So, we’re now one Gameweek into the new season and it couldn’t have gone much better with a schedule packed full of goals – 34 of them in all, to be precise.

That in turn led to some huge Fantasy Premier League (FPL) scores, but as focus now shifts to Gameweek 2, here are some observations from the opening weekend that I found interesting and my transfer/team plans for the weekend.

KINGS OF THE CROSSES

Everton took to the wings against Southampton on Saturday afternoon, sending in crosses from all angles.

Lucas Digne (£5.5m) and Andros Townsend (£5.5m) supplied most of them, with the aim of getting the ball into the box as quickly as possible in an attempt to capitalise on Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s (£8.0m) power in the air.

Everton’s final-third passes (successful in green) v Southampton

Calvert-Lewin’s total of five shots in the box (including three headers) wasn’t beaten by any other forward in Gameweek 1, which bodes well for his prospects ahead of a kind run of fixtures against Leeds United (a), Brighton and Hove Albion (a), Burnley (h), Aston Villa (a) and Norwich City (h).

Fellow Jota owners, all set to roll the transfer or any temptation to move on?

A little temptation but I’m sure he’ll have a decent roll. Klopp will want the fans to see everyone and put on a show - so if Bobby starts Jota will get 30 minutes.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they play the four attackers given the midfield options right now.

Granted they didn't have the best euros, but when I see him play Portugal these days I feel like he's a different beast - Always capable. Must admit I'm tempted by Grsalish or Greenwood but I'm going to stick it out I think.

I already have Greenwood and Benrahma who would be the two I might have moved to. No money in the bank for anything else. So happy to hold him for a while

You think Klopp makes subs based on allowing the fans to see players off the bench for 30 minutes? What a generous guy.

      HOLD

He was a bench risk when you and I picked him. If you didn't have the risk appetite for it, shouldn't have picked him at all.

If Gundo is definitely ruled out this GW which move is better?

    a. Gundo > Sarr (next 5 out 6 games look good for Watford) ex Spurs

    b. Gundo > Benrahma (Have Antonio)

    c. Gundo > Greenwood (Have Bruno & Shaw)

    Feedback welcomed 🙂

Was hoping to save the ft. Still can but considering other options.
The plan is the WC soon either way so the focus is on short-term (now).

    Bachmann.
    Tsmikas, TAA, Shaw.
    Salah, Benrahma, Greenwood, Gundogan*.
    Wilson, Ings, Antonio.
    Sanchez, Barnes, Pereira, Coufal.
    0.0m, ITB, 1ft.

    1. Save the ft and go for a -4 or -8 next week to get Bruno.
    2. Gundo-> Sarr/Mbuemo.
    3. Gundo- Torres/Raphinha.

    Sanchez
    Digne, Shaw, Tsimikas
    Salah (c), Bruno, Pogba, Benrahma
    Ings, Antonio, Toney

Hoping to upgrade Rose to Alonso if Alonso keeps playing by downgrading Toney to Dennis

Doubt Alonso keeps his spot. But good to have dreams.
Team looks super strong, I’d find a way to start Harrison - maybe over Toney.
At home I think Leeds will put on a show.

I agree I don't think he will, but at 5.5, on set-pieces and a wing-back after what he did in 16-19, be mad not to monitor him right? Given that Tuchel didn't sign Chilwell either means there's no loyalty there.

Thank you, hit 99 GW. Gutted as Grealish & Shaw's yellows kept me out of the 100 point club.

I'll keep debating the Harrison situation.

Will have 2ft's after GW2 thinking about right now

    Barnes & Coufal/White to Greenwood & 4.5/4.0 (Have Tsimikas)

Thinking a Spurs def at 4.5 or Livramento as a 4.0 if he starts again

Can anyone add any insight into these moves

    Many thanks

Don’t know that Barnes > Greenwood is worth two moves if that makes sense.
I think double moves should make a big difference and that seems pretty sideways.
Obviously let’s see what happens this week. I don’t like having 2x 4.0s. Robbo is already back training and none of the others are nailed either.

seems these moves are too blinded by gw1
white might be a play in a few weeks but if definitely moving him on then fair enough
don't see spurs def being this solid especially with Dier at cb and most of them wont offer attacking returns.
the 4.0m def will be sitting on your bench so would prefer to bring in these type players on wildcard
better off spending the transfers with higher upside

Barnes to Raphinha, Y or N?
Barnes was non-existent against Wolves, and although Raphinha wasn't much better he could've had an assist from a set-piece and should've scored a goal too.
I think Barnes will have a tough time against Coufal and Leeds at home with their fans back will be a big boost.

Also own Barnes, but might as well give him one more game and have 2 FTs to shift him out to whichever mid priced options that performed well in GW2. Last thing you want is if Barnes haul and Rap blanked.

Barnes owners spent weeks researching in the preseason and determining he was one of the best mid-priced options. This included a semi-serious game against Man City. To now ship him to anyone, based on one game, seems sideways and reactionary to me.

Folks - what are your thoughts on Son?

I left 2.5 in the bank GW1 so I could look at Jota to Son this week. No doubt he'll do well, but I'm now considering if it's better value spreading my extra cash to say - upgrade Toney to DCL and a upgrading a 4.5 defender.

There's a slight chance they lose Auba and Laca, and gain Coutinho. The midfield would be quite something, but they'd only have ropey kids to play up top.

Arteta is a joke and Arsenal is a big team the fans dont't deserve that .. i mean how come the owners or whatever responsible simply don't care about fans and football and experimenting with a guy that have no idea ... Arsenal used to be a scary team not that long ago but since Arteta managed the team and its rubbish even a 13 years kid can manage better.

last time they were scary was 2004. the sanchez era was good for points from an FPL perspective, auba had a couple of good runs but was never 'essential'
the fans do deserve more seeing as they pay for the most expensive season tickets in the world, or at least they were maybe spurs are more now

Son is the player I'm most nervous about not owning. I know he's gonna hurt me. The only way I can get him is by ruining my roadmap to get Lukaku in a few weeks. I'm not currently prepared to do that.

I'm with you on this one.

Digne needs to be d/graded to a 4.0. Possibly Amartey if he keeps his place - another good game v WOL. Or Livramento but don't expect cs. Duffy at BHA might be an option.

You have Salah, Bruno and Son, therefore no flexibility in your team without sacrificing someone that may backfire significantly. You play 4-4-2 which means you can't afford to downgrade Raphina.Your only option is to downgrade Trent and upgrade Toney in my view - but I don't think its worth it.
