Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) are thought to be the leading candidates for the Gameweek 9 captaincy.

They face Burnley and Huddersfield respectively, two rather favourable fixtures.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll either at the bottom of this article or on the side-bar of our home page.

The Manchester City man may have the advantage over Salah given that the Egyptian picked up a muscle injury over the international break.

The current thinking is that Salah’s knock is not too serious although Fantasy Premier League managers will still want to hear from Jurgen Klopp before making a final decision.

Meanwhile, Aguero was not involved over the international break at all, for the second time this season. Another rest for the Argentinian, after an ongoing injury problem, has some Fantasy managers hoping that manager Pep Guardiola won’t manage his minutes so often anymore.

Anyone still worried Aguero’s game-time may still consider one of his attacking colleagues in either Raheem Sterling (£11.1m), David Silva (£8.5m) or even Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) if Guardiola passes him fit. Man City does look a source of plenty of options this week as no team has allowed more shots on goal this season than Burnley.

Liverpool’s trip to Huddersfield still holds some promise though, so Sadio Mané (£9.9m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) may also receive some attention in the poll, especially if Salah loses the fitness race.

Eden Hazard (£11.3m) faces a tougher fixture as Manchester United come to Stamford Bridge, but the Chelsea man may still get a look-in for the captaincy.

Only four teams have conceded more goals than the Red Devils in the last four Gameweeks, and they have been breached the same number of times as typically leaky Bournemouth and Huddersfield during that time.

Furthermore, Hazard still has just one blank in 2018/19 even managing to score against the transformed Liverpool defence in Gameweek 7.

Top differentials may still include Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) who increased his goal involvement tally for the season to eight in Gameweek 8. He and his Arsenal colleagues are at home against Leicester, a side they scored four goals past in last year’s corresponding fixture.

Richarlison (£6.8m) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) may also receive outside considerations as Everton are in-form and host a struggling Crystal Palace side in Gameweek 9.

If Jose can devise a plan to stop Hazard then Chelsea will find it difficult to score. West Ham did a good job preventing Chelsea from scoring although Hazard should have still scored

      Nope.

This week there are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes.

Will Kun get 90 mins. Will Salah feature at all. Will Man U park the bus in the right direction? Maybe the safe money is on Arsenal routing Leicester who were pretty meek at home to Everton last week. Unexpectedly so. Although no Morgan to attack will benefit the foxes as they're forced to look for a better center back pairing. Bernard took full advantage of him and Chillwell.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

What are your thoughts on the captaincy this week? Are you looking somewhere other than Aguero, Salah, and Hazard? Is this a good week for a differential?

If you are going for one of the three mentioned above, why have you picked the one you have? Which differential is tempting you, and why?

      Hazard currently.
75% goal involvement when starting. Scores '10 point' goals.

Logical pick is Aguero with the injury doubt to Salah.

But I really do fancy Hazard this week. Without Ander Herrera, they're gonna have an extremely hard time containing Hazard. I think conceding a penalty from their bungling defenders is more likely than not and he could easily just put them to the sword.

The one drawback, is that Mourinho is tactically very sound against the top sides and he will have a plan to stop Chelsea. The question is, do the players care enough to try. If they don't, MUN could lose like 4-0 and everything falls apart.

This. Think I might go Hazard as I think Utd are simply unable to defend these days. Just 1 CS, shipped 14 goals with easy peasy fixtures. Mourinho will try to set his bus up, but it have been on the scrap yard for now at least.

Aguero EO will be off the charts

I'm selling Kane to get him, just can't accept having no city this GW
The 2 weeks rest gives reassurance that Kun will start, as for 60 minutes or not, nobody knows really, but he can do a lot in 60 minutes, and I have a feeling City will get a penalty

      Aguero -
Man City most attacking team on most measures. Aguero top for goal attempts total and in the box (inc for last four games of ~60 mins). Two week rest and Jesus not favoured at all (Pep gave Mahrez the penalty). Even better at home.
Burnley worst for goal attempts conceded, near worst for attempts in the box. Even worse away.

Aguero for me; one look at Burnley's defensive stats tells the whole story. Even if he only gets an hour again, he's likely to do some damage and I'm happy with consistent captain returns.

I don't have Salah and don't feel comfortable captaining Mané, so Liverpool are off the table.

As for Hazard, I'm a United fan so to be blunt, I don't want to captain a player against my own team!

Would be careful to read too much into Burnley's stats. First, they have improved a lot after a dreadful start when still in EL. Second, we know they concede a lot of shots, but few goals and have a laugh at xG stats.

