Frisking the Fixtures

Who has the best and worst upcoming FPL fixtures?

Our frisk of the fixtures sees us assess the Premier League clubs with the strongest and weakest runs of league matches over the coming weeks – in theory, at least.

We’ll extend our usual six-Gameweek lookahead and instead cast our eyes a little further until the end of the season, given that some managers will be looking at using their Wildcard in Gameweek 30 or 31.

THE STRONG

LIVERPOOL

Next nine: ars | AVL | lee | NEW | mun | SOU | wba| bur | CRY

Hints of a return to form for Liverpool could have come at just the right time for Fantasy managers.

Eight out of the next 10 fixtures for the Reds look like games they really should be winning, and you wouldn’t bet against them against Arsenal and Manchester United either.

Jurgen Klopp’s side sit top of our Season Ticker from now until the end of the season, with their last four matches against Southampton, West Brom, Burnley and Crystal Palace looking particularly appealing.

After a trip to the Emirates, they also have a tidy mini-run against Aston Villa, Leeds and Newcastle.

With the majority of teams in their 10-game run now “on a British beach” with only pride left to play for, the Reds could put together a serious winning run before the end of the campaign.

But their form before the win over Wolves, including four straight home defeats, has left the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community undecided on whether to back them or not.

One player garnering interest is Diogo Jota (£6.7m), who has taken a place in Liverpool’s front three since his return from injury and scored against former club Wolves in Gameweek 28.

Despite Mohamed Salah’s (£12.4m) recent profligacy, Fantasy managers who have held on to the Egyptian can take some comfort in his recent stats.

Salah is second for shots in the box and receiving big chances in his last six outings and scored in the Champions League against Red Bull Leipzig.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.3m) brought in all three bonus points in his last game against Wolves and has created the second-highest amount of chances for defenders in the last six matches.

One factor counting against Liverpool is the Champions League. With Klopp admitting it would be “almost impossible” that his side would qualify for the tournament next year through league position, expect them to go all out to win the competition itself this year.

This could lead to players being rotated and rested on the domestic front, something we did see a bit of at the back-end of their run to the Champions League final in 2017/18, when there was little to play for in the top flight.

WOLVES

Next nine: WHU | ful | SHU | BUR | wba | BHA | tot | eve | MUN

Wolves soon enter a run of five fixtures as good as you are likely to see in FPL terms.

After a tricky tie at home against West Ham, they then face five of the bottom six all in a row.

Games against Sheffield United and West Brom who are all but relegated bookend an appealing home tie against Burnley.

Matches against Fulham and Brighton could prove to be much trickier, with the Cottagers battling for Premier League survival.

Wolves’ results over this period will depend much on their own desire.

Safe from trouble but too far off to threaten the European spots, we have often seen teams go off the boil with nothing to play for.

But with key players returning to the team and spots in the Portuguese European Championship squad up for grabs, Wolves could put together a solid run of form.

Centre-back Conor Coady (£4.8m) has become an unlikely goal threat with the most big chances of all defenders in the last six matches.

Star striker Raul Jimenez (£8.1m) could even have a part to play this season with Nuno Espirito Santo revealing that special headgear had been made for him.

ARSENAL

Next nine: LIV | shu | FUL | EVE | new | WBA | che | cry | BHA

It looks to be a mixed bag of games for Mikel Arteta’s side, starting off with a home fixture against Liverpool.

But after this match, the Gunners enter a cracking little run, playing Sheffield United, Fulham, Newcastle and West Brom as well as Everton.

Arsenal have demonstrated perfectly in their last two games how they are this season’s Jekyll and Hyde, causing the FPL community to give them a wide berth.

In Gameweek 28 they were dominant in their 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, where the margin of victory could have been far wider.

Then in their next game, they went 3-0 down to West Ham before mounting a superb comeback to claim a draw.

With four goals in his last six matches, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.5m) received backing before the Blank Gameweek 29 fixture, only to go completely missing against the Hammers.

