Eliteserien Fantasy: Gameweek 6 Preview

The first round of the NM Cupen took place in midweek, but there was little in the way of cup magic as all 16 Eliteserien teams beat their lower division opposition to make it to progress. In the league, fixture postponements due to Norway’s involvement in the U-20 World Cup have come thick and fast, with details of the teams affected below, along with previews of this weekend’s fixtures.

Mjøndalen vs. Stabæk

Centre back Sondre Solholm Johansen has surprisingly outscored set-piece wizard Joachim Olsen Solberg, but the promoted side are yet to keep a clean sheet. Julian Faye Lund has made more saves than any other goalkeeper but could face competition from fellow loanee Mathias Eriksen Ranmark. Tonny Brochmann has scored two penalties and set up two goals so far.

Franck Boli’s goals against B/G weren’t his most impressive, but they earned the hosts a big win and Boli three bonus points against the high flying Eagles. The only penalty save so far this season was made by Marcus Sandberg in GW1. Fantasy interest in Stabæk’s players will likely be heavily affected by their schedule.

Stabæk face consecutive blanks in GW9 and GW10 and consecutive doubles in GW14 (sif, odd) and GW15 (S08, bra).

Bodø/Glimt vs. Lillestrøm

Bodø/Glimt suffered their first defeat of the season against Stabæk. Still, they are unbeaten at Aspmyra and should be prepared for this match after a second string XI featured in an 8-0 cup victory.

Bodø/Glimt blank in GW10 and have two fixtures in GW17 (VIK, kbk).

Lillestrøm failed to win their first two away games this season and will be without Tobias Salquist after the defender picked up a red card in the cup, while Arnor Smarason is still unavailable. Thomas Lehne Olsen remains a threat up front despite not being the most clinical of finishers, while Kristoffer Ødemarksbakken was the matchwinner with his first goal of the season against Haugesund.

Brann vs. Ranheim

Despite not keeping a clean sheet in the first five games, Vito Wormgoor is the second top scoring defender in the game and is owned by over 60% of fantasy managers. Fredrik Haugen and Kristoffer Barmen will miss out this time, but Petter Strand and Gilbert Koomson are expected to be ready.

Brann will be without a game in GW17.

Change is in the air for Ranheim, with last season’s fantasy darling Erik Tønne now operating at left back. Even more worryingly for his owners, 3 of Ranheim’s 5 goals against Viking came without Tønne on the pitch. Mads Reginiussen looks more likely to repeat last season’s attacking exploits, while those looking for a cheaper option can consider Ola Solbakken and veteran Oyvind Storflor – all three midfielders registered their first returns of the season last gameweek.

FK Haugesund vs. Molde

Alexander Stølås is very good at free kicks. He blanked for the first time this season against LSK but is a direct or indirect threat any time the ball goes dead. Owned by more than 40%, he will surely feature in plenty of lineups even against the free scoring league leaders.

Magnus Wolff Eikrem has been a revelation and bagged a brace as Molde dismantled the champions. If they weren’t already heavy favourites for the title, they are now. Eirik Ulland Andersen will be out for a while with an achilles injury sustained in the cup, bringing Erling Knudtzon back onto the fantasy radar. Martin Ellingsen didn’t feature last season due to injury but has cemented his place in central midfield and could be a reasonable budget pick. Ruben Gabrielsen filled in at left back against Rosenborg – all defensive options are in play here.

Molde blank in GW17.

Kristiansund BK vs. Tromsø

Strømsgodset may have made it easy for him, but Flamur Kastrati bagged two goals in his first 45 minutes this season. Liridon Kalludra also impressed with a goal and an assist. Kristiansund’s two clean sheets thus far have both come at home and this seems a good fixture to back Sean McDermott and company. The Owls have won the corresponding fixture in the previous two seasons by an aggregate score of 9-2.

Kristiansund blank in GW10 and GW15 before a double in GW17 (ODD, B/G).

Tromsø will hope Runar Espejord can stay fit; he adds a different dimension to their otherwise diminutive attack and equalised against Brann with a poacher’s goal. There could be value to be found in midfield through Onni Valakari, Daniel Berntsen and Mikael Noro Ingebrigtsen, with the latter two able to play a more advanced role. Gutan’s defence looks one to avoid; Simen Wangberg’s 6-goal season seems a long time ago.

