GW1 BB. With a view to WC in GW4/ GW6.
Not spending a huge amount on bench.

        Flekken . Murillo Amad Barco

Just feel like getting the BB out of the way.

            Really?

Might draft you as a 4.0 then. Thinking here that there might actually be a percentage this time in my traditional GW3 strategy ( 😉 ) in that the transfer window has barely got underway and there'll be plenty of action post GW1 and the close of the window.

BB is overrated. We plan for a long time in the process restricting ourselves and our teams just to have a perfect bench boost and it just never turns out well.

For me I would be happy with a 10-15 points from that lot.

Other factor is we don't know what Mystery Chip means beyond that it is only playable post GW19.

Add in we also know that there will be fewer DGWs so potentially fewer opportunities to play BB and TC + MC which is likely DGW friendly too. So all in all I reckon there is a percentage in going early on BB if you're a gambling man.

    My team atm:

I'd like a Newcastle defender, yet if they get Guehi then that makes Burn and Hall risky.

Might just get some more expensive guys in like Porro, Schar, Gvardiol, Trent and Gabriel.

    1. Moderately content penguin
      • 6 Years

Alternative is just to get Guehi

Palace defence matched Newcastle last season and in fact are better in "recent form" under Glasner and fixtures quite okay. Not a very sexy choice of course but he's linked to genuine top 6 clubs too so could be the ultimate template© choice this year.

Munoz worth the extra 0.5 for a palace defender if you ask me.

          Agreed probs

Yet to set up really but as a Palace obsessive he's the only one I put in my initial draft. Doubt he'll remain the 4th most popular defensive option for long.

    Bottomed

Settled on this team with WC GW 6 pencilled in.

    0.5m in the bank.

    Sanchez - Fabianski
    Livramento - Mykolenko - Robinson - VdV - Barco
    Salah - Son - Martinelli - CHO - Winks
    Haaland - Isak - Muniz

Defence rotation is a treat. Attack is sorted.

Only iffy pick being Martinelli who can be Eze/Jota/Gordon but I want some Arsenal attack for the first 3 gws. Let’s see how Martinelli does in the next few games.

    GW 2 - Save FT
    GW 3 - Son ➡ Palmer
    GW 4 - Isak + Martinelli ➡ Watkins + Mitoma
    GW 5 - CHO ➡ Brereton Diaz
    GW 6 - WC

    Have I cracked it? 😀

May not fit your set up but I'd have 7.5 Mateta or 5.5 Kamada over Eze likely.

Think Mateta is probable talisman and you get pens - awkward he may not play 90 week 1 of course. Kamada has looked slightly lightweight preseason but does like a shot and has been scoring and is a Glasner player with a pedigree that matches anyone else in that bracket.

Will Eze still be at Palace Sept 1? Probably but not for sure and he won't have any preseason.

I will have ARS mid only for GW1 and then sell for Foden/KDB, whomever is more likely to start.

Would you risk it with Saka´s minutes or just go with Odegaard? Money is not an issue as I won´t have Haland or Salah.

No Palmer is the biggest issue for me. Otherwise, yes, very good.

    Pope - Flekken
    TAA - Porro - Konsa - Sugawara - Barco
    Son - Saka - Eze - Nkunku - Szoboszlai
    Isak - Watkins - Muniz

    - rotations generally work out nicely (on GK only against MCI, ARS, TOT, CHE, Pope is otherwise nailed in my team)
    - two planned transfers for GW1+2 (Saka + Porro > MCI assets)
    - expect to roll FTs in GWs 3 + 4 and have planned options after (but that will change anyway)
    - I have 1,5 ITB which will change to 2,0 when I sell Saka - to upgrade def to ARS or adapt to better performers, nevertheless, I do not feel like spending it

A few pointers that could help:
Planning transfers have a good chance of an epic fail. On top of this accumulating FT's in FW3/4 is a long time coming. Late arrivals and early injuries could hurt you.
Pope and Flekken is heavy duty rotation. Remember, Newcastle don't like away fixtures so much. Maybe save some money there.
I like the mids but thing about Slobo. He played deeper against Arsenal and Jota/Gakpo/Nunez and especially Diaz with Slot paying wide players vey wide could impact too. A wait and see with Pool IMO
Personally, I don't like Konsa like everyone else. Late back, no attacking threat and attack good for Villa rather than defense.
Just some pointers to help. Nobody will get a perfect team for GW1 and the few getting good score could create a gap with FT's mounting, TV rising when many will have to chase.

