Fantasy Eliteserien 2018 – Gameweek 5 Preview

Gameweek 4 served up a bumper set of double fixtures, with many Eliteserien managers racking up some huge scores. Another round of double encounters looms in Gameweek 6 but ahead of that we have some respite with this weekend and Monday’s single collection of matches.

Even though this set of fixtures is sandwiched between two pivotal Gameweeks, it should still offer Fantasy managers plenty of opportunity to accrue points.

Gameweek 5 matches

IK Start – Vålerenga
(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)
After a brilliant opening match at home against Tromsø, Start have lost two games in a row. Despite scoring only one goal in those two, Start have looked like a team capable of scoring goals. Kabran looks like the major threat, while Floki seems to be nailed on up front. Sigurdarson is on most set pieces, but has been the first player to be subbed out of the front players.

Vålerenga will hope to bounce back after a terrible game against Strømsgodset. Johnson is worth monitoring going forward.

Molde – Lillestrøm
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Molde had a terrible game against Rosenborg and were put down to earth again. With two scrappy wins against Haugesund and Tromsø in the previous gameweeks as well there are question marks over how good they are. Rotation is likely as well after last gameweeks horror show. Linde should still be a safe pick. Lehne Olsen and Knudtzon have been among the top scorers over the first four gameweeks, and are being overlooked by a lot due to the double gameweeks. This is probably not the best week to bring them in, but long term they are definitely viable options.

Ranheim – FK Haugesund
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Ranheim pulled an impressive comeback late against Sandefjord away and secured their second win in three games. Neither team looked particularly impressive though, and Ranheim were also tore apart by Tromsø in their first game in the previous gameweek. Tønne still looks like a great option, he was just inches away from scoring against Sandefjord after going around the goalkeeper.

Haugesund have enjoyed a surprisingly good start to the season and have given us a few good options. Akintola currently looks like the prime pick, as he’s been involved in most of their goals and has caught our eye with his great dribbling.

Sandefjord – Kristiansund BK
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Sandefjord still looks like prime candidates to go down, despite their 1-4 win away against Start in Gameweek 3. Last time out they were incredibly lucky to get a draw against Stabæk at home, before they gave away a 1-0 lead at home against Ranheim. We can’t see any Sandefjord assets worth keeping.

Kristiansund played a cynical away game against Brann and almost got away with a point. Their defensively minded approach could mean McDermott is the prime pick from the 4.5 bracket. Gjertsen surprisingly missed out with an injury, he’s worth monitoring. Stokke is also back for Kristiansund.

Stabæk – Tromsø
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
This tie includes two of the most interesting Eliteserien teams right now. Stabæk’s Ohi should be a prime option ahead of the double in Gameweek 6, as should Brochmann who scored his first goal of the season against Sandefjord. They also offes a bunch of budget options, like Vetlesen (4.4) who have been given a more advanced role as a wide central midfielder in a 4-3-3 instead of a holding midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 and Granli (4.0) who seems to have nailed down the right back spot and is also on corners from the left hand side.

As last year, Tromsø was the team who delivered most points during the double Gameweek. Playing attractive attacking football, they scored seven goals over the two fixtures. Åsen was the man of the week with a monster 30 point haul, scoring two, assisting three and three bonus in both games. Antonsen, their out of position defender playing in midfield, scored one and assisted one, while wingback Nilsen also got a goal. Berntsen is emerging as the prime budget pick, as the 5.0 midfielder is fielded up front and looks to be in great form. After assisting a goal in his debut against Molde, he scored a goal and picked up a total of five bonus points over the double. A honorable mention to Gamst, who had two great games from his holding midfield role, and picked up three bonus points.

Strømsgodset – Odd
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Strømsgodset are a team we are struggling to place right now. They played a perfect away game against Vålerenga in a 4-1 win, before they were completely outplayed by Tromsø in a 1-3 loss. Pedersen looks like he’s capable of winning the golden boot, while we had two disappointing games from the prime midfielders Jradi and Ulland Andersen.

Odd got their first win of the season against Bodø/Glimt after a brilliant Ruud free kick, but still doesn’t look like a team likely to score a lot of points. Kitolano still a good pick at 4.5, while Risa is worth monitoring as he’s starting up front in the absence of Børven.

Sarpsborg 08 – Brann
(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)
Two of the top teams meet up in the late game on Sunday. On paper this looks like a tight match with few chances. Sarpsborg were surprisingly outplayed by Haugesund away and should be fairly happy to get away from that clash with a point. Schwartz looks like a good pick if he can nail down that striker spot over Agger.

Brann scored a deserved winner seven minutes into injury time after an Acosta header. They definitely look like a solid team, but they also look more likely to keep clean sheets than score a lot of goals. Despite the tough matchup, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a clean sheet for Brann here. Rolantsson is worth monitoring as he keeps starting out wide. Wormgoor and Teniste the safe picks, who both offers attacking returns and bonus potential.