Odd vs. Strømsgodset

Odd find themselves second in the table with an abundance of viable fantasy options. The conundrum of whether Espen Ruud’s attacking threat makes him worth the extra 1m over Odd’s other defenders continues. It seems only a matter of time before Sander Svendsen opens his account. After two games without a goal, Torgeir Børven will hope to get on the scoresheet again – he has plenty of time to reach double figures in the league for the first time.

Odd blank in GW10 and have a double in GW14 (MOL, STB).

Strømsgodset seem to have the same problem no matter who plays: a leaky defence. It could still be worth considering Jonathan Parr for his assist potential. Yacouba Sylla has 9 bonus points this season but was less impressive in the last game and doesn’t carry much attacking threat. Godset still have an abundance of quality up front and Mos appeals with Marcus Pedersen a doubt.

Rosenborg vs. Sarpsborg 08

Nobody saw this coming. The champions, the biggest team in Norway, bottom of the table after five games. Their fantasy options look overpriced and rotation prone. David Akintola has disappointed, but regardless of whether that’s his own fault, he’s injured for Sunday’s match. Birger Meling was perhaps lucky to escape a red card against Molde, but is also injured. Gjermund Åsen hopes to be ready but in any case has looked lost since returning to his hometown club. RBK have been better at home, even if they haven’t taken their chances. Eirik Horneland badly needs a win.

Sarpsborg’s start has also been a strange one. They are the only unbeaten team in the league but may be disappointed to have drawn four games 1-1. Nicolai Næss scored a free kick against Mjøndalen but S08 are a little light at the back, with Jonathan Lindseth another fantasy midfielder playing in defence. Given they’ve managed to avoid losing to three top half teams so far, it seems as good a time as any to travel to Lerkendal.

Sarpsborg blank in GW10 and GW17, either side of a double in GW15 (stb, mol). Their fixture against Viking is yet to be rearranged.

Viking FK vs. Vålerenga

It was a brutal encounter for Viking’s defence last time out, but they’ll hope to bounce back on Monday night against a side yet to win on the road. Ylldren Imbrahimaj has probably been the budget pick of the season so far, with Kristian Thorstvedt also impressing. Tommy Høiland seems more likely to repeat his 2017 Eliteserien form than his 2018 OBOS-Ligaen form, but nevertheless opened his account with a goal and an assist against Ranheim.

Viking blank in GW10, the new date for their fixture against Sarpsborg is yet to be confirmed.

This fixture finished 7-1 to the club from the capital in 2017. Herolind Shala is the top scoring Vålerenga player so far but is a doubt for this game. Chidera Ejuke has been easy on the eye as ever and is probably the league’s best dribbler, Bård Finne has only played over an hour in half of VIF’s fixtures so far – both have 23 points.

Vålerenga blank in GW9 and GW15, with a double GW17 (sif, stb).

How are you looking for this GW?

Viking's Tripic start. Impressive number of shots he has. Bound to score someday?

Was still editing it, shots are 19, 18, 17, 16, 16 in respective order. First number is goal conversion rate.

I thought about bringing him in this week (based on a previous comment I read about him having a lot of shots without scoring), but I noticed he only played 24 minutes in GW7. Without the means (or, more honestly, desire) to delve into the reason for this, and fearing possible rotation, in the end I went for the "safer" Tonny Brochmann (who may not be starting today - I haven't looked at the starting lineups yet, but I see a zero beside his name in my team). It was a toss-up between Brochmann and Thorstvedt for me.

In reality I needn't have done a transfer at all this gameweek. The player I transferred out was Brann's Petter Strand, who's done okay for me since GW1 (though not so much lately), and had a home game this GW. I just made the transfer for the sake of it as I would have been losing it next GW anyway. Knowing my luck Strand will find his GW1 & GW2 form today.

Thorstvedt is going to the U20 WC after this GW, he won't be playing in the league for about a month.

Brochmann is starting. Game is delayed because their opponents are stuck in traffic.

And thanks for the Thorstvedt info, too.