Stuck it straight on Aguero after the last gameweek and doubt I will move it off him. City are an absolute beast at home, Burnley haven't been in the best of form, seems a no-brainer!

Sterling would be an option if I owned him... Salah if he's fit should do well also.

In terms of a differential perhaps richarlison? Or maybe Lacazette as he seems in great form at the moment.

Kun,is the only Captain for me, this Gameweek.

If he was still nursing an injury, Pep would have kept him at home, to receive treatment.

If the newspaper reports are true, Kun is currently in Los Angeles.

Jesus has been roaming the globe, and playing for Brazil.

Salah can't be trusted to play, as we don't know how bad the injury is.

Hazard will be facing Jose's parked bus.

As for differentials, you are backing against 50% Kun ownership, of whom most will be entrusting him with the armband.

Good luck, whatever choice you make.

Sterling would be a great differential captaincy pick given his form and importance to the City attacking play in the final third.

Other options could be Lacazette against a Leicester team that have been poor in defence in recent games.

Maybe Kane in a London derby isn't a bad shout either.

Currently on Lacazette and considering Hazard, but if I buy Sterling or Mané, I will likely give the armband to one of them. Sterling, especially, gets my juices flowing, because I expect him to play more minutes than Kun with about as much goal threat per minute, sometimes more.

This depends on updates later in the week, but if Salah is out i think i´ll do a risky -8 to get Hazard, Mané and Firmino. One of them will be captain in that scenario, Hazard is tempting but i´m trying to analyze the two Liverpool options with Shaqiri and Keita presumably making them look a little bit different. Could it be that Firmino will benefit as he will not need to be not only the creative one (Keita and Shaq provides more creativity) thus he might get into better positions, points-wise? Similarily, how would it affect Mané? Milner out means pen probably, and he could be the one to replicate salah´s positioning as the further forward. Bonus points are important and in that respect i think Firmino/hazard egdes it, but Manés ceiling is perhaps a bit higher than Firmino´s, Hazard home is a strong candidate, but as it looks now, if i were to made them changes, i think Firmino (c). If Salah fit then there is no contender for the capatin spot-)

      Kane (C)

      -Plays 90 min
      - Penalties
      -Great record vs WHM

I belive Burnley wont conceed more than 2 goals, even at ethiad.. and scared of Agureo's gametime (but not enough to sell him tho)

Salah's injury (unless he's declared 100% by Klopp) means that Aguero's EO is going to be huge - easy decision.

Salah if we have good news regarding injury - Huddersfield being poor defensively at home or away. Salah is not worth at 12.8 if you do not captain him, so if you believe in him enough to have him in your team, he should be captain. If not, captain Mané looks attractive too.

If I had Aguero I would captain him over Mané.

Hazard is tempting because of form and MU not being good defensively right now. However, the come back MU had to do against Newcastle may be a key game for MU, and we could see a better MU going forward.

Should I hold or plot to bring in Salah and Sterling, upgrade Kane to Arnie, drop Mane, get rid of Doherty as I was chasing points, and upgrade Hart?

I have a feeling I can come up with an exact team of big hitters and differentials who'll score well this week, but this is not that team:

    Hart, Hamer
    Alonso, TAA, Doherty, Wan-B, 3.9
    Hazard, Mane, Rich, Fraser, 4.3

Suprised I have yet to see one back 5 team in all the RMWCT’s.

If ever there was a time/year for it - it’s now, especially with AWB’s horrific fixture list and Doherty’s emergence.

Robbo, Alonso, Mendy, TAA, Doherty is a very playable back 5 - those 5 should keep pace with and even outscore most mids/fwds up to 7.0/8.0

      Team structure.

This ruins your team structure quite badly. I think 4 at the back is fine, 5 is too much since you have to then bench a bunch of mids and fwds.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 16 Years

I’m not sure, you can easily have that back 5 plus a big attacking 4 of Haz, Kun, Salah, Richarlison - then play one/bench 2 of Ings, Jiminez, Fraser - that’s a bloody strong bench.

It's not a myth. It's one of the most important skills a fantasy manager has. Listen to the Meet the Manager casts. They all recognize the importance to have a balanced team structure.

It's not just about picking the best players, it's about having flexibility to change your strategy if and when things go to hell.

Two transfers to get them in, two transfers to get them out, two transfers to get them back in again after they haul - before you know it you’re destroyed with hits
