You may be having to move early to beat the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price rises, putting together a Wildcard or activating a Free Hit. Or, quite simply, you can’t wait to ‘kneejerk’ out a certain dud.

But if you’re one of those FPL managers who like to eliminate the risks associated with an early transfer, it’s worth mentioning that 12 Premier League teams are in action before we get to Gameweek 4.

Injuries can and often do crop up whenever there are midweek games, while UEFA Champions League or EFL Cup teamsheets may give us a few clues as to a Premier League manager’s intentions for the weekend.

With that in mind, here’s when the domestic and European fixtures take place this week.

TUESDAY 8 SEPTEMBER

FPL notes: Jaissle on Fernandez-Pardo's fitness + Wissa deeper midweek Premier League

  • 17:45 – Club Brugge v ASTON VILLA (Champions League)
  • 19:45 – BOURNEMOUTH v Lincoln City (EFL Cup)
  • 19:45 – CRYSTAL PALACE v Middlesbrough (EFL Cup)
  • 19:45 – SUNDERLAND v HULL CITY (EFL Cup)
  • 20:00 – Porto v MANCHESTER CITY (Champions League)
  • 20:00 – Millwall v NEWCASTLE UNITED (EFL Cup)

WEDNESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER

FPL notes: Odegaard “great” + Mosquera injury latest 4

  • 20:00 – CHELSEA v LEEDS UNITED (EFL Cup)
  • 20:00 – LIVERPOOL v Atletico Madrid (Champions League)
  • 20:00 – Napoli v ARSENAL (Champions League)

THURSDAY 10 SEPTEMBER

Bruno Fernandes

  • 20:00 – MANCHESTER UNITED v Sabah (Champions League)

MIDWEEK OFF

FPL notes: De Cuyper + Hinshelwood hauls, Villa injury latest midweek Premier League

  • EVERTON
  • FULHAM
  • IPSWICH TOWN
  • NOTTINGHAM FOREST
  • TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

TURNAROUND TIMES

action Premier League

Thanks to the wonderful Legomane, we can see the turnaround times from these midweek fixtures to Gameweek 4. We’ve also included up to Gameweek 5, which is the final round of Premier League matches before the first international break.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have the dreaded Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday turnaround ahead of Gameweek 4. In the Blues’ case, they’re only in EFL Cup action, although it’s worth pointing out that Xabi Alonso went strong in the last round. He handed 90 minutes to Cole Palmer (£9.6m), while Reece James (£5.4m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.6m) both got starts. James was subsequently benched in Gameweek 2.

Liverpool have a quick turnaround from Atletico to Fulham: there are only 65 hours between full-time in one and kick-off in the other. Still, they’ve had a nice long run-up to their Champions League tie, having been in action on Friday.

At the other end of the scale, Manchester City (Tuesday-Sunday), Newcastle United (Tuesday-Monday) and Leeds United (Wednesday-Monday) have favourable turnarounds from midweek to Gameweek 4.

Stay tuned for team news today and tomorrow from the pre-match press conferences ahead of these midweek fixtures.

Most likely (c) JPedro/Haaland. Would you start Tzolis over DCL or Gomez? Keep FT or maybe sell Tzolis, else...?

    Verb/Kinsky
    Gvardiol/Calafiori/Ajer
    Bruno/Cherki/Szobo/Tzolis/Gomez
    Haaland/JPedro/DCL

    Kinsky/Tzolis/Rodon/Diop

depends how many mins he gets vs Napoli. If he plays that game Eze could easily come in

I think Eze will play vs Napoli - a bit telling that he didn't make it off the bench after a good cameo vs Villa

Konsa’s slide tackle to stop Rodgers in 2nd is enough to keep him as a starter.
Mosquera wouldn’t be able to do that.

Which defender is the best to have on a gwk 4 wildcard?

    A) Thiaw (less chance of rotation but low upside)
    B) Dedic (cheapest and high upside but most at risk of losing out to Livramento when he's fully fit)
    C) Hall (probably the highest upside of all but the most expensive and came off for Livramento in the 2nd half v Bournemouth).

    1. The Tonberry

If you can afford it Hall. If money is tight then Dedic

    Isak - Pedro

    Do it or not?

    1. Big Mike

It all depends on what your original team looks like from gwk 4 onwards. If it doesn't look great then wildcarding would probably be a better choice.

I stuck to my guns, made no transfers, TC on Haaland. Bagged 63 points but left 15 on my bench. Neco Williams having a goal disallowed was frustrating, and I chose the wrong keeper.

Still, that moves me up to 20k globally having ignored most of the FPL online chatter, which was an achievement in itself.

