Meet the Manager #6 – Adam Hopcroft (Choppers13)

Over his eight campaigns, Adam Hopcroft has finely tuned a bespoke management style that pays close attention to underlying statistics, the Season Ticker and the good old-fashioned eye test.

With five top 10,000 finishes, including two within the top 1,000, it’s a strategy that has clearly paid off.

Adam looks on course for another strong finish this time out too, with a current placing in the top 30,000.

Here he discusses in detail the key statistics he pays particular attention to and why medium, not short-term, upcoming fixtures guide his Season Ticker.

Each year he also gathers more information about players, which helps decide whether strong underlying statistics herald a point blitz or disappointment.

Adam then applies his tailor-made statistics and fixture analysis to the current campaign to reveal the players he is looking to ditch and those he is keen to bring in.

The chat with Adam is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

Not much between Mane and Salah this season apart from 3.1m...
I’m keeping Salah this gameweek then swapping out for Mane and massively upgrading elsewhere

What are you thinking Pochettino? Defending a 2-1 lead and going a man down, why take your fastest players off who can relieve pressure by chasing balls down....lol

After our best game this year by far, you think the manager did something wrong? You should write Lloris out after those two CL performances he should at least be benched for a while to calm down. Who would you drop after Lloris made that clever effort? A defender, a defensive mid or Kane? Or Lamela who just came in?

      1. Eden Wizard
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 18 days ago

Kane (you were winning so no need for more goals) with Son & Lamela occupying space high and wide in front of their centre backs to distract deep mids & CBs from joining the attack.
Knowing full well they'll beat them in a foot race would cause them not to overload in attack.

        1. skodaole2
          • 12 Years
          6 years, 18 days ago

Ok respect the different opinion, it just seemed obvious to me. Cant get Kane out with 10 men and only 1-2 ahead. They didnt overload in attack even with one player more, the referre gave a false foul that would bring all players in our box. That would happen despite the sub. And after the equaliser Spurs seemed the most attacking team, lost 2-3 chances to win it dont think without Kane up top Spurs would make those efforts. But Son - Kane was close i thought you d suggest to get a DM out which would be a mistake imo, PSV werent able to hold the ball after their first goal even for seconds, Spurs dominated the midfield so no reason to change something there.

If the rest of your team is secure, I would be tempted to punt on Martial.

Problem is that United rarely scores alot of goals, and Martial has not had many shots compared to his goals.. And there is always the Sanchez problem.

I'm on 80% not to get him.

It would require a -4. And all my spare cash. Leaves me with problems to get Mendy and KDB.

Considering Firmino or Mane for the nice fixtures, and spare cash.

A great meet the manager this week, quite a few tips that I had not considered before.

Loved the bit when Joe was trying to drag out of Choppers an validation of the ‘cheap or non playing bench’ strategy, but he wasn’t having any of it and replied that it depends on the season/circumstance ... a quick check of Choppers benched points reveals about 72 points sitting there and no game weeks with just 10 starters due to a non starting bench 🙂
