With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) live for 2022/23, we’ll be welcoming back our stellar team of Pro Pundits and Hall of Famers for the new campaign.

We’ll be hearing from a different writer every day in the aftermath of the FPL relaunch, to get their thoughts on the pricing and to see their initial picks.

Our writers will be providing regular articles and team reveals throughout the new season, with only Premium Members able to access every single one.

Next up is FPL Milanista, who has posted overall ranks of 473rd and 1,547th in the last two FPL seasons.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is back for a new season and so is our tinkering. The Premier League champions have signed one of the most prolific talents in world football, Erling Haaland (£11.5m), while runners-up Liverpool have also strengthened their squad and, in my opinion, still offer the best FPL options for our teams. Without further ado, let’s jump into my initial thoughts and first draft for the 2022/23 season.

Think I've become addicted to the squads you can get by shunning Salah. May god have mercy on my rank.

Yep, you might get away with it short-term, but that's not going to end well.

It's also hard to get him in later, especially when he goes up to 13.1

So the question is- What price would tip the scales for you? 14M? 15M??

Don’t let FOMO pick your team.

Plenty of viable premium options other than Salah this year for less

Kane or Son are a must & I am saying this as a massive Gooner! 200+ easy

Sterling playing every game is 200+ player

Haaland will rip it up 200+

I agree about FOMO, but equally chose your battles. Fomo is way better when you’ve made decisions based on information from the season. Don’t try and win it and be different early on. Your time will come. Ask Lateriser12.

Being a non-Salah owner is a risker play to be sure.

That said, we're not talking about TC a defender GW1 lvl of risk here. We're talking about giving the armband to the likes of Kane, Son, Haaland, KDB, Sterling, etc.

So, even a cpl. of blanks for Mo to start the year would be a boon to non-Salah owners.

I'd say it depends on what other players you're thinking of giving the armband to - Mo & Kane have great GW1 fixtures, but in GW2 are you going to feel comfortable giving it to Kane v. CHE?

Doherty might be a non-starter and I wouldn't use a pool spot on Alisson.

Kane and Haaland in the same team is a bit inflexible if one is out of form or injured.

  9. AIRMILES

Currently I'm looking at a starting 11 made up of zero enablers. It means going without Haaland, but it does mean 3x 8.0 midfielders, which for me is preferable to having Haaland alongside two enabling midfielders.

    Alisson - (4.0)
    Cancelo - TAA - Chilwell - James - Perisic
    Salah - Kulusevski - Mount - Mahrez - (4.5)
    Jesus - (4.5) - (4.5)

    0.0 ITB

Thoughts on this? If Haaland hits the ground running, then I'll want to jump on him, and there are merits to the likes of Martinelli, Rashford, Neto, but with Salah as an obvious captain choice, I don't feel the need to start the season with a second premium.

    1. TheBiffas
      • 5 Years

Everyone hyping up these 8.0 mids but I think three is a bit excessive, rather get Wilson or Watkins up top

Yep, Kulusevski might be too much.

    2. Mixed Bag
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

      Yeah, it's very solid.

The issue with that approach is you can't jump on an expensive player very easily, I mean without sacrificing Salah, which is definitely not the percentage play.

  10. TheBiffas
    • 5 Years
    4 years, 4 days ago

I'm trying out more balanced drafts but I keep coming back to the threemium

    Meslier

    TAA - Walker - Trippier - Tomiyasu

    Salah - Diaz - Rashford - Martinelli

    Kane - Haaland

Obviously not for everyone with Walker, Rashford, Martinelli not being nailed on but they're risks I'm willing to take

    1. aapoman
      • 12 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

I like it apart from Walker. I think you'd be better by downgrading Rashfors to a 5.5 and Walker to Laporte/Dias

    3. Catastrophe
      • 15 Years
      4 years, 4 days ago

I think you have to give up Diaz if you go for a threemium and try to avoid other rotation risks. Alisson IMO is a very good replacement and may well end up scoring similar points and gives you the comfort of 3 Liverpool...

I'm on this for now, although doubting Martinelli, Botman etc.

      Alisson
      TAA, Cancelo, Chilwell, Botman, Tomiyasu
      Salah, Martinelli, Neto
      Kane, Haaland

      1. TheBiffas
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 4 days ago

I just need Diaz in my team man 🙁 If he starts being clinical I think he's a 200+ point player, potentially matching Cancelo for pretty much the same price

        1. Catastrophe
          • 15 Years
          4 years, 4 days ago

I know what you mean, but Salah & TAA should be plenty of LIV attack. I really fancy Alisson to match Diaz. Cancelo is a whole 1M cheaper than Diaz. Any 'additional' points you gain from Diaz I fear would be far outweighed by Walker who will surely get less minutes (especially if Cucurella signs) versus Cancelo, no Chilwell/James etc. IMO.

          1. TheBiffas
            • 5 Years
            4 years, 4 days ago

Getting Cancelo over Diaz would shift my team structure so the 4.5 fodder mid instead of the 4.0 fodder def essentially means it's a 0.5 diff

Robbo outscored TAA for the 2nd half of last season. I know TAA is great and on set pieces, but it's genuinely a close call.

I think they got their pricing spot on with those 2.

Trouble is it locks you out of Diaz but there are so many good 8.0 mids.

Yeah for me it's turned into Alisson /Saka/Toney vs Sanchez/Diaz/Jesus. Leaning towards the former.

    A. Mount & Kane (5-3-3), or
    B. James & Salah (5-3-2)?

      Very tough. Depends on captain.

James and Salah if Chelsea bring in enough CBs so James isn't playing RCB

I’d be inclined to go with Salah and a cheaper defender then use the extra cash elsewhere. That said, a 5-3-3 formation does sound appealing!

That's a fair point too, thank you! A Kane, Haaland and Jesus forward line is so tempting though...!

    Thoughts on the Sterling squad.

    Alisson
    TAA, Cancelo, Laporte, James, Chilwell
    Sterling, Diaz, Rashford
    Haaland, Jesus
    (Gazzaniga, Bailey, Andreas, Greenwood)

I think Leon Bailey makes an a great first sub.

Could score massive I just couldn't have that much in defence and no Salah

Cheers, I like having 3 players from each of the top 3 clubs and not owning Salah enables this.

Personally I prefer my 1st sub to churn out a steady 2, 6, 2, 6 rather than 0, 1, 7, 1 - but each to their own. Some fun in hoping to strike lucky when you need him I guess

I assume you are referring to a £4.5m defender (from a team that will keep 19 clean-sheets?)?

This could be done by doing Laporte + Bailey > N.Williams + Grealish in a 442.

My head tells me I need Salah, my gut tells me to take a gamble.

    Thoughts on this welcome

    Raya/4.0
    TAA/VVD/James/Cancelo (Neco)
    Diaz/Bowen/Maddison (Andreas/4.5)
    Jesus/Wilson/Kane (or Haaland)

Bowen has a tough first game but he can always score!

Salah-less first draft, Arsenal fast out the blocks

    Alison (Gazzaniga)

    Cancelo VVD White Neco (Tanganga)

    Son Sterling Diaz Martinelli (Andreas)

    Jesus Haaland (Archer)

Aside from Salah that I’m happy to gamble on early, and an LFC full back (which is attainable) - what else needs adding?

If going big in defense, it kind of all comes down to this for me:

    8.0 MID + Haaland/Kane
    OR
    Son + 7.5 FWD

Appreciate any thoughts. Obviously, if things go wrong, I will not hesitate to press -4.

Kane still being on pens and 0.5 less than Son is obviously easier to start with, and I really do like 8.0 mids more than any 7.5 fwds.