And now that Arsenal’s attentions appear to be firmly focused on Europe, Aubameyang is a rotation risk going forward. He can also be shunted out onto the left wing, where he was anonymous against West Ham.

The performances of Kieran Tierney (£5.3m) since his return from injury have caught the eye and he should start more matches than not, but there aren’t many Gunners who will swerve a benching or two so long as they remain in Europe.

WEST HAM

Next nine: wol | LEI | new | CHE | bur | EVE | bha | wba | SOU

West Ham have the advantage over Arsenal and Liverpool in that the Premier League will be their sole focus for the rest of the season.

With David Moyes’ men blazing towards a European spot, there will be no danger of them letting up before the end of the season.

And the Hammers have some kind fixtures before the end of the campaign, particularly on the road.

Visits to Wolves, Newcastle, Burnley, Brighton and West Brom are games where they will be expecting a win.

An end-of-the-season clash with Southampton also looks like a plum tie.

So the Hammers have the fixtures, and the players in form, to exploit this run.

Aaron Cresswell (£5.9m) is FPL’s highest-scoring defender this season, and has created two assists in his last six matches.

Jesse Lingard (£6.1m) is also in dazzling form since arriving from Manchester United on loan, and has had 11 shots in the box in his last six games.

While the goalscoring touch has evaded Michail Antonio (£6.7m) of late, he is still a key part of the Hammers’ attack, and laid on two assists against Arsenal.

ALSO CONSIDER

Manchester City‘s omission from this list is likely due to them not having a fixture in Gameweek 33.

But before and after that blank, they have games that could really hurt Fantasy managers who do not have any of their assets.

The Citizens are still yet to play Aston Villa, Leeds, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Newcastle.

The spectre of Pep roulette looms over their end-of-season run, but players like Ruben Dias (£6.1m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) have shown they are more likely to play than others.

After matches against both Manchester clubs and Liverpool, the clouds part for Leeds.

Leeds sit top of the Season Ticker from Gameweek 34 until the end of the season, with games against Brighton, Burnley, Southampton and West Brom to come.

Holding onto players like Raphinha (£5.7m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.7m) could be a wise move even during the initial difficult fixtures, with Leeds capable of nicking a goal or two due to their attacking style.

Chelsea assets step up ahead of favourable run of fixtures 3

Chelsea may be deep into the Champions League, but they have the squad capable of putting together a solid run domestically.

The Blues will play West Brom, Brighton, Palace, West Ham and Fulham, before their fixtures take a nasty turn in Gameweek 35 with a trip to the Etihad.

With Thomas Tuchel needing to keep players fresh for multiple competitions, rotation will definitely be a factor for Chelsea.

But players like Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) could see more Premier League game-time, particularly against some of the weaker teams, with the more defensively sound Ben Chilwell (£5.8m) saved for tougther opposition.

Fantasy managers who value fixtures over form and are looking for a short-term punt could go for a Southampton player.

In their next three games, the Saints face Burnley, West Brom and Crystal Palace before a blank in Gameweek 33.

THE WEAK

BRIGHTON

Next nine: mun | EVE | che | shu | LEE | wol | WHU | MCI | ars

Seagulls’ fans will be relieved that their side trounced Newcastle when they see their run-in for the end of the season.

In their next three, they face Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea, who are all gunning for Champions League places.

They will need to pick up points from the following three games against Sheffield United, Leeds and Wolves, as they then face West Ham, Man City and Arsenal to round 2020/21 off.

But Brighton have performed well in fixtures against clubs higher up the table.

They hold impressive wins over Spurs and Liverpool, and were unlucky to only claim a point in a 2-2 draw with West Ham.

And any FPL managers who brought in Brighton assets for last weekend could hold onto them for Blank Gameweek 33, when they face Sheffield United, before getting rid.

CRYSTAL PALACE

Next nine: eve | CHE | sou | lei | MCI | shu | AVL | ARS | liv

Crystal Palace’s combination of poor form and a tough run of games is enough to put off even die-hard Eagles fans from investing in their assets.

