Scoutcast Episode 292 – Hindsight

The captain hindsight brigade was out in full force this week to bash the Scoutcasters – among others – for recommending Brighton defender Shane Duffy for the Gameweek 34 armband.

With goal threat and two home games against Bournemouth and Cardiff, it seemed a good call. But with seven goals conceded without reply over this pair of games, reality had other ideas.

Az, Joe and their guest Adam Hopcroft take stock of a less-than-inspiring Double Gameweek, with no regrets about their armband blunder.

For Az and Adam, captaining a player with two fixtures over one had merit, especially in a week with no standout captain elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Joe was looking for another Stephane Sessegnon moment. This refers to the “VE Day”-style celebrations among the Fantasy community back in 2012, when the similarly unlikely Double Gameweek armbandee rifled in an injury-time goal against Reading for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ second match that week. It was so memorable that, almost seven years on, Az even remembers who got the assist during that magical moment.

Aside from assessing their newly deployed Wildcards, the crew also take stock of the community’s questions. The fallout from Troy Deeney’s red card and Mohamed Salah’s return to goalscoring form are among the issues covered.

Coping with rotation among the ranks of Manchester City and Spurs also gets an airing.

The Scoutcast’s latest talking point draws inspiration from the top managers this season, to find out what lessons we can learn from them and what it takes to gain an elite-level overall rank.

The community’s roughest and smoothest moves are looked at, including one of the most shambolic Wildcards of all time.

The crew finish off with a detailed look at their Gameweek 35 clean sheet predictions, differential tips, captaincy calls and transfer plans.

There was a moment in the game when Eirksen took a shot and Kompany blocked it and it went to VAR review because the ball may have hit Kompany's arm which it didn't but lets say for arguments sake that it was a pen would the yellow card that Wanyama picked up just after the innocent for taking KDB down be rescinded?

I think so.. it’s like a foul after an offside.. should never occur if play is stopped

A card still stands (i'm guessing). If a player head butted another player, he'd still be sent off.

That’s violent conduct though, not just a foul.

That is different though as it is for violent conduct but in Wanyama's case it was for a professional fowl that he would never have had to make in the scenario i have floated.

I really do not know what the story would be in a case like that and he might have a good shout of getting the card rescinded imo.

I'd say it should stand, if someone punches someone after a VAR incident they would be sent off

Violent conduct is different surely? You can be sent off for violent conduct even when the ball is not in play, or before / after a game has finished.

Yeah I'm not sure, can to be booked for a trip when the ball is out of play or holding from a corner?

I don't know, and the refs probably don't know either. They'll just make it up as they go along.

I wanted to ask a similar question, had Sterling took off his shirt while celebrating the goal, would he still get a yellow card when the goal is canceled?

That is another one that could easily happen in a VAR game and it would be interesting to find out what the refs are told to do in such a situation.

if it gives you more than 8 points its perfectly acceptable. Deeney replacement is a given but if you can get Wilson in that should cover that one without a hit.

Duffy still has a double so is still potentially worth holding. Certainly not moveable for a. hit.

Firmino is obviously decent but a week early. Cardiff are fighting hard, You might do just as well from Eriksen for this week,

      Suggest 1 transfer

more rotation possible for spurs (especially as Son will be out for 1 champions League game may be him instead)
With Alli back he may play deeper where his pionts drop off (assiter of assiter)
Hes a premium asset easier to sell for city/ pool player who look great

Just gotta accept it as an owner, still worth it.

Ajax Vs Barca final would be horrible with all the Ajax players joining Barca just after it.

Would be kinda funny if Ajax won though

Remember 2013 when it was Bayern v Dortmund and gotze was leaving for Bayern in the summer and he didn't play. Presumably injury related but not cool either way.

            Thanks. Truly unbelievable.

People always knock spurs for bottling it but tonight city were brilliant going forward and we found a way.

Reckon you have a good chance v Barca.
