In the Gameweek of ‘no-shows’, impressively I managed six zero-pointers across my squad of fifteen.

With Marcos Alonso (£7.0m) and captain Mohamed Salah (£13m) the only players to score more than two points, my rank plummeted from 194k to 289k. Ouch!

Not surprisingly, Callum Wilson (£6.6m) continued the trolling…

But, there is no point dwelling on bad Gameweeks, the key is to remain patient, avoid making knee-jerk transfers despite the temptation to do so and put a plan together to bounce back.

Isaac the key to Success?

Watford’s £4.5m striker Isaac Success is an intriguing option. A goal against Huddersfield in his second consecutive start has caught the attention of FPL managers.

With so much value in defence this season, Success can facilitate a switch in formation.

This is something I’m looking at possibly doing this week, downgrading the misfiring Danny Ings (£5.6m) and investing in the Man City defence in a move to 4-4-2.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) vs Aymeric Laporte (£5.8m)

A City defender/goalkeeper is a must, given their run of six consecutive clean sheets. They’ve conceded just three league goals in the opening ten matches with Jon Stankovic (£3.9m), Willy Boly (£4.6m) and DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m) the only players to have beaten Ederson (£5.8m).

Mendy is the FPL favourite this season but Laporte offers a viable alternative. He’s played every minute, racking up seven clean sheets. Pep Guardiola labelled him the best left-footed centre-back in the world recently, which bodes well for his security of starts for us Fantasy managers.

As well as his clean sheets, Laporte is a goal threat, scoring against Wolves in Gameweek 3 and in the 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

With six assists in seven matches, Mendy is hard to ignore. There is always the worry with him though that he will do something to upset Pep and be banished from the first team setup.

There’s no doubt he’s the more exciting FPL pick, but for those who are strapped for cash, Laporte is your man.

There’s a case to be made for doubling up on both Mendy and Laporte or pairing one of them with Ederson.

Transfer headache

One route I could go this week is Ings to Success and Ryan Bennett (£4.2m) to Laporte for free, which would set me up with four premium defenders for Gameweek 11 (Alonso, Robertson, Trippier and Laporte).

A switch from Kieran Trippier (£6.3m) to Matt Doherty (£4.9m) would then be on the cards for Gameweek 13.

Anthony Knockaert (£5.5m) is a problem though. An alternative to the above moves would be Bennett to Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) and Knockaert to Ross Barkley (£5.8m).

Barkley is worth a punt. He’s got the form and the fixtures. Chelsea have three favourable home ties in their next four (Crystal Palace, Everton and Fulham).

He was rested for the midweek Carabao Cup tie which should see him retain his place in the starting XI for the Palace game on Sunday. His price is what is most appealing, playing an attacking role in a high scoring team. If it doesn’t work out, it’s not the end of the world given his price tag.

Good luck to all in Gameweek 11.

No this week. Just do kamara to success then sort success out in a week or two part of a hit. I would keep mane in advance of Fulham H

Or could do mane to Mahrez then a swicheroo next week

People with a West Ham defender, who are you getting in goal for the foreseeable future? I'm looking at getting Balbuena in this gw but I am probably going to need a keeper transfer in gw15 and Fab is the standout option. Thoughts?

Looking to revamp my backline which is currently: (1 FT / 0.3 ITB)

    Ederson - Hamer
    Alonso - Mendy - TAA - WB - Bennet

What should be the main priority?

    A) Ship TAA for Lovren
    B) New 4th defender with better fixtures

    Cheers!

Depends on the game Trent will play lower teams at home, pace at centre forward then you need Gomez, good in the air and you need Lovren

They will all get gametime but none as much as Robo I think

Never been so confused as of what to do with my two FT hence all the options

    Hamer
    Alonso Trippier Doherty
    Salah Hazard Rich Maddi
    Aguero Firmino Jimenez

    Subs: Hennesey AWB Obiang Peltier

    0.2 ITB

    A) Firmino + AWB -> Arnie + Mendy
    B) Salah + Jimenez —> Mane + Arnie (money itb to upgrade Hennesey to a premium or AWB to TAA)
    C) Salah + AWB + Hennesey —> Mane + Mendy + Kepa -4 (Kepa transfer could wait)
    D) Hennesey + AWB —> 4.5 GK + Zabaleta
    E) Your suggestion

    Any input?

    1. Saka Punch
      • 7 Years

      D) with Balbuena as he's better value
or E) Hennessey to Fabianski, Firmino to Arnie

Trippier could get decent points this week so not a priority, but at some point change him to Mendy

Chelsea has the fixtures in the short term so Alonso should have the dual threat of clean sheet / attacking returns over Luiz. Mahrez is the man in form in Man City midfield but he is destined to play 2 out of every 3 or 4 games. So short term I think A nets you more points but KDB in the long term is a set and forget in your lineup. I tend to think long-term. My 2 cents.

