Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers won’t be able to call upon the services of Marcus Rashford (£7.2m) in Gameweek 31.

A muscle injury picked up by Rashford in Saturday’s win over Everton has not only ruled him out of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final, first-leg tie against Sevilla but more games beyond it.

This latest update came from Erik ten Hag’s pre-match press conference ahead of that aforementioned clash with the La Liga outfit.

The Dutchman also brought us news of Luke Shaw (£5.1m), with the key quotes detailed below.

We’ve also got updates to bring you from two of the three other clubs involved in midweek European action, Manchester City and Chelsea.

West Ham United’s David Moyes will face reporters later on Wednesday but the good news from east London is that Lucas Paqueta (£5.9m) was back in training today, having missed out in Gameweek 30.

MAN UTD

The Red Devils put out an injury update on Rashford even before ten Hag faced the media, saying that their top goalscorer would be out for “a few games” but return in the “final weeks”.

“The forward was withdrawn in the 80th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford and immediately headed to the dressing room for treatment.

“Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in.

“The England international’s absence is a disappointment given his red-hot form this season, with 28 goals in all competitions.

“But there will also be relief about the prospect of his return for important games in the final weeks of the season.” – Man Utd’s update on Marcus Rashford

Ten Hag followed that up with an update of his own, although he merely echoed what the club had stated above.

“A few games. That’s the statement. So I can’t give more details of it because we don’t know, we have to see how it develops, the injury.” – Erik ten Hag on Marcus Rashford

Later in the presser, ten Hag revealed that Rashford would “return quickly”.

“Of course, it’s a setback and he’s disappointed, but he’s not totally broke because he knows he will return quickly and so he’s optimistic. He’s started straight on his recovery and his rehab, so that helps to get back soon.” – Erik ten Hag

As for Luke Shaw (hamstring), the news was more positive.

Asked about the left-back and Alejandro Garnacho (ankle), ten Hag said:

“Both not available [for Thursday]. Definitely the injury of Garnacho is more severe, more strong. Luke Shaw I expect him back at short notice.” – Erik ten Hag

MAN CITY

There was only Phil Foden (appendicitis) absent for Manchester City’s excellent win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday but the reigning Premier League champions were handed a bit of a scare midway through the second half of that victory, with Kevin De Bruyne needing treatment on an ankle injury (reported as a knee problem elsewhere).

The Belgian was substituted soon after but Guardiola allayed fears of a medical issue.

“Tactical decision. Julian [Alvarez] for him.

“I’m here to take the decisions, to see the performances on the pitch. In that moment, we needed extra energy from Julian, that’s why I decided. I am here to take the decisions and, I take it. That is my biggest quality as a manager, so I take it.” – Pep Guardiola on Kevin De Bruyne’s substitution

CHELSEA

Frank Lampard almost has a full squad available to him for Wednesday’s clash with Real Madrid, a luxury that his predecessor Graham Potter rarely enjoyed.

Thiago Silva (knee), Mason Mount (pelvic) and N’Golo Kante (rested on Saturday) were all passed fit in Lampard’s presser, while Cesar Azpilicueta (head) and Marcus Bettinelli (knock) have both trained and travelled with their teammates to Spain.

That only leaves Carney Chukwuemeka (unspecified) and long-term absentee Armando Broja (ACL) on the sidelines.

Who should I replace Rash with then? Maybe a 1 week punt (FH next week), unfortunately can't get Mart or Mitoma in as already own 3 Arsenal & Brighton. 8.6 ITB, it's either Olise/Eze, Billing, Mahrez/Gundo. Or is it worth -4 to remove an Arsenal/Brighton player to bring in better versions

    Raya (Steele)
Trip / Chil / Zinc (Estu / Pinnock)
Ode / Saka / Grealish / Rash* (Mac Allister)
    Kane / Haaland / Watkins

    Thank you

I hadn't considered that, is that when there's more doubles?
At this moment I'd only have 8 players for 32, I could hold Rash and have 2 FTs for next week if those other GWs you mention are better for FH

It wouldn't be a one week punt if you're playing FH. Your team will revert to exactly how it was before the FH so you will still have the player the week after. Rashford will probably be back GW33 so I am keeping.