I really don't know anything about Tripic. I just noticed those shots once when I was looking stats. It would be nice if someone with more knowledge chipped in! (wink wink nudge nudge)

            Thorstvedt 2 shots 1 goal.
            Bytyqi 3 shots 1 goal.
            Hoiland 4 shots 1 goal.
            Tripic 4 shots 0 goals.

Scoring a goal comes more probable by the game!

His contribution to my team is certainly harmless to my rivals, but if anyone know the nature of his injury that'd be great!

Technically 3 captain fails on the bounce for me.

Although last week in GW7 I captained Eikrem (3 pts.) and vice-captained Ohi (0 pts.), and this week in GW8 I captained Vilhjálmsson (2 pts.) and VC'd Eikrem (1 pt.). If I switched these I'd be a little worse off. Do these count as captain successes, then? 🙂

Nah, that just an even worse fail 😉 .... a captain fail for me is not getting any return such as an assist or goal, and if a defender a clean sheet. A 3 pointer for a mid is a big captain fail 🙂

103.1m here as well. Suspect some might be much higher as was relatively slow in getting in Eikrem, Borven, Stolas and Layouni, and hung onto Finne, Strand-Larsen, Adekugbe for too long.

Just had a quick squint at the top ten teams overall, judging from those you’re right up there. The average seemed to be around 104 with the best 105.2 I think.

Børven Ohi Eikrem Stølås and Wormgoor all have insanely high ownership and if you got on those early then TV must have gone through the roof

                  Yep

I lucked out with Shala midweek for a big green. Just looking at the teams in my MLs the template is very strong and captaincy is the most likely way to make a move.

Round results around 13k appear to be neutral and I’m well down the food chain having blown GW2

Had Eikrem, Ohi and Wormgoor since GW1 too, and Stolas since GW3. Layouni and Borgen the ones I might have missed value on

102.3 not great, the main culprits are Tonne -0.4, Kvande -0.1, Diop -0.1, Hoiland -0.2
They get sorted on WC and Tonne only got a stay of execution so far because he has a game in GW10 and I needed all the FT to get 10 playing.
Seems I can not count. I could swear that I had it sussed three weeks ago with FT's for elleven.

Any tips for sub 5.0 defenders needed for GW10 - want a little change from selling Naess in order to get Layouni in 11.

            Currently on this -

            Stølås Wormgoor Psyche Naess Bjornbak

After a strong start had a bit of a mare the past 10 days. Missed the R7 deadline and completely forgot about R8 on a Thursday. Now have about 7 players with a blank in R10, or are currently occupying benches e.g. Strand Larsen.

Is the smart thinking to play your wild card early this game? (i.e. no late season DGWs due to cup postponements). If so best to use it to get a team out for blank R10, or readjust in R11? (seen a lot of comments saying R11).

Readjust after BGW10 imo. I guess you will have 3 Molde and at least Wormgoor from Brann, Stolas from FKH and a Valerenga bod or two so you will have the main players covered, and of course 2 FT's having missed the deadlines.
Good luck GW10 is only one week with low scoring potential so better to cover the run up to the double game week fun..

On a separate matter, do any locals have updated news on Adekugbe? Was meant to be out for a couple of weeks, but that period is now up and perhaps this knee injury is more serious?

Sylla seems to make his points from bonus with just one assist.
Could be worth a punt for a cheap GW10 player but I would not count on more than 2 or 3 points a game.

Hottest transfer targets this week? Seems like a tough-to-predict round.

            Considering

            A) Strand Larsen -> Vilhjalmsson (bench)
            B) Just hold, 2FT next round
            C) Reginiussen -> Berisha

            Rossbach
            Wormgoor Stølås Haraldseid Psyché
            Layouni Regi Eikrem Ibrahimaj
            Ohi LehneOlsen

Did two transfers: Meling -> Stølås & Austbø -> Sandvik (Stølås was a kneejerk (finally), Sandvik close to best option for next two GW's, name starts with Sand)

            Team this week:
            Sandvik
            Wormgoor, Stølås, Pirinen
            Eikrem (C), Jensen, Strand, Hestad
            Børven, Ohi (vc), Herrem

            [Vaikla, Leikvoll Moberg, Psyché, Juárez]

Fairly happy with the team, next transfers
GW10: Leikvoll Moberg -> Solbakken (mainly bench fodder after GW10 but gives me full squad and is cheap)
GW11: Sandvik -> Sandberg (DGW's in mind, lots of saves, name starts with Sand)
GW12: Hestad -> Someboby (Hestad a bit too expensive for my liking)

            Good luck y'all!