Bodø/Glimt – Rosenborg
(Monday, 6:00 P.M.)
Rosenborg came back in a big big way last round, while Bodø/Glimt had their big goalscorer come off with injury, a heavy cramp they are now racing to get completely rid of for monday. Given the season injury on their second choice striker as well, this leaves Bodø/Glimt looking somewhat toothless, and a re-invigorated Rosenborg are huge favorites for this Monday night game. We are looking at the right flank to provide points in Helland and Hedenstad, as well as backing a clean sheet in Hansen and Reginiussen.

Rosenborg’s Tactical Shift Worth Monitoring

One of the huge discussion-points from this last gameweek is the resounding win Rosenborg pulled out at home against previously undefeated Molde. Though much can be explained with the players adding that extra few percentages to the effort on the pitch, there was a huge tactical change worth looking into, in Nicklas Bendtner taking up the left flank, allowing them to field both super-strikers Bendtner and Søderlund up top. With the ill effects of Bendtner’s wandering playstyle neutralised in this way, and also setting up both him and Søderlund as big targets for the crosses from Helland and Hedenstad, Rosenborg looked to be back in that unbeatable form they have sported these seasons passed.

The big question now is, will Rosenborg keep playing in this manner, and what does that do for the Fantasy options in the squad?

Bendtner finding his stride is a big one, with a huge ownership already invested he is once again a danger to those who don’t have him. A continued presence on the left side will dull his prospects as the prime goal scorer, so the price tag is somewhat high now, and the weigh-up vs. ownership gets even tougher than before.

The formation opens up Søderlund as an option, and with him taking the main striker position possibly the best option for strikers. Søderlund is no stranger to the Norwegian golden boot, and is more than capable of pulling out brace and hat-trick performances.

Of most interest is perhaps the added value to Helland and Hedenstad as solid fantasy picks. Helland has always been a big goal and assist threat on his own, and with two big strikers to aim for he should find his target more often than before. The same could be said for Hedenstad, who seems to have unlocked his combination play with Helland to become an equally dangerous threat. That they both share set piece duty also helps, with the likes of Reginiussen, Konradsen and new arrival Hovland bolstering the power present in the box at corners and free kicks.

Alas, this all depends on Rosenborg adapting this tactic full time or not, so all eyes are following them in the coming two Gameweeks before we might see another big push for double or triple ownership in the team.

I've got Vetlesen as a backup, so not necessarily a huge loss. It's however annoying to stick with players who miss 2 great matches despite never being declared unavailable.

Do anyone have a link to Pål André Helland's fantasy team? He likes to captain and bench himself depending on his prospects of starting.

I've only seen one of their full games (last one), so this opinion isn't informed at all.

But I like the fact Rolantsson takes pot shots at times for an occasional pleasant surprise. Wasn't a one-off last season either. Plus he has 20% ownership vs 13% for Acosta, 6% for Teniste.

(Disclaimer - I don't actually have him in my team, just Wormgoor)

                              Monitor team sheet this GW

Kristiansen was out for this GW, Marengo moved in at LW and was MOTM. He's been on fire recently. Rolantsson played LB. I'm interested to see how they'll line up if Kristiansen's back. All three good enough to play regular football, but only place for two of them.

I do think Rolantsson is likely to play most games though.

I definitely wouldn't get Konradsen on a WC!

Nilsen for sure. Maybe a bench fodder as the fifth, like Granli.

I still like Haugen at Brann if the budget allow it, but he's overpriced so not a must. Ejuke and Nguen also looks hot. I still believe Ulland Andersen will come good. Knudtzon could be worth a shot as he seems to be nailed on up front. Berntsen is good for 4th/5th mid as well, but Vetlesen also decent if you just want a 5th midfielder bench fodder.

I like Bamba or Espejord for the last striker spot, if you're in the 6.5ish bracket. Maybe Bamba as you already got Åsen. Opseth, Lehne Olsen and Johnson could also be considered.

If you go for Falch, make sure you get another playing GK as well. Falch has impressed, but Sarpsborg has Kristiansen hoping to get his place back on the bench.

Oh, and totally forgot two of those MtPockets mentioned:

Reginiussen could be worth a punt, but don't expect him to score like he has done in the two previous weeks.

Brynhildsen brilliant as a 5th midfielder. I think he looks like the most dangerous Stabæk midfielder when he plays, but he's young and could easily drop out of the lineup every now and then. He's 4.8 though, so also a great pick for 5th.

Reginiussen is Interesting, but for how long can Ranheim's incredible start goes on?

Is Brynildsen a better pick than Berntsen? Berntsen playing as forward doesn't he?

