Chelsea squandered a two-goal lead against Leeds United on Tuesday, as Cole Palmer (£10.5m) somehow missed a sitter in stoppage time.

Here are our Scout Notes from Stamford Bridge.

ANOTHER PALMER PEN

Fresh from his hat-trick at Molineux, Palmer was once again busy pulling the strings for Chelsea on Tuesday.

With Enzo Fernandez (£6.9m) used from the left, just like he was in Gameweek 25, the pair would often switch positions, which meant the Blues could regularly overload the middle.

Palmer consequently found plenty of space between the lines in Liam Rosenior’s fluid 4-2-3-1 setup.

As for Enzo, he did a lot more defensive work than his teammate, but still racked up three shots and five chances created.

Above: Cole Palmer (left) and Enzo Fernandez’s (right) touch heatmaps v Leeds United

After his assist for Joao Pedro’s (£7.6m) opener, Palmer whipped in his third penalty in two matches.

It could have been more, too: Palmer missed a sitter in the final moments, somehow firing over from only a couple of yards out.

The miss had an expected goals (xG) value of 0.87:

PEDRO’S SHOTS

Pedro also caught the eye and was Chelsea’s leading shot-taker of the Gameweek.

The Brazilian fired the hosts into a 24th-minute lead from Palmer’s inch-perfect through ball. As was the case on Saturday, he also won a penalty for Palmer to convert.

That’s now nine attacking returns in five matches under Rosenior.

Pedro’s shooting really caught the eye on Tuesday, too.

He racked up seven shots in the box against Leeds, the most he’s ever had in a Premier League match.

It’ll no doubt interest a few prospective Pedro buyers in Gameweek 27, when Chelsea have a plum home fixture against Burnley.

“He’s a top player, he always has been. I know how hard, speaking to the guys, the club, worked to bring him to the club because he’s had that potential and he’s now starting to show that. Some of the play, some of the movements and the patterns in the first half was everything I wanted to see in the team.

“And Joao suits the way I want to play down to the ground. And even at the end, his energy levels, to create the chances for himself in the second half that he did, he was really unfortunate with the header. He’s showing me an energy and intensity and a quality that is of a really, really high level.” – Liam Rosenior on Joao Pedro, via Football London

CUCURELLA INJURY LATEST

Chelsea replaced Marc Cucurella (£6.1m) with Jorrel Hato (£4.6m) at half-time due to injury.

Rosenior said in his post-match presser that the Spaniard will now go for a scan on a potential hamstring issue.

“Unfortunately at half-time he felt his hamstring. It wasn’t a tactical change, it was one that was enforced. Cucu’s been top and hopefully he’ll be okay. We’ll scan him and make sure we find out if he’s available for the next game.” – Liam Rosenior on Marc Cucurella

Chelsea conceded twice after his departure, so they’ve now kept just one clean sheet in their last five matches.

Reece James (£5.7m), who Rosenior said was ill before this match, failed to make the matchday squad.

Elsewhere, Moises Caicedo (£5.7m) picked up his eighth booking of the season. Two more cautions before Chelsea contest their 32nd fixture will lead to a two-match ban.

WHY CALVERT-LEWIN MISSED OUT, BOGLE ‘OOP’

There was no place for Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.9m) in Leeds’ matchday squad at Stamford Bridge.

He missed out completely due to illness.

“Pascal Struijk, Dominic Calvert-Lewin sadly struggling with illness and Anton Stach, they are all key players for us. They all miss out.” – Daniel Farke

In his absence, Lukas Nmecha (£5.0m) led the line, with Jayden Bogle (£4.4m) – who scored against Nottingham Forest on Friday – pushed forward into an advanced role on the right wing.

From that position, Bogle was superb, claiming the assist for Leeds’ penalty after he was fouled by Caicedo. He was heavily involved in the equaliser, too.

“Thank god we saw today he could play on the right wing and also play in the pocket. We surprised Chelsea a little bit. If we didn’t concede such cheap goals we may have seen more of him. If the game went on for longer, we would have seen more from him going forward. I didn’t want to disrupt Justin and Bogle’s relationship. Jayden had never played that role, but my players have shown their tactical flexibility. Thank god it worked and for that all credit goes to them.” – Daniel Farke on Jayden Bogle

Meanwhile, centre-backs Joe Rodon (£3.9m) and Jaka Bijol (£3.9m) both banked defensive contribution (DefCon) points, the only players from either side to do so at the time of writing.

Evanilson is not exactly firing on all cilinders, but he's got WHU, SUN and BUR in the next 4.

As far as fixtures go, that's plum. Innit.

