Captains

Vote in the Captain Poll for Gameweek 3

The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 3 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is, not surprisingly, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who faces a very appealing home match against a Brighton side, who are notoriously poor on the road.

The Seagulls shipped nine goals in two league matches against Liverpool in 2017/18, four of them at Anfield in Gameweek 38. The Egyptian netted in that match and provided the assist for Dominic Solanke’s (£5.0m) 53rd minute goal too.

His case is, of course, strengthened by being Liverpool’s biggest goal threat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, even if he only managed two assists in the end.

Sadio Mané (£9.8m), owned by 31 percent, should prove a strong alternative candidate bearing in mind he is a must-have option for the 45 percent of Fantasy managers who do not own Salah, and remains ahead of him for both goal tally and FPL total score.

Either way, Liverpool assets are expected to dominate the captaincy debate this week considering that West Ham were the only top flight side to survive relegation in 2017/18 with more shots conceded on the road than Brighton.

Sergio Aguero‘s (£11.1m) hat-trick against Huddersfield on Sunday will naturally give him some backing for the captaincy this week, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the Molineux.

Wolves may have allowed fewer shots on their goal than any other side so far, but the fact that have still conceded four goals in two matches suggests there are areas to exploit for the reigning champions.

Aguero might be at slightly more risk of rotation this weekend but we will, as per usual, wait and see what emerges in the press conferences later this week.

After four assists in just two matches, the highly-owned Benjamin Mendy (£6.1m) is an option for a second week running. In fact, he finished third in the poll behind just Aguero and Salah for Gameweek 2.

After West Ham’s performance at Anfield in Gameweek 1 and a defeat at home to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3, Arsenal assets might also be worth looking at. The favourites there are expected to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m).

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur’s meeting at Old Trafford reduces the appeal of a few usual suspects, namely Paul Pogba (£8.1m), Romelu Lukaku (£11.0m) and Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) for the Red Devils and Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) from the north London outfit.

Best GW3 4,5M defender? Steve Cook?
Wanna do Bavies --> 4,5 in order to upgrade Shaw to Mendy GW4.

Or is now the time to downgrade Arnie, to free up some funds?

Very happy with my 89 + 96 start to the season, but having no Mendy is worrying.

No can do. Bavies is 6,0 and Mendy is 6,2. No money ITB.

Those losing faith in Firmino already. Ehm, stop.

He passed to Salah before he was brought down for the penalty. He also passed to Salah before he was brought down for the red card. Could've been 2 assists.

No reason to sell before Brighton. Sell if he blanks again, because their fixtures turn anyway.

This Brighton game is what I was aiming for with the triple pool before GW1. Never crossed my mind to take off Bobby before that game.
However, if he again fails to play well enough, might just downgrade to another striker.

Even if Firmino scores 5 against Brighton I'm selling him after that. But yeah, obviously it's stupid to transfer him out before Brighton at home.

Bit unfair. Klopp's new tactic is to have Bobby play deeper and do more of the dirty work. Good for the team, not good for FPL.

I don't think TLF cares how he 'played' for the team. FPL wise he was not good for all the reasons you listed.

He will play 90 if his recovery goes as planned. I believe it's 60-70mins in the next game and then then full 90 the one after. BOU is a much better fixture than lei.

Yes he is. Not saying he isn't a good pick. Just that starting GW 4. Hazard + Mkhi will outscore Salah + 5.0mid.

Sell Firmino? Seems to be playing more as a midfielder behind Salah and Mane. Would probably have to take a hit to get Aub though.

I'm not a big RMT fan... I'm posting it below to see if anyone sees gaping wounds in it.
I'm coasting happily at 185 points so far so no major surgery needed. 1FT and 0.4ITB

    Ederson (Sper)
    Robbo Luiz Tomkins (kabasele Tark)
    Salah Mane Richarlison Milivojevic (Cairney)
    Kun Arnie Wilson

Only thing that keeps niggling at me is Milivojevic.
I keep thinking his 6.5 could be better used. Pedro a possibility but can't help think he is almost over-achieving a bit.

    Any thoughts.

Cheers. I'm going to take my medicine on Mendy for now and go without.
I'm at peace with not having everyone I want.
If/When I WC he'll be in there. Unless I free up funds somehow.

            6 years, 2 months ago

            No it isn't.
To take my medicine - by definition means to take the punishment for something.
In this case the punishment is potential loss of points by not having him.
So, I'm going to take my medicine by choosing not to have him in my team.

In fairness it was a crap analogy or phrasing to use anyway. 🙂

Sorry but I digress - By taking your medicine you WOULD be getting Mendy in whilst recognising that is was your mistake not to have him in the first place... Punishment being that he is more expensive and you have lost some of his points - why medicine doesn't taste nice...

I for example never took my medicine on the golf course - finding the trees off the tee and instead of taking my medicine and chipping out into the fairway, going for the spectacular recovery shot that never came off!

              Sorry to be a bore!

This. Totally realistic for Mendy to hit 10 PPG over City's good run for the next few gameweeks - a clean sheet and that's all he needs is an assist and with every game played, the more they will gel and increase chance of any attacking returns. For every 5 goals scored by City, I'd be surprised if Mendy wasn't involved in two of those.

Although Silva plays for better team with great fixtures he is not as offensive as we could think. Plays deeper or as with Huddersfild on RWB
Miki though inspite of 2 really hard fixtures is the most creative player in PL now. Plus more shots than B.ilva.

yeh I hoarded all of mine till final gameweeks last season and built my entire teams around double GWs, only for that to end up completely ruining me. Think this season my one takeaway is balance, all eggs in one basket doesn't usually end pay off.

WorldCup may have played a part in that too.

I plan to ditch BSilva to Mhiki to cover Arsenal and while city look great, i'm not convinced bernardo will be involved in too many goals and assists.

With city run I still feel 3 x players is essential. I have Kun and Mendy. Out of of interest, who is everyone next choice of city player?

    Personally, leaning towards Ederson
