Manchester United bounced back with a ruthless 5-2 win over Ipswich Town on Sunday. Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) scored a hat-trick, with Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) also on the scoresheet.

Here are our Scout Notes from Old Trafford.

BRUNO HAT-TRICK

Bruno Fernandes delivered 23 points in Sunday’s win over Ipswich, his best-ever FPL score in a single match.

Transferred out by over 244,000 managers ahead of Gameweek 2, the Portuguese playmaker netted a hat-trick, supplied an assist and, of course, claimed the maximum bonus.

In a superb all-round display, Fernandes racked up eight shots and three chances created.

Above: Bruno Fernandes’ shot map v Ipswich

After Fernandes had ruthlessly punished Marcelino Nunez’s (£5.0m) slip in the first-half, he later added a second from the penalty spot, sending Kjell Scherpen (£4.5m) the wrong way.

Remember, he had previously missed a couple of spot-kicks in pre-season, so this was the best way to dispel any uncertainty.

Fernandes completed his hat-trick with a tidy finish after Mbeumo’s initial shot had been blocked.

MBEUMO ENCOURAGEMENT

But Fernandes still wasn’t finished.

He later provided the assist for Mbeumo’s strike, picking out his run with a lovely pass.

Mbeumo himself came away from this match with 11 points. But it could have been more, having earlier somehow missed from two yards out from Marcus Rashford’s (£7.0m) cross. That chance had an expected goals (xG) total of 0.92!

Still, this was a very good performance from United in the end, certainly from an attacking perspective, as they opened Ipswich up at will in the second half.

Next up for United is a trip to Everton. The Toffees have conceded more big chances than any other side in the first two Gameweeks.

Kobbie Mainoo (£5.5m) meanwhile impressed in the middle of the park and banked 14 defensive contributions (DefCon).

Rashford looked sharp down the left flank, too.

“He was very, very good for a first start back. We’ve managed him a little bit and we’ve got good midfielders so, it’s about trying to make the best of the combinations. I understand Bruno getting a lot of credit today, and he deserves that as well, but I thought Kobbie was immense in the middle of the pitch for us and underpinned the performance of the team.” – Michael Carrick on Kobbie Mainoo

IS SHAW INJURED?

It was a difficult afternoon for Luke Shaw (£4.5m), however.

He struggled to deal with Ipswich winger Abdul Fatawu (£5.5m), and was later substituted off in the 73rd minute.

Prior to that, he looked in a bit of discomfort, with some suggesting he had picked up a knock. However, we’ve not heard anything from the player himself or Carrick to support this.

United had the firepower to get themselves out of trouble on Sunday, but conceding four goals in two matches is a concern.

Harry Maguire (£5.0m) did at least emerge with four points, thanks to his deflected second-half finish.

ENCISO LIVELY, EMERSONN INJURY

Julio Enciso (£5.5m) was once again the best player on the pitch for Ipswich on Sunday.

He supplied the assist (his second of the season) for substitute Chuba Akpom’s (£5.0m) late strike, having previously missed a one-on-one.

Still, Enciso and Ipswich showed good attacking intent in the first half, having taken a surprise lead through Leif Davis (£4.0m), who could have added a second shortly after.

However, after Emersonn (£5.5m) was taken off at half-time due to a knee injury, the situation quickly deteriorated, with Jacob Greaves (£4.0m) scoring an own goal and conceding a penalty.

“We’re hopeful it’s not serious. It was like a landing and a jarring of it, so it was a bit too painful for him to carry on. That was a blow, of course. But we’re hopeful that it’s not going to be anything too serious. I’m hoping that when we get in tomorrow and when he’s checked, he’s feeling a bit better. Same again on Tuesday, there’ll be some more checks. It could be anything at this stage, but with the initial signs, we’re hopeful.” – Gary O’Neil on Emersonn, via TWDT

In a much-needed boost, new arrival Exequiel Palacios (£5.0m) was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Ipswich will need to dust themselves down quickly, with their next game on Friday against Liverpool in the Gameweek 3 curtain-raiser.

Presently have a draft midfield of Mbuemo, Wirtz, H Wilson, I Sarr and Stach. Suffice to say it isn't going well. Bringing Gross in for Sarr but what should I do with my Leeds midfield double up.

Is it worth doing Wilson to Lewis-Potter?

I wouldn’t make that move. Who else is available? If Lewis-Potter is one of the best options, I’m guessing options are scarce and you’ve got the maximum eight teams in the league?

