Wolves and Manchester United have both named largely unsurprising line-ups for the first Monday night clash of the 2019/20 season.

As expected, Nuno Espirito Santo has made no changes from last week, retaining a 3-5-2 shape for his key men.

The majority of them were not involved when Pyunik were seen off 4-0 at Molineux on Thursday, so Raúl Jiménez (£7.5m) and Diogo Jota (£6.5m) have both had seven days since their last start.

Popular budget midfielder Leander Dendoncker (£4.5m) continues to be involved in the heart of Wolves’ engine room, alongside Rúben Neves (£5.5m) and Joao Moutinho (£5.5m).

Matt Doherty (£6.0m) holds onto his right wing-back berth following injury in pre-season, with Jonny (£5.5m) on the opposite flank.

While Jota and Jiménez boast 19.3% and 11.4% ownership each, the wider Fantasy world does appear to be backing a Manchester United clean sheet.

That’s according to the ownership anyway, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.5m) the most popular player in the Monday evening meeting.

He currently sits in 36.1% of teams while David de Gea (£5.6m) is owned by 20.4% and Harry Maguire (£5.5m) by 19.2%.

The Gameweek 2 captaincy debate also concludes with Marcus Rashford (£8.6m) getting the final say.

He comes into Gameweek 2 skippered by over 220,000 managers, making him the most fashionable captain at Molineux today.

Meanwhile, Daniel James (£6.0m) comes in for his firstever start for Manchester United in the Premier League.

“He has made an impact since day one. In pre-season, in training and he came on last week to get a goal. We’re going to chop and change at times. Andreas did well last week but today Daniel James is the right choice. Dan is Dan. He’ll give us the X factor of his pace, his attributes also off the ball will be important as he’s incredibly hard-working.” – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Wolves XI: Patrício; Boly, Coady, Bennett; Jonny, Neves, Moutinho, Dendoncker, Doherty; D Jota, Jiménez.

Man United XI: De Gea; Shaw, Maguire, Lindelöf, Wan-Bissaka; McTominay, Pogba; Rashford, Lingard, D James; Martial.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 2

These offside VAR decisions are ridiculous. They clearly dont have the technology to make a correct decision. This time they hardly had a camera view to see the "offside" player at all, and the resolution is absolute trash. The camera isnt positioned in a way to make it clear for a human eye. If they want video refereeing for offsides they need technology like they use in 100m dash or cycling sprints to see clearly whos ahead of who.

    1. diesel001
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 20 days ago

That's why they draw straight lines, so the camera angle doesn't matter

      1. Brosstan
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 20 days ago

It doesnt matter that the lines are straight when the line is on the ground and players have other body parts above ground AND theres just some dude looking at grainy pictures deciding where the line goes. The intent is good, the technology is abysmal.

Its also up to the discretion of the VAR people exactly when the offside line is set (when the ball is hit) which is very arbitrary and will decide if a player is a millimeter above or below the line.

        1. diesel001
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 20 days ago

It does matter. The straight lines allow you to access the vertical plane so that you can see where everything is in relation to the ball / defender.

    3. TOBY1
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 20 days ago

They'd need cameras all the way down the pitch... The reason the 100m sprint camera works is because it's right on the line but that line is moving all the time.. apparently its calibrated for the angle but the human error part is the human selecting the point on the man himself. It could easily be done by pixel and automated from the different colour to the pitch but no, a human takes a mouse and clicks where he thinks it is...

    4. Pedersen
      • 7 Years
      7 years, 20 days ago

What? you dont understand the offside rule mate 🙂
Playing ball to a player behind you (backwards) can never be offside, regardless of opponent team position 🙂

Thats why they didnt check for the ManU player, they just checked the ball was played backwards and it was

      They are making it up.

You can see when they project the should line down, they're just guessing in an amorphous blob of pixels (squinting whilst doing so probably) where the line should be drawn.

The pictures sent to broadcasters are trash.

          Problems:

          - there's quite often motion blur on the frame they're analysing...subjectivity there

          - the framerate comes into it too. When Trossard's first goal was ruled out on the weekend, they were flicking back and forth between two frames cos the moment the ball was played didn't occur exactly when the frame was captured.

If they want to do it properly, they need high-rate sensors running at 100s measurements per second, probably aided by a sensor in the ball the detect when it's kicked and reflective patches on shoulders/boots or something to pinpoint exact locations in 3D space.

But that's just my opinion 🙂

Resolution looked fine on my TV and the VAR officials are surely getting their feed in 4k+ with a high frame rate.

The perspective lines work pretty well for me and it looks easy to make the right call using them.