Had a look at your team too. I see why you want rid of DCL but 102 tv is the issue with going DCL to Thiago.
I don’t like losing anyone in your team to get DCL to Thiago. I would hold Semenyo and hope Thiago doesn’t go crazy
If you did lose a mid Mbeumo is another option to lose instead of Semenyo. Either way I would go Wilson as the replacement if you went that route.

Bored looking at what I can field in 31 as I want to keep the FH. Would keep Haaland Gabriel Timber and Rice and field 10. Can get to this with no hits if no injuries along the way.
Good enough to avoid using the FH in 31?

Thanks I will consider. Sunderland not as good away from home but that would mean a hit unless I left Sanchez in goal over Martinez.
Also I thought I had more value in Rice but actually bought at 7 and now 7.6 so only 0.3 loss

If you are taking out players with a fixture in 31 for players with a better fixture (such as Sanchez to Martinez) I would have a think about whether that transfer is more useful/valuable later. Both if you are on WC 32 and can carry transfers or even more so if you have used your WC and will need transfers to navigate blanks and doubles

    Roefs Dubravka

    BrunoF Mbeumo Semenyo Rogers Rice

1 FT. 1.8 ITB. BB FH TC left. WC21

    B) Rice to Wirtz, BB later. Bench who though? Currently Thiago(!) Hill(!!) Mukiele

Thats difficult I don’t mind A for the BB

D is tempting but Pedro is fine and Palmer can’t keep getting penalties and scoring from the only open play chance he gets. Having said that I hope he does as C is on him.
The question here is are you going to hold him if you get him and if not is it worth it for one week. I will get rid of Palmer in 28

Actually roll might be better you need FT to avoid FH in 31 with your current team.

The only attacking fixture for Chelsea that I'm hesitant about is Arsenal. Others are breachable. But the sensible thing would be to keep Pedro rather than doubling up now, yeah. Congrats on the hauls 🙂

I stayed away because of his fitness. Got Pedro, Mbeumo and Timber instead, so not lost much

        Cheers

Activated it soon after typing my options out. Allows me to focus funds on the XI, like converting my 7th & 8th attackers into a premium TC (Palmer?) & fodder, much further down the line

I haven't made the transfer yet though. It can wait until all pressers. Kelleher is far from a rise

Makes sense. I'm waiting until the FA Cup games are out of the way as I'm sure a few of my players will feature even if just from the bench. There could be some golden TC opportunities later. A possible Man City double or even Palmer v Forest or dare I say it Gyokores or Saka v relegated Burnley depending on the title race.

Is Palmer a keep from 28 onwards?
For me it's a toss up between keeping him or Etikite...

Early days but should be GTG unless injuries hit?

    Raya
    Gab/Timber/VVD
    BrunoF/Wirtz/Enzo/Sarr
    Haaland/Ekitike/JPedro(c)

    Dub/Potts/Heaven/Dorgu

Feel Muki should play being at home or stick?

    Kelleher
    Gabriel Timber Guehi
    BrunoF Rice Palmer Rogers
    Haaland JPedro Ekitike

    Dubravka HWilson Muki Hill

    0.1

2FT and 0.5 ITB. Who should I downgrade to enable DCL > Thiago? Cunha only played 68 mins last night and may be at risk of losing his place

    A - Pickford > Kelleher
    B - Cunha > Dango

    Pickford
    Gabriel - Timber - Munoz
    BrunoF - Enzo - Cunha - KDH - Rice
    Haaland - Ekitike - DCL

    Dub - Cunha - Gudmund - Andersen

Wouldn;t double up on Brentford. Can you afford Rogers?Sarr if not.

Cheers. Don't have an issue with the BRE double up. Kelleher looks like the one to get. Great fixtures and save points. I'm actually considering the triple and getting Dango later

      I like A

Doubt Cunha loses his spot to Sesko. At least let it happen first, then maybe Wirtz instead

Thanks. A sets up my GK, DEF and front 3 until 31 (although I may try and get Hill for Timber at some point as I start to lose BGW31 assets). I can then revamp my midfield from GW28 starting with Cunha (Wirtz), Enzo (Dango) and then Rice.

I've had Chalabah since a Gw6 wildcard and just in time for his minus 3 points!

After Burnley, is it time to chop the Chelsea defense?

And goalkeeper for those who went there too?

They've been terrible since Rosenior took over, looks like attack or nothing. I sold Sanchez this week to get Raya for the double, and took Chalobah out on my wc GW24.

I’m a fortunate Palmer owner and had him before the 20 pointer.

Would you look to keep him until the wildcard or still sell him before the Arsenal game and spread the funds?

Keep now for BUR obviously and then reassess after. Lots can happen.