Palace sit bottom of the expected goals (xG) table for the last six matches, and second bottom for expected goals conceded (xGC) over the same period.

Southampton and Sheffield United look like winnable games for Roy Hodgson’s men.

But matches against Everton, Chelsea, Leicester, City, Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool could see them plunge down the table.

The return of talisman Wilfried Zaha (£7.1m) to the team should help lift their xG.

But with a bounty of mid-price midfield options, it could be wise to avoid the Eagles for the rest of the season.

WEST BROM

Next nine: che | SOU | lei | avl | WOL | ars | LIV | WHU | lee

Let’s be honest, any fixture right now for West Brom is a tough game.

But any Baggies fans hoping for a reprieval towards the end of the season won’t be getting one, with them playing Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham in a row.

Their final game of the season before dropping down to the Championship will be a trip to Leeds, who beat them 5-0 in the reverse fixture.

Sam Allardyce has failed to work his magic on West Brom, despite their xG and xGC showing signs of improvement in recent games.

And any backers of Mbaye Diagne (£6.0m) swayed by his impressive stats have had no attacking returns to show for their faith.

LEICESTER

Next nine: MCI | whu | WBA | CRY | sou | NEW | mun | che | TOT

It’s the classic ‘form versus fixtures’ argument where Leicester are concerned, with the Foxes playing some cracking football of late.

But for anyone looking to invest in Leicester players, it may be worth waiting until after their games against Manchester City and West Ham.

From Gameweek 32 onwards, they face West Brom, Palace, Southampton and Newcastle in a cracking run before their schedule turns difficult again.

In Kelechi Iheanacho (£5.7m) the Foxes possess one of the most in-form strikers in the league.

The frontman has got on the end of an incredible seven big chances in four games, the most in the league by far, and ties Harry Kane with 15 attempts.

As the FA Cup tie showed against Manchester United, Iheanacho is capable of scoring against the top teams – as are Leicester themselves.

  3. Differential captains

Twitter appears to be filled with talk of the need for ‘differential’ captain picks and that you are ‘never going to win’ and are ‘dull’ if you go with highly favoured high EO captain picks.

    Some thoughts

    1. Most people making these statements appear to be ranked 500k+. It’s easy to go ‘maverick’ when you don’t have a good rank... perhaps the differential captain picks have something to do with it....
    2. Obviously.... obviously... the quickest way to get a huge rank gain is to captain a very low EO player, them get a mega haul AND the high EO template captain picks blank. No one can dispute this but if you get it wrong and the reverse happens the downside is significant
    3. The high EO captain picks are there for a reason - it’s because they have the highest expected points for the gameweek
    4. In my opinion, going differential captain pick every week is going to guarantee you a bad overall rank by the end of the season. It’s like tossing a coin weighted 60:40 head:tails 38 times and you being forced to pick tails each time. Statistically you won’t come out ahead.
    5. Also I’ve seen people say it’s better to use captaincy differentials to gain rank as doesn’t mean you have to get transfers right.... but transfers are a huge part of the game and equally good area to gain an edge.
    6. HOWEVER... I do believe that there are certain weeks in a season (5 to 10 of them) where there are clear big opportunities to go differential captain and make big ground. These need to be very carefully selected and requires skill. In my opinion Lateriser has historically been excellent at this.

TLDR... differential captains carefully selected occasionally = awesome. Differential captains every week = disaster

    Have at it

Answered on the last page, but to add - this year is the first where I have planned ahead with captain picks rather than just go for the best player I already have that week.
Sensible choice does not always hit of course, but having at least one of the obvious choices each week probably accounts for about 1/4 or more of total score.
Differential capatin, unless you're flailing around near the fag end of the season is a no go for me.

I've tried to pick differential captains in most of the last few gameweeks and haven't had a return since GW24.

