Maddy prob got the edge given the next fixture and Chelsea unsteadiness at the season start. Still, rock and a hard place

Maddison getting the edge because his stats are better. Problem is that he has both Arsenal and Liverpool coming up. Burnley away also a tricky fixture.

Sterling has only had one outstanding game so far but fixtures favour him.

        Coin flip...

Spurs v Liverpool and the NLD are often goalfests - they are not difficult fixtures for attackers, especially with how all 3 teams have looked dodgy defensively. Burnley have shipped 6 goals in 2 games at home, how are they “tricky”?

Burnley could decide to play really well. I think my main issue with Spurs is and mentioned it before, they have no finisher up top so it is left to Maddison to carry that whole team. If he has a bad game, it all comes tumbling down.

I got him in on my WC in GW1 then got rid as soon as I heard the news about the scan of his foot etc. Was stupid for jumping early and as much as I want to get him back right now, think I am going to try hold out until after LFC. They play Luton the very next GW.

He is under 8m so to get him in is not an issue.

Pricing has killed the game this season.

Oh I love Maddison, but I'm not wary of the Burnley fixture. They look more positive than LUT/SHU so I think it'll be an open game, althogh tbf its early days & they conceded early in both games so my impression might be slightly distorted by gamestate. Still, Maddi (C) is on for me this weellk

Do you think Burnley just decided to play badly their last 2 games then?

They've been carried by Kane the last how-many years, but Son and even Richarlison still scored in a goal-fest against Liverpool last season. Form goes out the window in derbies too.

There'll be a lot of goals in Spurs fixtures this season, and Maddison will be involved in the vast majority of them. Putting off a dream FPL pick (cheap nailed talisman for a top 6 team on set-pieces) because he plays Burnley next week is just shocking logic.

I have Jackson, Haaland and Alvarez up top and got in Bowen already.

Obviously makes it easier to bring in Maddison if I was playing two up top. But anyhow, Maddison is under 8 million so an easy one transfer move if need be.

    Pickford.
    Chilwell, Henry, Estupinan.
    Fernandes, Martinelli, Rashford, Saka.
    Watkins, Alvarez, Haaland.
    Turner, Gabriel, Beyer, E. Anderson.
    1ft, 0.3m ITB

    1. Something like Rashford -> Mbuemo/Sterling/Madders.

    2. WC to something like below.. Structural reasons above anything else. Getting a decent 5 in midfield and shoring up defence.
Confident I can keep on top of fixture/form swings.

    Ederson.
    Chilwell, Colwill, Estupinan/Henry.
    Bruno, Sterling, Saka, Mbuemo, Maddison.
    Alvarez, Haaland.
    Turner, Udogie, Cash, Archer.
    2.2m ITB..

    Taken from Twitter

    Maddison - 8 shots, 9 chances created, 2.89 xGI

    Sterling - 6 shots, 4 chances created, 1.46 xGI

I’m a United fan and feel like Martinelli probably returns against us but I want to break up my 4 mids from 2 teams so in comes Madders. Will happily also bring Sterling in next week if needed, will have cash for a swap from Foden if he gets benched again.

Do you guys look at set piece takers when deciding your teams?

Surely you would think someone like Maddison, who seems integral to the spurs attack in open play and is also on set pieces will score a lot of points this season?

    Likewise Bruno, Mbeumo etc

It's why I'm looking at Ward Prowse over Bowen.

Thinking of shipping the likes of Martinelli, Mitoma etc and just going for either the clubs penalty taker or the one who dominates the set pieces.

I mean, Rashford, Martinelli, Mitoma, Diaby etc all need to score their points from open play, surely someone like Ward Prowse who dominates every set piece for a very set piece team anyway is going to chip away with a lot of points?

    Does that make sense?

    1. DARK SIDE OF THE LOON

      Not exactly.

      1. rozzo
        • 12 Years

The set piece takers have more avenues for points.

United can play poorly for three games but Bruno can end up as their highest scoring player due to a dodgy penalty.

    2. x.jim.x
      • 11 Years

What ratio of goals do you think a team scores from set-pieces versus open play?

      1. rozzo
        • 12 Years
        2 years, 3 months ago

        But it's an added bonus.

Salah has scored a lot of points over the years in fpl from open play, beefed up considerably by penalties.

Someone like Douglas Luiz who offers no threat from open play wouldn't be a good option

Someone like Mbeumo has a decent threat from open play but if we take away his penalties and free kicks nobody would pick him would they?

        1. x.jim.x
          • 11 Years
          2 years, 3 months ago

Yes it's a bonus, which is why they're priced higher than alternatives, but you've pretty much covered Ward-Prowse with your Douglas Luiz comment.