You're right, think I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with my thinking there! As you say, may be worth holding on as I don't really have any obvious replacements without taking a hit

We can wait and see what he says before the presser for the Prem but he will have had 3 weeks to recover by then and it isn't like he has broken his leg. He will be back sooner rather than later.

For me it all comes down to whether he will be ready for gw34 or not. Same with Shaw. I have a free hit so leaning towards FH32, but if they are both gonna miss gw 34 then I would completely change my strategy and transfer both out and FH34

Was trying to remember when I had last seen Haaland play as aggressively for City as he did last night and suddenly I remembered the Arsenal game at the Emirates. City didn't opt for the same tactic as often last night as they did against Arsenal, but there were certainly a few more high and diagonal balls aimed to Haaland as well. I've only seen him play in this way in these two games so far for City (Pep spoke a bit more in depth about him targeting Gabriel and Saliba in that manner after that PL game) but it seems like they're starting to develop a few different ways to utilise Haaland now. Scary thought given what he's already done!

Yeah I'm definitely hoping that will be the case, I didn't feel it was ideal holding for this long but it just didn't feel like the right time during City's last DGW given the fixtures and City not looking the best. They're looking like a machine right now chasing down Arsenal so hopefully it bodes well

With FH32 planned, I need to use my 1FT but not sure where I would use if I plan to keep Rashford and Shaw this GW.

    What would you do here?

    FH32
    1FT 3.4ITB
    Raya
    Trippier Estupinan Chilwell
    Saka March Bruno Mitoma
    Toney Haaland Watkins
    (Kepa Botman Rashford* Shaw*)

      Looks ‘ok’
Rashford -> Grealish is popular but a chance could be rested.
Chilwell also a concern so could look at ditching Shaw ?

I think Shaw is back by 33 - ETH sounded positive so maybe even this week.

I would say Chilwell is the only clear change i'd make. Maybe a luxury keeper transfer? Anything you want for 34 you can bring in now?

Yeah I reckon he gets 20-30 mins at the end of the match this week and then starts the following match

Plan is to keep Shaw. Also currently leaning towards keeping Rashford and play March.

3 top EV suggested moves for my team are listed below:
        1. Chilwell to TAA
        2. Raya/Kepa to Ederson
        3. Toney to Greenwood

I think I would rather wait closer to 34 for TAA, Ederson doesn't convince me as a FPL pick expecially at 5.4m and feels a bit early to downgrade Toney but understandable to release funds for Salah in 34

Interesting. I don't think Trent offers the value needed - and given a premium triple up of Haaland, Salah and Bruno could be tasty I wouldn't go there myself. And certainly not ahead of the two away games 'Pool have. Ederson ties up too much value in the GK position without changing the other to fodder. Toney to Greenwood good for the funds, but not until 33.

I'm in a very similar position. Rashford to Grealish seems like the easy move but I don't love that it means benching a Brighton mid. Maybe Raya to Ederson?

It is a move I'm considering if I want someone from city defence but not overly convinced by him as a FPL pick. Generally 2 or 6 pointer at 5.4m is not great

Yeah don't love it myself. Could easily see Raya continuing to outscore him even though Ederson has the extra games.

Any downgrades you'd need to make toward your GW34 team? I recall you saying you wanted to keep Kepa for DGW37 but if you need an extra 0.7m somewhere you could fodderise his spot?

      1. Tonyawesome69
        • 7 Years

I'll downgrade the Toney spot before 34 to release funds. Just not sure it's right to do it this GW though

      Chilwell to TAA?

      Such a good team,

Are you downgrading Toney o fodder and to Salah for a 3-5-2 before GW34?

Below is the transfer plan if I bring in TAA this GW.