It's hard to say which position he plays, but it look like he's playing as a forward at times yes. Played deeper towards Stabæk last week when they fielded two strikers. Brynhildsen has been playing RW in a 4-3-3, so pretty advanced as well. More prone to rotation though I think, but it's depending on if you want to spread the risk (as you already got Åsen) and if you need the extra 0.2.

But yeah, Berntsen probably the safer pick on paper. Both great value.

You are not convinced about Konradsen? Nailed on Rosenborg-players, cheap with some returns...

You probably right about Ulland, also a easy player to downgrade.

                          Falch..maybe have McDermott for sub?

Nope, he's the defensive midfielder at Rosenborg in most games. With Lundemo playing yesterday he wasn't the holdning midfielder, but he's been playing holding midfielder in the previous games. I just think players like Åsen, Nguen, Ulland, Akintola and Ejuke have a higher ceiling as they are attacking players.

You probably right, Thanks 🙂 Ejuke was really up and down last year, maybe more stable this year. Åsen, Akintola and Nguen is in my time 🙂

What do you guys think of Aasmundsen? He scored a lot so far ...

Honestly hadn't noticed his returns, or seen him play. Looking at his stats so far -
                          2G / 2A from 5 shots (4 on target) / 4 big chances created.

That's a very good and probably unsustainable returns:effort ratio, but right now it is what it is.

Having said that, as comparison Asen's ratios are even higher: 2G / 4A from 4 shots (2 on target) / 5 big chances created. One would think that's unlikely to continue unless efforts increase. But from what I've seen of him and Tromso there's no reason to assume it couldn't. So perhaps likewise with Aasmundsen. Fixtures not bad either.

Played with both Benjamin Stokke and Stian on the 'ground/field' home in Tønsberg back in the days, and Stian always had something extra, a great right foot, think he will deliver some more assists during the season, not so many goals however, maybe on free kicks

It's quite ridiculous, isn't it? It was probably the best week to play the chip, but the stars are really aligning this week!

                          5 forwards scoring 5+ points
                          11 midfielders scoring 5+ points
28 defenders scoring 5+ points (including the top three scorers so far this GW)

I went with PTB in GW4 and Two Captains this GW because I didn't think GW4 had a lot of good attacking options, while GW6 had a few good ones like Haugen and Ohi. At the point I started planning I didn't know Pedersen and Åsen would be in such good form this season, while at the same time Stabæk would look really poor and Haugen would catch an injury.

Sure, I'm happy with the 70 points I got from my defence, but most PTB's this week have already outscored that before the DGW fixtures. The biggest difference so far though is in GW4 most of those who didn't play PTB managed to keep up (or even outscore) us who played PTB by captaining Pedersen, Åsen and/or Bendtner, as well as quite a few with Nguen and Hedenstad.

There's still time for midfielders and forwards to score midweek, but at the same time defenders could continue the scoring as well. Currently it looks like a massive, massive point swing for those who played PTB this GW, especially for those who managed to get 100+ during GW4 without PTB.

Currently on 72p with 5 players to go
My defenders have 37p and my Spissrush forwards 10p...

No chips played and only 51 in GW4 and a 10k drop in OR but I did not know the rearranged dates for the fixtures until after my team was set.
GW4 was a missed opportunity for me as it was too early in the season for me to pick team and player form.
The chips could even out now and the season settle down.
Looking forward to my WC but I have no Idea when to play the other chips.

On 84 here, five normal players left and four captains. Crazy. It's too powerful unfortunately, I think they'll have to change it next season. Like the idea of encouraging different formations though.

We have seen two exceptionally good DGWs for defenders though, and there are so many with attacking threat.

Would be interesting to see PTB in FPL. My defenders in GW34 (including 4 DGW players) scored a combined 13 (less than Wormgoor in one game before score doubled lol)

                                    On WC:

                                    1) Nilsen or Antonsen
                                    2) Rolantsson, Teniste or Acosta (already have Wormgoor)
                                    3) Søderlund worth it on WC?

Think so assuming no other RBK attackers, although Bendtner goes to world cup around GW11 so could postpone.

I'd like to captain Pedersen so fine by me, although Helland benched again will be annoying.
Otherwise quite tempted to cap Wormgoor but not sure I've ever had success at that with a defender.

                                            1) Nilsen hands down
                                            2) Rolantsson if he starts tomorrow and looks likely to start on Sunday. Teniste if not.
                                            3) Yeah, I think so.. Bendtner will leave for the WC after the next 4 gameweeks as well (I think).

You already got Hedenstad, Wormgoor, Nilsen and Tønne though, or are you replacing Hedenstad with another Brann defender? Do you really need another Brann defender, or do you plan to play 4 at the back?

Why Nilsen? I know he plays as a winger but Antonsen plays in midfield too and has scored very well (2g/1a). 1g more than Nilsen ...