        GW25 - Ings DGW (3pts)
        GW26 - TC Bruno DGW (6pts)
        GW27 - Antonio (2pts)
        GW28 - Mount 3pts
        GW29 - Dallas 2pts

Now most of those I felt I had reasoning for going with rather than just trying to pick someone different, but just sticking with Kane last week as was originally the plan or Gundo in 27 in a City DGW would have made a decent difference and also made good if not better sense beforehand

          GW20: Bruno (2)
          GW21: Gundogan (3)
          GW22: Cancelo (6)
          GW23: Antonio (2)
          GW24: Gundogan (19)
          GW25 - Raphina (12)
          GW26: TC Kane (8)
          GW27: Gundogan (10)
          GW28: Bruno (3)
          GW29: Lingard (12)

Best captains: Stones, Gundogan (2 times out of 3), Raphina, Lingard
          Worst captains: Bruno (twice), Antonio.
          OK captains: Kane, Cancelo.

The moral appears to be not to captain Bruno!

In the first 18 Gameweeks, Salah was a reasonably steady though unspectacular captain for a time (I captained him 9 times), but most of the rest were miserable failures.

Not sure how many of my captains would count as differentials, but after I stopped captaining Salah most of my later choices were the players that I expected to play and score highest out of the ones in my squad. This was mainly based on form and fixtures, not always taking too much notice of their ownership, price, position or the captain poll.

My rank has improved from 2.28m to 262k since GW16, with only two red arrows during that period and a number of big green ones. Differential captains can be good, but they should be chosen because you think they stand a good chance of outscoring the more popular choices, not just because they're different.

I've always found it quite a good idea to own the highest EO player, but captain a differential - like an actual differential not just a differential captain - someone like Lingard or Trossard would have qualified this week just gone, although I may only be saying that because they scored well. I owned Kane and captained Lacazette fwiw

I think it's fine to be defensive with captaincy and make gains elsewhere which add up. A lot of people who start badly start chasing losses and amplify their failure. They want to come back with one genius move they can boast about, rather than grafting their way through sensible decision-making.

        1. Deulofail

Being 'defensive' is still making decisions using ownership. Perhaps it's less damaging, as the crowd's captain pick will be better on average than a differential you choose for differential's sake. But captaincy is no different from transfers and team selection. It's just about making the decision you think is going to get you the most points.

Mostly it’s good to pick the sensible captain but in other times, the right moments, it’s fun to be differential. It’s good to be different 5-10 weeks during the season as you say, I personally have picked a differential captain about 9/10 times so far this season and I’m at 13k

If you pick the Vanilla captain every single week and follow the herd, is that really that fun? If you never take any risks, what makes the experience a rollercoaster? You can never say to yourself you’ve had extremely extremely good and extremely extremely bad moments if you just do what everyone else is doing. Not that you want to do bad but you get what I mean. Isn’t it better to sometimes think that the reward is better than the risk?

I personally enjoy weeks where I’ve captained a differential and they’ve done well, a lot more than when I’ve captained the Vanilla captain and they’ve done well, cause it’s more satisfying. It’s a game, we’re playing it for personal satisfaction and fun.

It is part skill and huge luck ! You only needed to look at one passage of play in the West Ham v Arsenal game. Initially with Soucek's goal, it looked like a Coufal assist via his cross for an Antonio goal. The next minute it becomes a Soucek goal after the ball had brushed his body and it became an Antonio assist. Fantasy Football luck in a nutshell !

There is some skill but the huge luck element is backed up by Lateriser's position this year (not having a dig at Lateriser as I like his podcasts with Zophar and Big man Backhar). I am sure Lateriser will be back amongst the "elite" next season !

A differential captain pick is cool but I don’t think the logic is as good as most would like to think

For example in a week where most people captain Kane, last week for example, even if you went differential and got a return or 2, you still really needed a Kane blank for it to have ‘paid off’ but then he got a jammy pen and that was that

Forwarding my previous page answer for discussion:

It's not even necessary to go for wacky differentials. Going for top class assets who are underlooked for captaincy due to whatever reason can be a valuable differential in itself. For example Bruno in GW13 when Kane was widely backed, Bruno in GW22 when Salah was hugely backed (both blanked), or Salah himself in GW1 when there was a split between him and Auba.