It would actually be interesting to look at these stats by player/team. % of goals/chances deriving from set pieces is something I've never quite been able to pin down from the stats offered here. Do you know somewhere this info is readily available?

WhoScored have the data (as seen here: https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/32/Statistics/England-Manchester-United) but I haven't really dug around in it or seen if it's possible to pull history, etc.

Would be interesting to see though, you're right! (Would be painful for me personally, United are woeful at set-pieces).

I actually had penalties in mind when I made my team. Salah, Bruno, Pedro, Saka, Haaland all have had penalties so far and I also have Watkins and Mitoma. Had I gone Mbeumo instead of Mitoma as I thought, it would have been even more profitable.

I'd say there definitely is an edge to be had here.

    Areola
    Chilwell | Udogie | Cash
    Salah | Bruno | Saka | Maddison | Sterling
    Haaland | Alvarez

    Thoughts? Shall I?

    Moves are:
    Pickford -> Areola
    Estupinan -> Udogie
    Foden -> Maddison

Do you earn extra points in this game if you present an FPL podcast?

Last season I had the near exact same team as each of them and even the rare weeks where my differentials scored and their's didn't, they would always end with 7-8 points more than me.

But this week is ridiculous. The intro said a good week for those who kept faith with Saka and Rashford - I did both of those, captained Haaland, did that too but were unlucky with Estupinan, Pedro and Mbuemo, same.

They got 56 and 64, I got 33. I have hardly got a player less than 10% owned.

I can keep Salah and still get both Sterling and or Maddison. I have Jackson, Alvarez and Haaland up top. At this point I am leaning towards just Sterling.

A Maddison or Sterling injury tonight and we're gonna have a lot of crying over early transfers.

Would have thought so. Be interesting to see how strong both teams go.

Also hilarious that Chelsea have spent a billion quid in 3 windows and had to enter the Carabao in the second round.

I'll be gutted if Sterling hurts himself tonight when Chelsea don't even have a game today

"You are a casual if you get Rodri" I seem to remember. i have watched him closely over 2 seasons and his game has developed into something worthwhile. i got laughed out of town. Maybe they are right.

Eze to Rodri was my first transfer of the season. Gained 8 points so far, and Rodri is up to 5.7 while Eze is down to 6.4

My other transfer have been... less succesful

What I noticed in the games since KDB got hurt, is that Rodri is always open at the top of the box waving his arms and yelling at his teammates to pass him the ball.

Damn, I made so many transfer on my wildcard in GW2 I forgot what my sole GW1 transfer was. It was actually Douglas Luiz to Rodri. So I've only gained 4 points on that so far because Luiz scored a pen in GW2.

In GW2 I moved Eze to Maddison on the Friday night before he went up to 7.6, but then I ended up playing my wildcard and with the injury news I took Maddison out for Diaz.

    A) Rashford + Mitoma > Sterling + Maddison (-4)

    or

    B) Mitoma > Sterling (can't afford Maddison)

Does Watkins score against a VVDless Liverpool?

Think good chance either him or diaby score

Pretty much a coin toss between those 3 tbh, all have a decent chance of points.

Already used banked FTs to bring in Sterling and Maddison. Right now it is between Mbeumo, Bruno, Watkins for first spot on the bench

There was a good chance with or without VVD.

Villa very very rarely fail to score under Emery. I think it's only 1 game (maybe 2) that they haven't scored in since he came in. They quite possibly lose the game but very good chance they score.

City are bound to sign Nunes from Wolves so not sure how that will impact Rodri when CL starts. I can see it becoming a nightmare with Pep rotation.

Rodri started 34 PL games last season and is only 27. I think he's the most nailed starter outside of Haaland.

    0.3 itb 1FT

    Pickford
    Colwill Chilwell Estu
    Salah Saka Rashford Eze
    Jackson Haaland Pedro

    Turner Cash Kabore Anderson

    A) Roll
    B) Pedro > Archer (Fed up with Pedro now, benched Cash over him)

    Who do you guys prefer?
    Maddison or Sterling?
I was very big on Maddison since the start of the season but last week transferred him out because he was supposedly “injured”
But something just doesn’t sit right with me in bringing back a player I just sold, although the logic is absolutely wrong
Either way who do you guys think scores more in the next 5 weeks?

Got both and got rid of the confusion. For now I think Sterling with his dream fixtures and lower price gives more bang for the buck. Over the season I think Maddison will outscore him. I plan to keep Maddison as long as possible. Sterling goes in October
