The Premier League have belatedly revealed a number of rescheduled fixtures to confirm Double Gameweek 34.
However, the news is not quite what many had anticipated, with only eight teams set to play twice.
Indeed, just one of the matches postponed in Gameweek 31 due to FA Cup matches – Burnley vs Chelsea – has so far been rescheduled.
This is joined by three matches shifted out of Gameweek 35 for similar reasons – Brighton vs Spurs, Bournemouth vs Man United and Leicester vs Southampton.
Essentially, then, the eight sides facing a Double Gameweek 34, and their subsequent schedules, are as follows.
Confirmed Double Gameweek 34 schedule
Bournemouth (liv MUN)
Brighton (cry TOT)
Burnley (LEI CHE)
Chelsea (sot bur)
Leicester (bur SOT)
Man United (WBA bou)
Southampton (CHE lei)
Spurs (MCI bha)
Of the eight, Burnley are the only side to play two home matches in this round.
Up against Leicester and Chelsea at Turf Moor in Gameweek 34, though, Sean Dyche’s men hardly have it easy. Indeed, they are one of three teams – along with Bournemouth and Southampton – to face top eight opponents on both occasions.
However, Burnley are the only Double Gameweek 34 outfit to also play in Gameweek 35, when they make their way to Stoke.
Meanwhile, Man United are the only side to go up against opponents outwith the top eight, while just one team – Chelsea – hit the road on two occasions.
As a result of today’s announcement, the following matches still require a new date.
Chelsea vs Huddersfield
Leicester vs Arsenal
Man City vs Brighton
Swansea vs Southampton
Tottenham vs Newcastle
West Ham vs Man United
The Premier League have confirmed that these will be rescheduled by Tuesday April 3 – before Gameweek 33 – though it is anticipated that 12 teams will now face a Double Gameweek 37.
We will have more reaction and analysis of the implications on today’s announcement later, with a series of articles over the next week ahead of the Gameweek 32 deadline on Saturday March 31.