That’s sort of a ‘halfway house’ in terms of risk and reward isn’t it. It’s certainly the approach I take if going ‘differential’ with captain. The big opportunities which come a few weeks a season is when you can identify a low EO player who has expected points for the week rivalling the high EO captain choice.

Aggressive doesn't mean he was searching for differentials though. I assume he was still trying to get the highest scorers, and willing to make transfers aggressively where necessary to get them. I could be wrong.

EO has to have some weight in the decision process, not necessarily the biggest, but I don't agree it should be disregarded completely. Betting against the best players in the league just for the sake of "going different" is not sensible imo. The opportunities to go against highest EO player arrive in rounds when you target the opposition, which, at least anecdotally, was probably the best way for captaincy, i.e. Trossard last week. My (empirical) approach:

        1. Own two to three best captaincy options for the block of 2-3-4 weeks. If you fail in a single round, at least the damage would be limited if you own as many big hitters as possible.
        2. Target fixtures/opposition, use free transfers to swap the captaincy options, avoid using transfers on other positions in the team, especially defenders. If the captain gets you double the points, isn't the use of transfer the most effective when it's used on captain. Don't be scared to get rid to jump on a better option, even if it's only for a 2 weeks.
        3. Try to align as many as possible in this order: 1. worst opposition if possible, 2. form of the team and player, 3. EO.

That's why I hate blanks. I had to save transfers to get players that play in the blank, which blocked me from Kane - Vardy(c) - Kane two transfer switch. But actually, those moves would have brought me more points than the moves that I've done. The story goes along with my target the opposition spend transfers on captains even if it's for a week thinking.

Have to say I'm a little unsure of how to manage City assets in the run-in. I had Ederson, Dias and Gundo, have moved out Ederson to Mendy (only did it early as Tuchel said he's not travelling for internationals) and that frees up a spot to bring in KDB for Leeds in GW31. But City's schedule after the break looks like this:

        - Leicester after the IB
        - Dortmund 1st CL leg midweek
        - Leeds (Pep said Leeds are "the worst" team to face between two CL matches)
        - Dortmund 2nd CL leg midweek
        - FA Cup semi against Chelsea
        - Probably PL game against Villa midweek
        - League cup final against Spurs

All these 7 games occur within 22 days. With City's squad depth you'd still easily say any team they put out will be strong but there's still got to be a lot of rotation there and while I'm sure Pep won't take it for granted that the league is theirs, out of all of those if you're going to rest your best players it's going to be against Villa, Leeds or Leicester and not Dortmund or in a semi final or final.

The other thing is that once City have wrapped up the title, we're likely to see even more rotation. I feel like Ake and Laporte will be likely to get more gametime than Stones and Dias, and players that are usually rotated more often (Foden, Mahrez, Jesus) will probably feature a lot more regularly. If both City and MU keep winning, then City can win it in GW35 against Chelsea, but between now and then MU face Spurs, Leeds and Liverpool as well as Burnley and Brighton, and I'm not sure I see them beating all of those. If they don't then there could be 4 or 5 games left when City have already won it. Hard enough with Pep's usual rotation but once it gets closer to them having the league done and dusted I'm not sure how much I'll want to have money invested in them.

I sure hope not! I brought him in just when they began conceding again while Emi continued to rack up the points on my bench

Certainly seems that way, I've seen a lot of people complaining about having benching headaches in the next few weeks but with rotation for teams in other comps still I don't think it's a bad problem to have

Here's one die hard Eagle fan who is eying one Palace asset 😉

Just the one week in and out but Zaha in 35 with a potential SHU Southampton DGW could be pure gold.

Will probably be considered by many if they do get DGW 😀

But to get a DGW, they will have to blank first. When will that happen?

Forget the ins and outs of it but think Crellin has theorised that the Palace Southampton fixture from 32 could be put in 35 and that Southampton play Spurs that week.

