The Scout Squad returns ahead of Gameweek 2 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

In this article, our in-house team of Marc, Tom J (deputising for Sam), Tom F and Neale will discuss who they think the best FPL players are for the upcoming Gameweek in isolation.

MORE ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

Scout Squad Gameweek 1

The focus is only on the upcoming Gameweek with the Scout Squad, so there’s no medium-term planning involved.

The players who get the most votes are much more likely to make the Scout Picks, although the final XI can’t exceed £83.0m – so occasionally, we have to select cheaper alternatives.

Each of our writers must meet the following requirements for this feature:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

Short term it will be close imo - Saka Tzolis. Longer term Tzolis will likely be one to get rid of course. Just have to know when that is..

    Pick one:

    - O'Rielly
    - Gvardiol
    - Guehi

      Gvardiol

See, that's the logical answer. But Guehi is intriguing.

Even though he won't stay in that spot, he is likely more nailed than the others and is a real thread with that header from set piece. Gvardiol can contribute as well, but to expect him to score goals like GW1 those won't be as common imo. It's close, but Guehi may be worth the .5 more.

Initially thought O'Rielly was the one but hard to rely on a 6.5 million defender who may not even get 60 min.

    1. FH3 WC 6
    2. WC3 save FH
    3. Wildcard 2?

If you don't like your team and need min -12 hit to fix, WC.

      if you like it, 1.

I like most of the players but dont like the structure, too defensive and forward heavy, weak midfield. This is the team:

        Lammens Verbruggen
        Cala Palestra Vuskovic Hume Rodon
        Mbeumo Bruno Semenyo Tzolis Schade
        Havertz Pedro Isak

Wildcard in gameweek 3 too early? Would save transfers up to GW6 and save FH vs FH3 and WC6.

Sharing your team would help. I'm doing WC3 as a Non Haaland owner to ditch ManU assets, load up on City and Chelsea including Palmer (benched in GW3 ready for 4). It's a good strategy to save/roll transfers before the long IB and many Haaland owners will WC in 4 anyway and so 3 isn't much different really. Early WC3 also catches players ahead of price rises.

Play Cali & Tzolis and bench Ballard & DCL? Yay or nay?

    1. BR510
      1 hour, 44 mins ago

Yes, purely because Villa no longer looks like a formidable fixture and Arsenal look insane

Thanks. I am slightly wary of a Villa reaction with Emery in charge. He doesn't become a bad manager after one bad result

Ridiculous comment. After 1 game we have a small bit of information, but nowhere near enough to be righting off teams and crowning others. Villa got off to a bad start last season and then went on a good stretch from GW4.
Arsenal played a promoted team at home, Villa played a good Brighton team away. Granted Villa were poor, but they are still trying hard in the transfer market to reshape their squad. Should we right off Palace, Man U and Spurs?
There’s a lot still going on in the transfer market, squads will change and teams will evolve, this is why patience is needed.

Thanks. Most are advocating starting Cali and Tzolis but I just have a hunch Villa might be dangerous after last week and Ballard could do well in this one and has goal threat

If one can afford, there is no denying the appeal of VVD in right now. Yes you can cheap out with other Pool coverage but won't likely hit Defcon like VVD.

Could see couple goals and cleanies over next 4.

I hope so but that midfield is offering no protection and they are playing basketball as a strategy

    New strategy is
GW3.Maybe Haaland TC will decide after GW2
GW4 should have triple Che -Pedro Palmer Rogers, triple Ars, 1 or 2 pool and city including Haaland. About 5 total Newcastle Everton and Even Fulham
GW 5 BB and it nothing goes pear shaped should have a few FT’s if needed
    Any thought on this?

I’m right in thinking that I keep the free transfers I’ve saved up the week after a wildcard right? Or do your transfers always go back to one after a wildcard regardless?

Say you made no transfer and WC in GW4 in GW5 you will still have 3FT you don’t get one for the week you WC