          31 - Chilwell to TAA
          32 - FH
33 - Toney to greenwood or save FT
34 - Toney and Saka to Greenwood and Salah. Maybe Raya to Ederson as well

I'm also curious about this, Tony. Do you plan to get Salah at all? Looks like you only have one midifeld spot remaining for a doubler, and that's if you're selling Saka. No City mids?

        1. Tonyawesome69
          • 7 Years

Yeah Saka to Salah is the plan. Very difficult to sell Bruno, March and Mitoma before the end of the season. Not completely ruled out selling Rashford to Grealish yet, that would be my only way into City mid

            Sounds great

I would do Toney and Saka to Greenwood and Salah -4, GW33? and Raya to Ederson GW34 if you were going to do all three? I think Raya may ourscore Ederson (-4 GW34), but you do have another go in GW37

Odegaard seems to have fallen out of favour as a template pick.
But he is nailed on to start in an attacking Arsenal side, he looks a decent mid-priced differential choice. Surely he will haul a few points over the title run-in.

I made this post yesterday thanks to a good Twitter post regarding the difference that Saliba being available makes to White, Odegaard and Saka compared to when Holding is playing. They seem to be less involved in play as Holding seems to primarily play out to the direction he's facing (left) thus reducing the impact of those three and changing the field tilt too.

    FH32 or FH34?

Leading mini league by only 6 points after trailing by 60 4/5 weeks ago though they have WC/BB/FH left. Likely FH32, WC33 & BB34.

My team for 32 (have a FT this week and caps are GW34 doublers)

    Raya (kepa)
    Botman, Trippier, Mee (chilwell, SHAW)
    Martinelli, Saka (RASH, MITOMA, MARCH)
    Kane, Watkins (HAALAND)

Best option here? Will be FHing in 32 so need to use or lose 1FT this week:

    A) Rashford -> 6.9 (Martinelli)
    B) Mee & Rashford -> 4.9 (Konate) & Grealish (-4)
    C) Mee -> Akanji

    Raya
    Trippier, James, Shaw
    Bruno, Saka, Mitoma, March
    Haaland, Kane, Watkins

    Kepa, Mee, Estupinan, Rashford
    Bank 0.0m, 1FT

I’ve got the same dilemma and have enough to get thru both GW32 and get thru GW33. I don’t like the idea of WC directly before FH.

I’m looking at either FH34 WC35 or WC34 FH37. Need to work out the Pro’s and Con’s of those 2 options.

I have both (and bench boost) and I'm teed up nicely to get through GW32 (albeit probably with no goalie, though they can often score very low anyway) – so I'm planning to wildcard GW33 into a strong GW34 bench boost.

Leaving free hit floating for whatever I fancy, prob one of the outstanding doubles but if nothing else then a GW38 charge.

Appreciate this doesn't quite help, as I have bench boost muddying the waters.

Good plan, if I had a BB then would definitely WC33 BB34.

GW37 will also be a small DGW so FH will be handy that week

Still waiting on 3 previously postponed fixtures to get new dates.

Is Mahrez only a good option if you’re dead-ending your team due to higher rotation risk even though Grealish played the 90?

TEAM ATM (!FT 0.2m ITB NO FH left)

    DDG / Raya
    Chilwell, Trippier, Henry (Botman, Zouma)
    Saka, Macallister, Mitoma, Maddison (Rashford)
    Haaland (c), Kane, Watkins

    Q1. A.Double up with Raya/Henry
    B. or play DDG with Casimero back

Q2 1. Maddison/Rashford to Martinelli (will have two Arsenal GW33 away to Man City
    2. or Olise +4 who i can hold until GW34

Q3. I will wait for more news but sell Maddison or Rashford (Zaha is back in 2 to 3 weeks with a Grade 1 Groin injury and recovers fast) so I can see Rashford until 34, but would be fully fit by then.

      DDG - higher CS odds

      Maddison to Martinelli

Similar time line for Haaland grade 1 groin strain as well

        Yeah, Thanks Tony.