Depending on how SHU do after the break I’m tempted to simply transfer in a player from whichever team they play and captain them till the end of the season with zaha forming part of that plan.....

If it's any help - personally am already regretting Mount seeing Tuchel's propensity for spinning the old wheel of fortune with his teamsheets Corgzz!

Fixtures are good though so at least he looks good pre-deadline for the next 3-4

Jota may be the real answer though - or Lingard - or even Neto - think they all have as much to offer as the Chelsea mids when you factor rotation in

Not sure on either longterm. Mount possible at the lower price and decent returns. Havertz might be a decent short term punt if you WC soon for example

I have Mount but will be getting rid in a week or two. I'll play him this week because WBA but really I don't think many offensive Chelsea assets are worth it, they don't bang in the goals even when on top in games and rotation makes things even tougher. I've gone with Azpi and Mendy now. If I had to pick anyone I'd actually go with Jorginho since he's on pens and I don't think they go too long without one too often

Well I think Havertz could still be a good option but it's kind of in the same way that Werner "could". Lots of potential and chances but a bit wasteful. I watched the Leeds game and the commentator said at one point something like "what more does Havertz have to do to score?" implying he's just been incredibly unlucky, but really his shot against Everton was going wide from a few yards out, and he should have scored against Leeds but got crowded out a couple of times by just not reacting fast enough when he had chances to shoot. He has been unlucky of course but he's admitted himself (as well as Werner) that the Premier League was far more intense and tough than they could have expected and than the Bundesliga. I had Mount for his haul against Liverpool so I won't complain but I think with Havertz and Ziyech fit now his impact is dwarfed a bit, Havertz drops into the 10 role where a few weeks ago Mount was playing and Ziyech naturally drifts into there too on and off the ball so I think for now (or while both of those are on the pitch with him) he won't have as many chances

The idea is good in principle, but if you get City no shows, you could bench boost maybe even up to two 0es, on top the hit. Just decide on benching Gundo or Lingard, and save BB for a double gameweek.

Man C players were ok for double game weeks as you knew Pep's rotation may give you one game out of 2, but single gw's from now on and a blank in 33, certainly not worth the hassle. De Bruyne also overpriced for reduced returns and Man C were arguably a better team without him as in the year he missed through injury when they won with record points. He has also started rotating defenders resulting in fewer clean sheets.

de bruyne has been delivering good stats and realised them in his last gw.

when they ran away with the league before they were surprisingly consistent with their big players.

Yeah, only holding Stones for now as a City asset, as I feel pep roulette will go mad once the league is mathematically secured as well. Not worth the hassle. Going to access Top 4 and relegation battlers from here on to bring into my team.

Give him time, I suppose, but from what regular watchers of PSG told me it wasn't all that great over there either - horrendous defenses and pure natural talent of Neymar/Mbappe aside.

seems to be approaching it in a logical way. Strengthen the defence, try and find an attacking system and personnel that works.

wouldn't last long if he'd have gone in and done it the other way round.

There was a recent comment from Abrahamovic saying that he was pleased with their manager model. Can't see much changing there. Klopp would be out by now or season's end if he was there to within a certainty!

I think Neville had it right after his appointment saying that he thinks within 18 months we'll have the same situation that Lampard was in, although personally I think it'll be even less than that. He has a habit of butting heads with his superiors as well and it'd be hard for the most patient manager to not do that with Abramovich. I think Tuchel is ironically similar to someone like Pochettino, I don't think they're suited to big teams with endless money and egos but teams that are in a bit of a midway point of being between challenging for honours and just being an average mid-table team, and helping them make those steps to move up the table and find consistency is where they excel. I could be way off though and one or both of those two will prove me wrong but we'll see come summer if Tuchel gets much money to invest or if the splurge last season will mean he mostly has to work with what he has

I think you're way off, no offense. I don't think Tuchel is anything at all like Pochettino. He's much less of a 'philosophy' manager and more of a reactive, change the style of the team to suit the opponent type.