Crazy to downgrade one of Mendy or Alonso to Laporte or Rudiger, respectively to get money ITB for future moves? Will use the money to upgrade mid (switching formation from 442 to 352)

Currently running RAM - Doh - AWB in defence and Haz - Salah - Rich - Maddison - 4.5 in mid

        Aguero - Mitro - Kamara

need the 0.1ITB to do Mitro to Arnie next week. A slight downgrade in defense gives me option to turn hojberg to Barkley and Kamara to Success, but not sure if worth it

I'm going to side step Arny and monitor with a view to bring him on board after the City match in 3 GW's. Still plenty of nice fixtures to take advantage of then should he prove his fitness. I can't chance bringing in a player who is possibly struggling with an underlying issue at this busy part of the season, when rotation is rife and transfers precious. I'd rather hold Mitro and bench him v Pool if necessary. If there is a mass exodus, Mitro could turn into a nice differential for the Southampton match week after.

          I meant this.
Leicester manager Claude Puel says his players could go to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha's funeral - which will start on Saturday in Bangkok and could go on for several days. Puel said: "I want to give players the opportunity to go if they want to but I don't know about the logistics. "But the players want to go and support Vichai's family, his wife and Top (his son)."

Anyone got some news on Ricardo Pereira? Will he start or has he lost his place to Chilwell?

      They play on opposite flanks

Pereira has recently lost his place to Amartey but Amartey has broken his ankle is out for a couple of months at least so pereira should be back at RB/RWB

He’s been out of the picture for some time I don’t see him starting ahead of Pereira personally

I’ve just bought Pereira in too so I’m kind of hoping he does start

    Wilson to Arnie for free?
It means I do not have funds for sterling to Salah next week.

I think Burnley I going to be tough opposition for West Ham who have injury problems - I'm not sure Arnie is the gold mine many seem to assume

Burnley have lost two on the bounce to top teams - they are going to see this as a game to get something out of

West ham haven't been free flow scoring either

Huddlesfield at home aren't an walk over either and then it's City

Might be worth waiting for West ham assets

I agree with you 100% and I do think burnley will score

They did well v west ham last season too both fixtures I believe

As a Fabianski owner I completely agree that Burnley will score. Probably in injury time.

Amazingly lucky in the game at West Ham who hit the woodwork like 5 times. At the end of the day, it’s anyones guess!

Seem to remember Arnie having a field day at Huddersfield last year after I sold him that week.

Burnley are not the team of last year so can see a few goals.

My only concern is Arnies dodgy knee

    Opinions on this team?
(Is a first draft, has been a few years out...)

    Ryan (Hamer)

Alonso - Laporte - Chillwell (Morrison, J Richards)

    Salah - Hazard - Martial - Deulofeu - Stephens

    Augero - Arnautovic - Success

Been a very, very long time out of the game as you can probably tell!

Morrison and JRichards the only two weaknesses imo. Get Balbuena and Bennet, they rotate beautifully.

And this isn't your first draft coz I commented on a team you posted a few days ago and your team was quite different then. 😀

Poor GW last week, mostly due to blanks from usual starters. Anything I should do with the 1 FT? 0.9 ITB

    Ederson
    Trip Robbo Laporte Alonso
    Mané Richarlison Haz
    Aguero King Arnie

    Subs: Patricio, AWB, Hughes, Stephens

Save. Though would soon downgrade trip. Build up funds to get salah. I think salah is on verge of exploding 17/18 style regularly

Barkley's output will be limited once Hazard is back I think and Maddison has insanely good fixtures.

1 FT, 1.4m ITB. Any thoughts?

Thinking of saving and getting Salah in next week as a 2 part move. Tempted by Hamer > Fab though (covers Pats poor fixtures really well till Christmas).

    Pat (Hamer)
    Alonso, Robbo, Mendy (Doherty, AWB)
    Hazard, Mane, Bilva, Richa, Fraser
    Aguero, Arnie (Kamara)

I have 2 FT and 0.6 in the bank but no idea what transfer to make.

    Alisson
    Mendy robbo Alonso
    Hazard rich Madison preyra
    Aguero firmino Mitrovich
    Bench: Doherty Bennet Hojberg

I was thinking to do rich + firmino to mane + arnie but mane 's price went up and now I'm 0.1M short
    1. I could possibly switch alonso to rudiger but not sure if this is the right gw
    2. Alisson to Ryan?
    3. Something else?

    Any help is appreciated.

Rate my team on a scale from Ali Dia to Lionel Messi:

    Patricio
    Alonso-Mendy-Dunk
    Salah-Hazard-Rich-Maddison-Barkley
    Aguero-Arnie

    Subs Hamer-Success-AWB-Bennett

lol I reckon Jack Rodwell would run him close for pure consistency of bad performances. The bit about that story that never seems to come up is Ali Dia was 31 when he hoodwinked Souness into thinking he was George Weah's cousin. Even if he was Weah's cousin If you haven't made it at that age, with that family connection you are unlikely to be very good.

Lost what to do with my team. I have 2 FT. Please help. 0.4 ITB

    Fabianski, Patricio,

    Doherty, Tripper, TAA, AWB, Bednarek,

    Rich, Salah, Hazard, Fraser, Maddison,

    Aguero, Vardy, Kamara

Feel like TAA, Rich need to go (poss Trippier). Unsure about Maddison & Vardy for obvious reasons.
Players on the radar Mendy, Mahrez, Willian/Barkley, Arnie
Also have a wildcard, but feels silly to use when I have 2 FT
