Hull v Aston Villa team news: One change apiece

Hull City v Aston Villa rounds off the day’s Premier League action.

Kick-off on Humberside is at 17:30 BST.

If you’d said before the start of the season that one of these teams would be boasting a 100% record and two clean sheets after Gameweek 2, and the other would be pointless and goalless, most of us would have thought the hosts would be languishing at the foot of the Premier League table.

Instead, a three-goal win tonight moves the Tigers to the top of the division. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

TEAM NEWS

It’s one change apiece at the MKM Stadium.

Hull’s Sergej Jakirovic makes one alteration in midfield, bringing in one summer signing, Lucas Gourna-Douath, for another, Hidemasa Morita.

Deadline-day captures Christos Mouzakitis, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Robinio Vaz and Sorba Thomas are all on the bench.

And, as happened in Gameweek 2, all of Hull’s first-choice bargain-bin defenders shrug off knocks and niggles to start.

Unai Emery’s only tweak sees Tyrone Mings come in for Pau Torres at centre-back.

One of Villa’s own deadline-day signings, Ibrahim Mbaye, is among the substitutes.

£4.5m midfielder George Hemmings starts again.

LINE-UPS

Hull City XI: Tzolakis, Coyle, Egan, Mendy, Ajayi, Giles, Belloumi, Slater, Gourna-Douath, Stroud, McBurnie.

Subs: Phillips, Thomas, Hjerto-Dahl, Norton-Cuffy, Herrington, Targett, Mouzakitis, Vaz, Cho.

Aston Villa XI: Suzuki, Cash, Lindelof, Mings, Maatsen, Barkley, Kamara, Buendia, McGinn, Jackson, Hemmings.

Subs: Bizot, Ruggeri, Torres, Garnacho, Abraham, Mbaye, Bogarde, Wan-Bissaka, Alysson.

Enzo Maresca: "Ili [Ndiaye] just had two sessions. He needs to understand how to move. Most of the time he was moving the wrong way, wrong position. But again, he needs to learn, and for sure he's going to learn...

"When Marc Guehi had the ball, he was dropping a lot. We don't need that. We need him in the last third so he can be a little higher. That space was more for Josko Gvardiol. It's the same this side; when [Abdukodir] Khusa had the ball, sometimes Antoine [Semenyo] was dropping, but Antoine has to stretch. That space is for Enzo [Fernandez]. But it's normal. With time they're going to learn the way we want them to play...

(That's where the goal came from!) "Exactly: Enzo wide, and then Antoine receiving in-behind, and we score..."

Seeing Hull I’m contemplating FH 4 as I want Isak (c)

    Anyone tempted?

    Henderson
    Calafiori - White - James
    Bruno - Palmer - Saka - Gakpo - Szoboszlai
    Isak - Pedro

    Looks unreal. NGL.

Back to our good teams with Haaland (c) in GW 5.

63 on FH with just Bruno to go. Hit a lot of decisions wrong and simple silly in hindsight. Double Brentford defence I can deal with. Robinson was a mad call even with the Palace injuries in attack. Foden being benched was annoying and his cameo blocking my Egan 1st sub. Most players have 3-4 players to go due to Arsenal v Chelsea

Most players on about 30 points though. I FH and am on 55 with Saka left. Would be on 64 albeit for last min swaps before the deadline but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Still on a big green arrow, up to around 30k currently, that will come down a little way with tomorrow’s games but probably not too much? (He says hopefully)

Hull don’t concede goals because their keeper has been great and they’ve been lucky.

Their xGC is awful, it won’t be long before they’re found out. Remember Huddersfield…

I was at the game. He was pretty poor, but so were the whole team hence the triple change at half time. Poor challenge for the yellow, his passing was off too, hence the sub. No sign of an injury, just the yellow and poor form.

I don't think he'll be benched next week, but Yarmo was a lot better when he came on so there is a risk. I'll be hiding him on my bench to be safe, which isn't a problem for someone I bought for 5.5

FH4 could work. I don’t feel the fixtures are quite as targetable as they were this week but that Fulham game looks good. Just bear in mind Isak didn’t put up much xG vs Ipswich. He did in the other games when everyone was hating on him though…