I can see Rashford making it back to GW34, GW33, is a close call

    Rashford replacement:
    A) Mitoma
    B) Olise
    C) someone else?

    Raya (Steele)
    Trippier Zinchenko shaw botman Estupinan
    Saka Odegaard grealish March (Rashford)
    Haaland Kane watkins

Safe is Mitoma. Maverick is Olise. I don’t think Palace will score as many as Brighton but you’ve perhaps got a slightly higher chance of Olise being involved in goals. I’d still favour Brighton given they have two games more than Palace remaining

Mitoma, looks like you are FH 32.

Maddison, Saka, Toney to Alvarez, March and Grealish. Sets up well for double game weeks and gives me 3x Brighton and X3 City attack.

-8 but I'm 1.5 million and using FH 32 so want to jump on the fixtures and form

2 if Alvarez doesn’t play! I know you’re chasing but that’s not always the way to claw back

        It's a good shout bud.

I would prefer Gundo but he takes a valuable spot in the midfield.

But you're still right. But Alverez could score massive IF he starts which is a big if. With KBD potentially hurt (don't think he is) he should take his spot but still food for thought

Obviously 32 is weak, but FHing so you're fine.

Not sure on selling saka, either arsenal will be back to it after their stumble at Anfield or they'll drop off form, in which case best to leave him in for a week or two more.

Alvarez is an interesting one, he does get minutes but limited. Ideal for the dgw, but he might play less minutes over 2 games than a single gameweek player...but equally he has the potential to outscored single gameweek players in the limited time he does play.

Grealish is kinda top transfer target so little to discuss there.

March a great shout too, assuming you have mitoma? If not I'd go for him.

-8 is a large cost but you are planning long term, should pay off.

Yeah I have Mitoma already and Estu so it will be the 3rd Brighton spot filled.

I agree with you both, Alverez is severely boom or bust and my season is a bit of a right off right now so trying to target players with upside.

          why not?

Pep likes to go 4-4-2 when his midfield are tired and done their job. City sometimes get 4 or 5 then

    Thoughts on this;

    Rashford + Maddison --> Grealish + Olise (-4)

    Raya
    Trippier Gabriel Mings
    Mitoma Martinelli Grealish Saka
    Haaland Kane Watkins

    Kepa Olise Henry Castagne

I'm tempted to start Olise over Saka tbh...

I've tossed a coin when it comes to keepers, can't see Chelsea keeping a CS

it doesn't look like a free hit team to me. Olise gets 2 games to \Grealish one, and Rashford is probably 3 GWs away

Could the FH32 chip and/or holding out for dgw34 with Shaw and Rashford be providing a comfort blanket or haze?

In the sense of not dealing with injured players, it only needs say Chilwell to be injured tonight and a surprise benching and your squad becomes short straight away.

Really in doubts what to do here, apart from selling Chilwell and getting Haaland. FH32 with getting City + Liverpool in seems sensible, right?

    Raya (Steele)
    Trippier Zinchenko Chilwell (Estupinan Shaw)
    Saka Martinelli Maddison March (Rashford)
    Kane Watkins Toney

    A) Toney & Chilwell > Haaland & Ake/Akanji (not really into City defense btw)
    B) Toney & Chilwell > Haaland & Guehi
    C) Toney & Chilwell & Maddison > Haaland & Trent & Olise (-4)
    D) Chilwell & Maddison > Trent & Grealish (survive without Haaland this week)

Doesn't C make more sense in that case?
Maddison has been a huge disappointment for me and betting on CIty defense gives me just another reason to get him out, doesn't it?

Could also do C with Ake & Grealish but worried about going all in on City with an injured bench

      Same here ( I think)

      DDG / Raya
      Chilwell, Trippier, Henry (Botman, Zouma)
      Saka, Macallister, Mitoma, Maddison (Rashford)
      Haaland (c), Kane, Watkins

Maddison to Olise +4 or to Martinelli, Gapko i hadn't considered TBH