9 teams so yes. Forwards currently Barry, Richarlison and Georgino. Definitely making the Gross move, other available midfielders are Scott, Ndoye and Gomez.

It sounds like you think I should keep hold of the Leeds midfield double?

Am also thinking Dedic for Van Hecke.

That Konsa price drop is useful for those of us who missed the Cherki rise. For me that would allow Mbeumo + Van Ewijk to Cherki + Konsa for free. I won’t do it yet but one to consider

Didn’t even notice he’d dropped, but that’s a welcome change to slot in Cherki indeed! Or player I’m eyeing is Rogers in GW4, so I may be using two other transfers to free up funds or just WC4.

Good start with 96 points, but thinking of WC to assault the fixtures

    Current team:
    Verbruggen, Kinsky
    Caliafiori, Maguire, Muharemovic, Davis, Hume
    Bruno, Mbeumo, Sangare, Tzolis, Ndiaye
    Haaland, JP, DCL

WC idea, first draft (0.2 ITB)
    Hornicek, Dubravka
Caliafiori, De Cuyper, Tark, Egan, Dedic
    Palmer, Cherki, Sangare, Tzolis, MGM
    Haaland, JP, Wissa

I’d say roll and use 3FT to get more Chelsea attack in from GW4. Going for City players is only short term gain against Coventry.

      For instance for GW4:
Mbeumo > Rogers + Shaw > Konsa/Mykolenko/Dedic + Kinsky > Trafford or another decent 5.0 goalie since you already have Van Hecke.

Alternatively you could try to get to Palmer, but that would require to find 1.5M + Mbeumo, most likely downgrading DCL to 4.5 bench fodder.

So ya time for some humble pie, Should not have WC into week 2. Went too early as was certain Haaland would score and was the best captain and feared United would struggle hugely (looked very likely until that slip!), In the end even with Haaland scoring I would have been up 15 points and at 15k rank and not at current 150k and still have a WC and week 3 would have been fine below with 2FTS used.

This would have been Week 3 no wildcard team after easily flipping Bruno + Isak to Haaland + Gross for 2FTS.

Agree on MGW...tempting to take a hit and get MGW, Konsa and Cherki for Mbeumo, White and Schade. But the original 3 could easily outscore the new bunch on their day so not risking it. Just like that home Spurs fixture for MGW.

Cherki’s interview in which he said that Maresca was going to take him off at half time but he begged him to stay on the pitch bit longer.

He scored - he stayed but let’s be honest that doesn’t sound like he’s secure starter especially considering GW1 benching.

He’s one poor display away from being benched again.

Because Utd now have a tricky run of fixtures and I don't see Mbeumo getting the same returns that he did v Ipswich. Utd won't score 5 goals every week, so for me Bruno is probably the only asset you need going forward. I have Mbeumo and I'm selling him for either Cherki or Foden.

Why are Liverpool selling Gakpo… Barcola could take ages to adapt, look at what happened with Wirtz, Isak etc. they have lost Salah and are playing Rio and co on the right

      Balancing the books

      It's all a bit odd

The transfer market is nuts at the moment

How would you approach a FH this week?
    3x City
    2-3x Pool
    2-3x City
    2-3x Brighton
1x Forest/Fulham/Hull/Spurs etc for the bench
    How does that sound?

Mbeumo + Semenyo -> Bruno + Slater looks tempting. But surely gotta keep Semenyo before Coventry?

Yeah, plan is to do Mbeumo -> Cherki this GW. Then do Semenyo + Cherki -> Bruno + Slater in GW5.

How are other people without Bruno dropping only 5k to 160k while I dropped from 215k to 2.9m?

      Because you weren't at 5k.

Check the points difference by rank tier, Live FPL has it.

I had mBuemo. Plus there was probably a big margin between being 5k and being 215k.

I was ranked 600 overall friday evening mind and 3k when the match kicked off. A weekend for the ages not having bruno. Still only 20 points of top 10k so now all lost

Happy with my 116 points so far, but FPL transfer market is too unstable for my taste. Looking to get Chelsea assets in, in particular Rogers from GW4. Is this going to be a WC or something FT’s can solve?

    Raya, Kinsky

      Just play it steady.

Le Fee then Kinsky are the only obvious issues there.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Kinsky will go down in value as well. Ballard and Maguire also look like potential sells.

      None of them

It's just been knee jerk United around these parts, since a week last Friday.

There's loads of routes to points...

And MGW might be the missing player there!