My single top tip this week is to not rush any transfers, despite the risk of price rises and falls. I almost fell for that trap last week as Cherki continued to rise and I held on to Mbeumo.

The combined score of 8 points from my 5 players in the Arsenal-Chelsea match was particularly disappointing.

Managed to back up last weeks 124 point BB with a 64 point TC week and up to 142k OR. Great start so far!

Haaland(tc) the main scorer, Kinsky, Gvardiol, Kerkez, Mbuemo the other scorers.

Taken the bold move of making three trades overnight to avoid Dorgu and Kerkez price drops even though Kerkez has a nice fixture I couldn't afford three players going down this week.

    9. Utopsis

Smooth: 53 points. Haaland (TC) not bad but not great either. Ignored the Tzolis overreaction.

Rough: Le Fee (8) out for Sangare (0), plus he wiped out the clean sheet for Ajer.

FH fail with 52 points, just about 5 more than my regular team was a bit rough.

Smoother than 91 points last week, I thought that I got a green arrow in most leagues. However, that must have been pre auto subs, just checked again and a marginal red OR.

Relatively speaking, got away with one and survived the first big TC week.

The top eleven after Gameweek 2 in the FFS Live Hall of Fame all played a chip in Gameweek 3:
5 Free Hits (average 54 points), 2 Triple Captains (average 51) and 4 Wildcards (average 41).

I actually think both would be a great double option.

Two players that seem to be nailed on starters for the best team in the league.

Defence seems a bit unpredictable and what is starting now won't be what is selected when all players are fit.

If both Tzolis and Odergaard play 60+ minutes, you get 2 clean-sheet points anyway. So 50% of what a defensive pick might choose, but with significantly higher GI opportunities.

They were my two Gw2 transfer options and I made the wrong choice.

Not likely to reverse it, see what injuries occur and issues in the cup matches this week.

Depends on your team and where else that 2m will be spent.

Palmer the better FPL pick with more routes to points for sure

Is a Liverpool attacker "essential" for their fixture at home to Fulham on the weekend?!

    1. vova
      1 month, 16 days ago

I would want to have Isak but no other Liverpool attacker appeals too much to me.

    2. Rbyrne95

No. But could be ‘slight’ differential compared to Joao Pedro & Haaland even with prices rice. (could even try fit all 3 for something just different)

I didn't think so, until I noticed the scorers for Palace. Mitchell scored twice down the Palace left, having only ever scored 2 before. I know one goal was a bit lucky... Then he was subbed off for Chilwell, who proceeded to score with his first touch.

Castagne kept drifting up the pitch and appeared to be lacking defensive discipline.

Cody Gakpo, playing in a similar position for Liverpool, has a huge potential to return this weekend as a result. He is not only in form as the top scoring player in the entire game, he also will still be keen to prove himself to the fans after it appeared he would be leaving the club a week ago.

Correct. But most (including myself) were willing to accept that risk vs Coventry at the Etihad.

Not so sure in other fixtures, hence the difference in my opinion in WC vs non-WC

FUL have the 3 promoted teams & ManU at home after Liverpool. Makes any sense to go Garcia or Josh King? Or is just waiting for their coach to be sacked, thus stay away.... ?

    1. Haa-lala-land
      1 month, 16 days ago

Unless Fulham show something against Liverpool then I think we should be using our cheap enablers from those promoted teams and targeting Fulham
      I like Josh King though.

Thoughts on this WC draft please:

    Martinez Bentley
    Cala Konsa Muha Thiaw Egan
    Palmer Saka Gakpo KDH Gomez
    Haaland Pedro Wissa

I like the look of Chelsea and their fixtures hence the Martinez set and forget
Also think KDH is a potentially nice differential with good Everton fixtures
Gomez could go down to a 4.5 but he rotates nicely when Thiaw/Muha/KDH have tough fixtures

    1. Utopsis
      1 month, 16 days ago

Martinez cannot be considered set and forget - that Chelsea defence will keep you remembering.

I like KDH, good player and always in and amongst Everton's best play.

Saka to Odegaard probably allows you to upgrade Wissa to Isak? Food for thought.

      1. Alisson WondHaaland
        1 month, 16 days ago

Yeah fair point on Martinez, it's partiallty a bet on good fixtures + Alonso drilling his team better

And yeah Saka to Odegaard is tempting for sure

    2. GreennRed
      1 month, 16 days ago

Don't think Chelsea will consistently keep many cleansheets for a while yet though they've no European games so more time to improve their defence and Caicedo due back on the 12th. Raya will still be top FPL keeper, worth the extra.