Nilsen more attacking than Antonsen, so he's more likely to score or assist IMO.

Worth discussing Allsvenskan DGW options here? Just my uninformed ideas so any thoughts or corrections appreciated:

AIK - GK/defs (3/5 cs), Olsson, Bahoui, Goitom. Other fwds injured/suspended.
Malmö - Defence in principle but zero cs to date, Svanberg (other mids injury doubts but maybe Rieks), Rosenberg, Strandberg/Jeremejeff if get the minutes.
Djurgårdens - Not sure defence worth it given fixtures, Mrabti injured so maybe Ring/Karlstrom, Kadawere.
                                                  Sirius - No clue

                                                  I currently have:
                                                  Dahlin
Larsson, Une Larsson (rotation risk), Larson (injury doubt), Lundstrom (injured),
                                                  Olsson, Bahoui, Svanberg

Guess I'm replacing Lundstrom and Omarsson to Kadawere/Goitom.

                                                    I’ve got,
                                                    from Malmö: Dahlin and Rieks.
                                                    From AIK: Karlsson and Goitom.
                                                    From Djurgårn: Augustinsson and Radetinac.

Kadewere essential in my mind and I’ll also be getting a Malmö forward with my 2 ft’s. Will likely be taking a hit too. Probably looking go take a hit for another AIK mid/defender also. 3 from each in other words.

Planning on getting rid of some DGW deadweight with 2 FT, so in need of a midfielder and a forward.

I'm tempted to try out Gytkjær for the coming GW against Start (already got Akintola, so it might be either redundant or explosive, I guess), and Aasmundsen hoping his form will hold. Bamba, Espejord or Berntsen are other alternatives off the top of my head.

Gytkjær + Akintola would be overkill for me given vif, bra, rbk in next 5 - but it's Eliteserien so could work.

It's a tall order to be sure.... thing is Akintola has been so explosive you could well get returns on the combo anyway. Only Pedersen has been close to stand-out as a striker option really, some others have had signs, but nowhere near stable enough. Gytkjær is one of many in the lower end leaving your with money to jump once that train materialises.

True, it's probably overkill. Only figured I'd keep him for one GW. But it seems I
should exchange Haugen for Komsoon or Bamba, if his injury keeps looking more serious. That certainly changes things.

And I agree, not a lot of steadily performing strikers. But I really need to get rid of Floki. Ok, he gives some cash leeway in the midfield and the other attackers, but Start isn't exactly brimming with returns.

I agree with the other two, I think it's too much Haugesund.

I got Akintola in myself already this week, and considering Berntsen in for my 4.5 fodder as well for a hit (and a formation shift to 3-5-2 instead of 3-4-3).

Due to Haugen's injury, it would seem I'm forced into 4-3-3, depending on how I handle him (bench or sell). I'm stocked on Brann players, but also underperforming Stabæk-players. So I desperately need to find a working forward until I can rearrange the midfield.

On the other hand, Bamba & co meets Tromsø away, so there's that. The Tromsø defense concedes goals rather regularly so far, though.

Berntsen and Bamba would surely give me at least something out of that match. And it is the more long term choice probably.

I like it. Several great value picks in midfield if they keep it up. Would be tempted to go Berntsen over Asen for more ITB in case one/more don't, but would have to check stats & points per £. Read somewhere about Linde going to the world cup, so may want to check that. Vetlesen's on 3 yellows, one away from a suspension, but maybe doesn't matter for 5th mid filler.

Berntsen is only 0.6 up from Afeez, who's my current bench fodder. I'm very tempted to get in Berntsen instead of replacing Floki. If not I want to upgrade Floki, and to do that I need to spend at least 0.5 extra there as well to get Bamba or Espejord. I currently rate Berntsen higher as a fantasy pick than the strikers. Berntsen playing OOP, passing the eye test and creating more chances than any other player in Eliteserien per minute. Not sure if he can keep that up, but surely amazing value anyway.

If Floki starts to deliver I might have a benching headache, but rather have Floki + Berntsen than Bamba + Afeez at the same price.

Asking b/c just noticed that sofascore's not reliable. e.g. Only has Berntsen down for 1 appearance, not 5. Akintola down for 5 appearances, not 6. And therefore missing stats from those missing games.

                                                                      1. Niemi

e.g. Berntsen - summary has 0G/1A so far, but TIL-SAN game (1G/1A) and Tromso team stats (2G) are correct.

It can often take 24 hours+ before it's posted here after submitting, so most likely not. I guess it's out on Thursday, or maybe even Friday.

Ohi also in with a shout IF he does well against Start tomorrow. Lillestrøm have been pretty poor so far, but so has Stabæk, so I really need to see something from them tomorrow to consider it.
