

VVD > TAA a waste? I've got 2FT and might roll one. I was keen on getting Haz but might reassess after the int break

    Ryan
    VVD Mendy Doherty Alonso
    Salah Bilva Fraser
    Aguero Firmino Mitro
    (Fab AWB Kante Cairney)

    Other options I'm considering are:

    Firmino > Arnie
    Bilva > Maddo

    1. Ajax Hamsterdam
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 4 months ago

dont think it s a waste as you have 2 ft and it could free up money. however i also have selected vvd and i i think it will pay off as I have the feeling rotation will creep up in the liverpool back 4 and vvd should be safe. silva to maddison seems like a good transfer especially with leicester favourable run of fixtures.

    2. Carlton_Goal

Not a waste, frees up some cash while having similar points potential. Wouldn't get rid of Firmino with the upcoming fixtures. Although Bilva to Maddison looks like a good move right now

No better feeling than the flexibility of 2FT in an international break. So for that reason I’ll hold and play the following side. Obviously Kane a worry.

    Foster
    Alonso, Robbo, AWB
    Salah, Hazard(c), Richarlison, Fraser
    Aguero, Arnie, Mitrovic

    Bench: Fabianski, Doherty, Billing, Daniels

Still unsure of which 2 from Robbo, AWB and Doherty but likely leave as is.