Thanks mate for the pointers, so nice of you.
        - Sure, those long-term ideas of whom I would buy after GW5 or so are not going to happen. But given I expect to need/want to use only 2 FT in first 4 GWs, I think I set up the team well.
        - Szobo. I am aware but Jota is a huge minutes risk and Diaz will probably hug the touchline and be as threatening as I would like him to be. I expect to have free transfer available, I could get rid of him if needed.
        - True, Konsa has little attacking threat but he is nailed on either RB or RCB position. He has good BPS projections (e.g. drew most of fouls of all defenders in the game last season) and Maatsen is wait and see for me with +0,5 price tag.

GKs are something I have to commit to. I want to play Pope all the time (I play wildcards late usually) but he has some tough games in first 8 and Flekken filled in the gaps for cheapest price.

There are at least 8 4.5 defenders better than Sugawara.

I can understand forgoing Haaland and Salah, but I think you'll really regret not having Palmer.

Palmer: I think Nkunku is just more valuable pick, despite lower ceiling (4 mil difference mate!)
Sugawara: Firstly, he will be benched most of the time, except games vs NFO(H), IPS (H) and LEI(H) when I need cover on third defender. His attacking profile is one of the highest in the game IMO (cheaper Munoz) and I do not think there are better options at 4,5 for those gameweeks:
        - CHE : no attacking threat, unimpressive defence, high rotation risk
        - BRE : do not fit rotation well + I cannot pick outstanding option
        - NFO : same as above
        - TOT : Van de Ven? I already have Porro and am swapping him for ARS/MCI defender in GW3 + low ceiling

I rate only Mykolenko pick or one of FUL boys, but decided to go with Sugawara. He is a complete wingback with no proper defensive skill, just looking to score. SOU seem to start with 3 at the back (6 CBs + offered money for one more) and he played both RB, RWB, RW (36 games as winger mate).

Some skewed by lower league (Az Alkmaar in Eredivisie):
4+7 and 3+8 (G+A) in last 2 seasons, 0,12 xG/90, 1,5 touches in the box /90, 1,2 shots /0, 32% of shots are on target, 0,2xA /90, 3,34 shot creating actions /90, on set pieces for Az Alkmaar, lots of progressive passing, represents Japan... I believe he is there to support attack, not to defend. I like him as a punt.

You've definitely given this plenty of thought. Maybe too much!

I tend to think that people have mistakenly flocked to Nkunku as a cheap Palmer, but Palmer's consistent excellence last season can't be covered with another Chelsea player. That said, I've come round to the potential value in Nkunku and so have both him and Palmer in my current drafts.

The biggest issue with Sugiwara is Southampton getting spanked. That means no bonus and minus points for goals conceded. You think you only need him for easy fixtures, you might not.

I would choose Robinson, Andersen or Burn instead, who give cover in 2, 5 and 8 with fixtures of LEI NEW AVL, WHU MUN nfo, or bou ful BHA and better teams/prospects/fixtures generally. Also Dunk or maybe a Leicester fullback.

But who knows, maybe Sugawara will be a revelation!

It is a hard one this season. With the clear disadvantage of losing BPS for each goal conceded, it impacts all defenders albeit cheap or expensive.
My mind is affected by likely clean sheets and that does not pan out for promoted clubs or teams that may struggle. (Include Everton who have been woeful to date and midfield, not just defenders can carry the blame).
All in all, premiums are negatively affected but will bet clean sheets. Raya and Saliba are good comparisons; Raya not getting saves and Saliba not getting bonus and .5 more expensive.
I think we have 2 choices. Firstly, to get 1 extra big hitter when the 6.5 mil and 7 mil players will be closer too them. Secondly, to go for attacking defenders and hope they get attacking returns with foul and shot BPS improving their claims.

With clean sheets in mind, yes, but attacking defenders could return at any time. I've skipped the Arsenal defence for now but I've gone for Porro and Gvardiol.

Strong enough without the popular two?

    Raya
    Trent - Gvardiol - Porro
    Son - Ødegaard - Fernandes - Jota - Johnson
    Isak - Havertz
    (Fabianski - Livramento - Hall - Cannon) (1m ITB)

    GW2: Fernandes/Ødegaard > Foden (C)

I’m trying to buy the annual premium membership that’s £39 but with the 40% offer in pre season. When I get to the final page it says £39 instead of £23.40. Has the pre season offer stopped?
