Dugout Discussion – Burnley vs Newcastle

The Gameweek finale falls on Turf Moor, for a Monday night encounter under the lights between Burnley and Newcastle United.

Fantasy interest is limited, in the main, to the defensive players on show. That’s a good thing scanning the statistics building up to this match.

Sean Dyche’s Clarets have scored the fewest home league goals this season, with just two efforts. But his defence have been typically miserly: only Liverpool and Manchester United have allowed fewer goals than the two conceded by Burnley.

Meanwhile, Newcastle arrive boasting just three away goals, only Everton and Crystal Palace have scored fewer.

Their goalkeeper, Rob Elliot, is the most owned player on show this evening. Now part of 26.4% of squads, the Magpies custodian trails only David De Gea (39.2%) in that respect. However, some 62% of Elliot’s 1.4 million owners keep him on the bench for Gameweek 10.

Stephen Ward has become the go-to option in the Burnley defence. The left-back is now owned by 14.7% of managers having already produced a goal and two assists this season, alongside three clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He's a great player, but playing in Kane's place as a like-for-like means that Spurs have to completely change their forward play - getting the ball quickly to the channels rather than playing on Trippier and Eriksen playing perfect crosses for Kane or Alli arriving from deep. I'm sure they train multiple systems but it will take a while for them to adapt.

I’m not in the know but my guess would be that the rules have been tweaked this season for high-owned players above their original price. The drop threshold for these used to be relatively low in previous seasons as a % of owners - maybe now its higher, which would explain, to a certain extent, why The likes of Kane/Lukaku are seemingly taking longer to drop. FPL Statistics still have Lukaku in the minus 90’s so it would appear they have a handle on it.

Yeah sure loads of sales but aren't people getting him in also? I mean he outscored Jesus so people who don't use this community for info maybe think Lukaku is the striker they want. If you look at the nettransfer can't say "loads" of sales actually

          1. Darklord_bg
            • 8 Years
            7 years, 12 days ago

Also new players are joining constantly and getting him in their teams.

He hasn't been sold that much (-249,616 last round) and he already dropped once the Friday before last.

Currently he has 2,770,776 owners, which is the same as in GW 6 (2,816,943) when he cost 11.7 as well.

In short - no need for him to fall, unless there is a massive sale.

I was just thinking about the Ake vs Daniels conundrum.

Let's assume a clean sheet guarantees 3 BPs to Ake. And a goal or assist guarantees 3 BPs to both.

The next 5 games, you would expect 3 clean sheets, and at least 2 assists from Daniels.
That means Ake ends up with 9 'extra' points, Daniels ends up with at least 12 of those.

Make sense to get Daniels then?

Not really attacking this season either. 6 goals in 10 games? Only Palace are worse.

They are pretty much completely crap - I would not expect anything from them.

Of course that does not mean they still can not produce, just it will be surprising based on their current form.

Puel played both Targett and McQueen (Saints left backs) as left wingers a couple of times pre-season and in one opener but then never started either of them and only played them as subs a couple of times so don't read too much into it.

Difficult to say: Jones, Kane for sure then the rest is open for me.., maybe Silva...

If you pick that WC template what is suggested over here then you do have almost the same team as most of the players have. Which means Kane, Jones, Salah, Richarlison, Lukaku, Abraham, Otamendi, (Silva or Sane) and (Carroll or RLC) Azpi/Luiz included. I don't know if there is anything wrong with that. Just think that there should be some differentials also...

    Hi lads,
Given this team, what do you think is more pressing ?

    Elliot / Foster
    Alonso Hegazi Davies (Suttner* Mbemba*)
    Eriksen Coutinho* Choupo Carroll (Mooy)
    Kane* Jesus Firmino

    0.6 ITB, 1 FT

Probably the most logical is to wait for pressers and replace Kane/Coutinho by a MCI player ?
I also need to take car about Suttner that does not play anymore, otherwise it hurts when Davies doesnt play.

currently my 5th mid. He's perfect bench fodder if you own two or 3 city attackers

if city attacker gets rested you have RLC to save your gw. πŸ˜‰

Had a dreadful week, probably my worst in all of my years doing this. I was at 15 points before last nights game. How can I get back on track for this week with the below? 1 FT £0.1 ITB

    Elliot (Forster)
Monreal / Ward / Otamendi (Duffy / Wimmer)
Choupo / KDB / Ritchie / Richarlison (Stephens)
    Kane / Morata / Aguero

    Thanks!

Things I don't like: Monreal, Forster, Wimmer, Ritchie, KDB

Things worth changing: Monreal, Ritchie (and KDB if you need funds for upgrades)

A simple Monreal to Daniels/Jones could work

You re too heavy up front imo and too weak in midfield so decrease morata or aguero and upgrade Ritchie or choupo. Abraham is a good option up front .

Whilst the suggestions are valid, up front and midfield are basically all the same thing. Having 2 big strikers and one extra mid compared to 3 big strikers is much and the same tbh.

Premium mids are better value than the premium strikers, but also the budget/medium mids are better than the budget strikers, so it just comes down to each individual choice.

Thing is you spend 11.8m on aguero who is not guaranteed a start .good luck πŸ™‚

    Elliot - Foster
    Jones - Stones - Cedric - Dunk - Naughton
    Eriksen - Salah - Sterling - Ritchie - Carroll
    Kane - Morata - Joselu

Feel like I need a WC but I used it already. What are the biggest concerns here? I have 1.7 ITB. I feel like Foster and Cedric should be the first men to go.

Foster to speroni and Cedric to 3.9! defender ( I assume you rotate dunk and naughton) then upgrade Ritchie or joselu ?

You can save your FT this week then in ib Cedric the first one to get rid of. Cedric to Daniels/Francis/Mee and upgrade Joselu or Ritchie...

A or C, Depends bit of your defence. Alonso could still be good choice has attacking threat and Chelsea will probs get many CS until the end of year...

btw. Rooney has done quite nicely collecting 40points if you comparing how Everton has played overally