He rotates heavily, he tries lots of different systems and personnel. It's well suited to a big team and a big squad like Chelsea and he's already shown he's a good coach that can drill his players to be disciplined in defense. Attack needs some work, but I think he can get there.

None taken and like I said I could be way off with how I see things going with both of their trajectories. In terms of style I don't see a comparison, I just meant in terms of what type of teams I think they'll get the best out of. Do I think Tuchel will do better than Lampard? Of course, nothing against Lampard but he wasn't exactly a tactician and too often was happy to play far too open a game and just go tit-for-tat. But I still don't think Tuchel will suit exactly what Chelsea need right now (or next season more specifically)

                        What to do with Bale?

                        A) Keep for Newcastle, could be a big haul if 30-70min. Sell on WC in GW31.
                        B) He is finished. Sell sell sell

Sell. I don't think there's any way he starts vs Newcastle not after playing 3 games for Wales and his current standing with Mou.

Slightly dependent for me on whether you also have Son but basically sell sell sell

If no Son and you don't want to make that switch then there's some argument for holding in hope and having a good bench option.

The best argument for holding is maybe to think that 2FTs in 31 is better than making a move in 30 when all the teams are back from IB and everything is slightly up in the air. Team dependent of course.

Same, same ... In the end my hit got me -3 points ffs, I brought in Reguillon and Bale. I am going to sell probably, to Son or Mount/Havertz. If I decide to bench in the end, I might as well go for that cameo vs Newcastle, it will probably end in no show anyway and I have Gundogan or Lingard already on the bench.

I too will get rid, but not this GW. Newcastle is too good a fixture so will take the gamble. Wales play on the Tuesday and Spurs dont play till the Sunday and therefore a 5 day rest. Plus I have Watkins 1st sub on my bench.

With a full playing squad to cover Alonso/Chilwell rotation would you go for:

                        A) Alonso
                        B) Azpi

It's a complete scandal international football is happening.

Travel for European games is bad enough but at least it's with the same group. This is an utter disgrace.

See your point - especially re friendlies

May not have thought this through 100% so feel free to shoot me down. Is it that much worse than EL and CL fixtures? I’m guessing also that during IB the club bubbles will be in practice relaxed with players having more down time.

There I suppose at least you don’t have bubbles - perhaps of different strengths - being mixed.

What to do with Salah and who to Captain?
                            Pope
                            Stones, Dallas, Cresswell
                            Mount, Bruno, Gundo, Lingard
                            Kane, DCL, Bamford

                            (Forster, Salah, Holding, Mitchell)

I am pretty much resolved to use the cash I gain from Salah to invest in a Mitchell > Azpi transfer. But who to replace Salah with...?
                            Do I:
                            A) Salah > Mahrez
                            B) Salah > Rashford
                            C) Salah > another midfielder (suggestions welcome)

Then Captain Kane, Gundo or someone else?

I would keep Salah (looking to bring him back, myself). But if you must sell, probably Son (if fit) or Rashford.

Cheers. Salah not really an option for me though, as I've been making moves to prepare for bringing in a couple of Chelsea defenders, and to strengthen bench to cover for possible squad rotation issues of Stones/Mahrez (if I bring him in). I won't have the cash for this if I don't sell Salah. Plus in my mini league the player chasing me has so many players simialr to me in defence and midfield that I'm trying to distance myself from him with other options.

Kane or Bruno for captaincy for me, Kane is against probably the team playing the worst in the division, while Bruno has 3 goals and 2/3 assists in 2 games against Brighton

Cheers. You're right, Kane could get some points here, even if he form hasn't been great. Bruno another good option - I had been making him Cap for many weeks previously until his form dropped a bit, but definitely worth considering too.

Hadn't realised until just now that you could delete teams from the ticker. If there are only 16 teams and you show the top and bottom 10 you will inevitably get duplication.

Season end punt you can say. If it works, great. If it doesnt, we move on! 😛

At least on paper, fixtures and their quality is decent, whether it finally clicks or not is obviously an issue 😀

Bale to one week punt(WC31). Have 14.4m: Salah, Bruno, Jota or bench him and get Alonso?

