Stones over chillwell in GW1, Chelsea unlikely to keep a cleansheet over liverpool.

Watkins over Jackson if I have a choice.

Forget Foden due to pep roulette.

If we win the Community Shield, then it really is a prestigious trophy. If we lose, it’s just a glorified pre-season friendly. There will be positive or negative overreaction anyway, but let's hope to see some good football today.

Isn't it 5-0 to Manchester City in wins in recent games?

A win would boost confidence for Arsenal but it could be like last season and a counter indicator for Man City prospects.

It's even worse. Arsenal haven't beaten City since 2020 and have struggled against them since 2017.

          Just checked, ouch.

8 games straight losses, since the 2 nil win in the FA Cup semi final.

I've got a feeling for Arsenal today. Hopefully it's a decent game.

I understand what you're saying, it's a bit like Andy Murray- if he plays well he's british if he's loosing he's Scottish, but in my opinion a trophy is a trophy no matter how prestigious its always good to put silverware in the clubs cabinet.

      1. Arteta

I'm obviously hoping for a win, but I won't lose my mind if they beat us again. Guardiola always finds a way to get a result, even if they aren't at their best and aren't dominating on the pitch for most of the game. I'm a realist.

In a sense we've got nothing to lose. The weight of expectation is on City. No big surprise if they win, but a bad omen for them if they lose.

I think more than anything it's about performing well against them and testing yourselves for the start of the season. Playing the best team in Europe before the season starts to give yourself another good idea of what you'll be facing can only be beneficial

Given the choice, would you keep Ellis Simms parked on your bench at 4.5m just to hold a bit of value early on?

Or is this pointless and would you have a potential 3rd sub in Osula at Sheffield United or Divin Mubama at West Ham?

Will keep away from Archer due to the Villa slot but of course if Watkins wasn't available he's a strong option there.

        I think that's right.

Probably give the West Ham guy a go ... He'll be £4.3 by gw4 and I'll be short of 0.1 in a third striker position somehow!

        What's your view?

...a 14 player game just seems to weaken the bench for holding some transfer value but you park £4.5m and freeze it in the initial process.

        1. DavvaMC
          • 5 Years

Still undecided to be honest. Mubama seems to be gathering a lot of interest, does he become a regular though?

It happened to me last season where my fodder kept decreasing in value and meant some wanted transfers could not happen.

    3. Dibble
      • 3 Years

I would hold Simms as long as your other 2 subs are starters. You can swap him out on the wc to whoever the 4.3/4.2 forward is that’s hit rock bottom.

I'm kinda punting on James being unavailable soon enough with Gusto second sub which makes me think holding Simms is dim.

I've got Pinnock 1st sub unless Henry is okay.

It works both ways as Eugene says. It’s your choice. The way I look at it is you’d be extremely lucky that when the time comes that you actually need Mubama, he actually scored you some points, whereas the extra possible 0.3 could be more useful. Swings and roundabouts really.

            That's a good plan.

Just bench the bottom slot and nab the difference, rather than ever want a 15th spot.

I hadn't actually thought it through that far....

Had thought I'd activate it later. So now this is a positive play until wildcard 1 or with a transfer to burn 10 weeks in.

Another thing is if West Ham buy a striker Mubama is going to be that 4.2

                Yeah

And the guy who falls is close enough to the first team to build % selected by and drop early on when the main guys play.

But could become a playing option later on with injuries parked at £4.2 or 4.3 and no ill feelings.

What is the point of a sub appearance of your third sub. You won’t get the points anyway. So why risk loss on value? If you’re fielding pretty much nailed players and 1st sun get the lowest owned for your 3rd spot on the bench

There's just too much on the bench here isn't there? The problem is, I want them all.

    Martinez (4.0m)

    Chilwell Shaw Stones Estupinan Gabriel

    Rashford Saka Mbuemo Eze Foden

    Haaland Watkins (4.5m)

Super strong bench. Especially in the back. I presume u would have gotten mitoma if you could.

Take a look at mine, worst bench ever but super stacked 11.

      Onana (Areola)

Gabriel / Estupinan / Stones (Beyer) (Baldock)

      Saka / Mbeumo / Salah / Rashford / Mitoma

      Haaland / Ferguson (Archer)

I'm sure he'll develop onto a good career.

But not sure he's the attacking defender people were suggesting.

I don't know hardly anything about him but 1 goal in 70 club appearances in 3 seasons doesn't scream attacking returns in the Premier League for Luton Town.

But you never know what the future holds.

Bit disappointed. Was hoping for a Neale article on yesterday's crucial preseason games this morning.

We need a preseason round up / summary article from Neale this week.

Which £4m defender has had the most minutes?

    Ditto which £4.5m forward etc

He could send him a breakfast parcel? Porridge and honey or melon and a continental spread....

It's Sunday morning and some people have family time as well.

Pay £20 or so a year to make 365 demands it seems!

I bet someone is drafting it soon anyhow.

      - Full but no problem if things change and having money itb, did it the last two years
      - Salah hasn't left my draft and won't
      - 3-4-3 but haven't touched Nkunku yet and open to any possibilities. I'd say 3-5-2 is most likely how I'll start unless he's somehow fine

Almost since day 1 I have had a midfield Arsenal triple-up of Saka, Martinelli and Ode. Have tried many other teams but I always seem to come back to this. I get that that there is more options in Arsenals midfield this year, with Saka being a given I feel there is a lot of value in Ode (8.5) and Martinelli (8) regardless. I am yet to see anyone else here with the same three so can anyone point out the flaws for me?

There's a guy in my ML who nearly always had Salah and Mane every year despite how much it cost and the other options he missed out on, but he always did well with those because Liverpool scored so many goals and they were so involved. I don't see an issue since they're going to likely do the same. Getting very, very tempted by Odegaard of late myself alongside Saka, maybe even in place of

I think also having the three for a plum home fixture against Forest is too appealing. I will probably leave them there for that and reassess after. Will also be keeping a keen eye on todays friendly.

I don't see much about Chukwuemeka at 4.5 but feel like him and Anderson are interesting, offer most potential for points in the future rather than 2s and 1s from someone like Nakamba

Cheap enough way into the Man Utd defence who will get clean sheets, including some early on.

But you're right, he's not the obvious keeper when you drill into it further.

This data visualisation is helpful for clean sheet predictions.

Pedro, Edouard and Wissa are great enablers in my opinion and with the budget being so flexible due to kind prices this year, we can afford to have a bit of money in our bench options or rotations.

Important match but may be a different, more defensive approach by Arsenal today - maybe Havertz on the bench for instance, compared to Forest which should be more attacking.

Before the friendlies it was Flekken for me. Last 2 weeks I've stuck with Steele.

Probably Steele but Brighton's fixtures turn too.

Long-term its quite hard to say at the moment, so many changes & uncertainties. I was on Flekken but Brentford's defensive performance v Villa was so poor I had to rethink. Still not convinced Steele starts over Verbruggen tbh. So for the first 4 GWs (WC5), I think I'll just go with Johnstone as I think he has as good a chance as any at 2 CS (shu WOL).
