After six closely fought rounds, just eight managers remain in our Fantasy Premier League Cup competition.
The most eye-catching battle in the last 16 round saw the top placed manager Always Captain Kun, who is currently 18th in the overall rankings, defeated 67-64 by 59,811 ranked BroTown_Tindersticks.
Both played the Free Hit chip in Gameweek 35’s reduced set of matches with their Manchester City selection proving pivotal to the final outcome.
While BroTown_Tindersticks’s acquisition of David Silva netted him 10 points, Always Captain Kun’s opted for the non-playing Leroy Sane and had to settle for a solitary point from his replacement off the bench, Watford defender Kiko Femenia.
Next up for this giant-killer is another tough encounter, against 1,113 ranked Batmaniac, who emphatically saw off 310,615 placed minnow Meribenige in the sixth round.
Both have the Triple Captain chip to play but it would seem likely that they will be saving this for Gameweek 37’s Double Gameweek.
In 764 spot sits UTK, who is now the highest ranked manager left in the competition.
His last 16 score of 81 points, thanks to the deployment of his Free Hit chip, was the highest of the round and sets him up with a quarter-final tie against 35,991 placed 2EyedTurk.
UTK will be hoping for a strong showing for his Spurs assets, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli against Watford on Monday night. They will also be hoping that Manchester City inflict modest damage to the West Ham defence, as they are currently without any of Pep Guardiola’s title-winning attack.
In contrast, 2 Eyed Turk is without any Spurs attackers but has three Manchester City assets, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, already in place for Gameweek 36.
Dmcqt defeated N@th by a single point in their last 16 clash. Next up for this 1,420 placed manager is a quarter-final encounter with Boxing Can Girouds, who is ranked 13,546 places behind him.
Both used their Free Hit chip in Gameweek 35 and currently go into the next set of matches without any Manchester City options. But while Dmcqt has now used up all his chips, Boxing Can Girouds has his Triple Captain chip to call on, though again, this looks likely to be saved for a potential semi-final tie should they progress.
Mr Cookie (rank 3,264) saw off Lamela and Consuela in the last 16 by 65 – 41 to book a place in the quarter finals against PetesBlair (rank 7,564).
They are another pair that used their Free Hit chip in Gameweek 35 and are also both without Manchester City cover.
Investment in Guardiola’s attack looks likely, but it could be that Spurs assets decide their tie. While Mr Cookie has Alli and Son, PetesBlair will be hoping for a strong showing from Kane and Christian Eriksen.