                              Martinez (Johnstone)
                              Digne Dias Dallas (Coufal, Dunk)
                              Son Rahpinha Lindgard Bale (Grealish)
                              Bamford Kane DCL

Mahrez or Moura can work but Alonso is probably a safe punt

                                Same question mate.

I would say ditching Bale is worthwhile but it depends on Son fitness - Bale is unlikely to play and seems to be out of favour

Okay back to my wholly notional work in a second but here's a thought

Mo is roughly 13 points down on last season by this point by missing 13 clean sheet points! Add them in and he's closer to Bruno than at first glance.

Interesting stat - doesn't surprise me tbh. Expect Salah to be back up there with this run in - Jota still possibly a better pick if it enables upgrades throughout elsewhere

Good to hear. He's been out my team for 3 months now so when i bring him back in as planned I should expect around 60 points between now and the end of the season from him!

SimplyFPL has shutdown his YouTube channel after online abuse yesterday.

One of the fastest growing FPL channels with 10k subs in just a few months.

This culture of acting obnoxious online whilst hiding behind a fake profile is sad and cowardly.

Sorry, I felt the need to say something, I thought the FPL community was better than this.

Chances of kdb and jota only having one more rise between them?

Have 0.1 spare to do, was planning on.
Bale and Raphina to kdb and jota, and was hoping I could wait till 31, and they both have a favourable gw 30!

I'd probably just get rid of Bale. Not sure who to drop to the bench out of that lot though. Dias perhaps looks the most benchable.

Taking a defender hit the week before WC is senseless when you have 4 defenders with good/adequate fixtures already.

Bale ➡ Bruno is almost self-evident in this case.

BUT did you consider WC33? That would change the calculation.

Thanks. 33 is a consideration - and could probably hold off until then. Depends how urgently I want to get in CHE, WOL, LIV assets tbh

Well, Chelsea it's mainly the defence, right? Wolves the same, they don't score many. Liverpool? Maybe you want Salah or TAA but they could be added with transfers.

Seeing it's mainly defenders you are wanting to change and the improvements even there are marginal, I wouldn't see the value of a wildcard. Wouldn't it be better saved until you know the full detail of GW35 (or whenever the big late-season DGW is)?

Looking to do B with Bruno but I'd definitely wait until a Mourinho presser. After the last couple of days with Bale making plenty of comments, he's almost certain to be asked if he'll play against Newcastle, and he has in the past given a positive answer about certain players playing when asked.

Those with wc left when are you playing it? Gw31?

                                  Yep

Load up on pretty much all the teams mentioned here, including Leicester

That's the plan - CHE, LIV, LEI and WOL will probably all feature in some way - have none currently!

31 or 33. Partly depends on when the GW32 games are announced.

For those with no FH left, 33 has to be seriously considered I'd say (depending on current squad status).

                                    34 I think.

                                  Martinez

                                  Dallas, Azpi, Cresswell

                                  Gundo, Bruno, Salah, Son

                                  Watkins, DCL, Kane (c)

                                  Meslier Canceo, ESR, Stones

I know it’s early, but assuming Son is fit would you do Salah > Havertz with a FT? Will then be WCing and so it’s a one week punt. Alternatively Lingard or Raph?

I'd be too worried about whether Havertz starts. Raphinha appears a no-brainer.

Worth a punt, though? Not terrible to have Cancelo come on

Yeah could be worth it. I'd be too scared though. I'm one of those managers.

Thinking of going Taa+Jota for Liv run in instead of Salah.
                                  .
I see a lot of value in premium attacking defence with the likes of Creswell, Taa, Shaw, Alonso,... + good value midfielders. (lingard, jota, raphinha,gundo,...)

Can you imagine the horror of finishing in the top 6 and having to play in the........Europa Conference League?!

Slightly counterbalanced by seeing West Ham start next season with a more realistic shot at CL football the season after 🙂