Was originally going to transfer him out for next GW, but given his price rises, I can't justify it. Same with Layouni.

Will probably just have to field a 8-9 man team next GW.

Still don’t have Layouni - WC fail.

I’m contemplating rolling next week even though I’d have 9 just so I can get him and Rashani for 11 in a double swoop

                  Layouni is definitely worth getting!

Might be wrong, but I don't think it's that important fielding a complete 11 next GW. I currently have 8, but don't think I want to hang on to Strand any longer, and might transfer him out as one of my 2 FTs.

If you're only fielding 8 then you're team has about 75% of its full capacity to score points. I know team value and covering the highly owned players distort that a bit, and they'll be others in the same boat, but you're at a disadvantage before a ball has been kicked

I have 11 myself and will be using a transfer to have a playing sub. I've missed out on some players I would otherwise have transferred in by prepping for next week. But I'm looking forward to GW10 as a chance to leapfrog lots of teams.

                    I might be wrong!

If I could, I'd field 11, but that would include hits – and I'm likely to WC in GW 11, and dropping the likes of Børven and Layouni for one GW, will mean I won't be able to bring them back again.

Depending on injuries and other factors, I might just sit through next GW and hope it'll be a low-scoring one.

I’m in a slightly different boat having wc very early. I’m passing on week 10 likely and counting on having most highly owned players as cover.

I’m eying the doubles in 14/5 as where to move on. That means using transfers to get doubles and key men. Say

                      Layouni 11
                      Hagen 12
                      Rashani 13
                      Boli 14

That’ll give me 16 players in 14 and 14/5 in 15 without compromising overall team strength.

                      It’ll backfire of course

After the last two seasons I never thought he'd reach over 40% ownership. 7G 1A but only 5 bonus points tells you he's a bit of a poacher, but at least now he is actually getting the goals and his volley against TIL was an excellent finish

Honestly thought that Tromssa has a better chance to clean sheet than Kristiansund but now again I'm having Psyché's points benched.

Brochmann & Psyche on the bench for me. I started Næss & Herrem. It was a case of pick 2 from 5 to start of those 4 plus Ibrahimaj. I took the lazy option and started the two players with home games.

Part of my reason for not starting Psyche was the fact that I have McDermott as my only playing keeper and I didn't want to double up with Kristiansund playing away (I sometimes do when they're at home though). I think Psyche has to be seriously considered as a regular starter from now on though, given his form. His price shouldn't be a factor for his continued benching.

In hindsight, starting Næss over Brochmann (or indeed, Psyche) was a huge mistake. Sarpsborg only have one clean sheet, which should be the main consideration in starting most defenders (there are exceptions, of course - Stolas, for sure, and also probably Wormgoor). Meanwhile, Kristiansund now have 5 clean sheets from 9 (plus 2 attacking returns from Psyche), and Brochmann now has 6 returns from 9 games, which is excellent for his price - I expect his value to skyrocket in the next couple of weeks.

P.S. While I've been typing this I've also been checking my team, and I see that Næss has had an assist added to go from zero points to 3 this GW, which is a small plus and lessens missing out on Brochmann's points. Overall, this GW seems to have been a good one for me so far, and I'm provisionally up to 124 OR (although this will surely change before the GW ends).

GW17 looks the best to me (I have 3 Molde, 2 Brann who both blank; only 1 Viking, no Vålerenga, B/G, Kristiansund who all have doubles) but like with FH in FPL I think it depends on your team. I played first WC in GW3 and have been making transfers so I can have a full XI in GW10, Sell the only big rotation risk.

I think the fact there are another 13 GWs to play after the doubles means we'll see a greater variety of strategies than in FPL where everyone plays the same chips at the same time. Also a quite a few used RU in GW2.

Couldn't agree more about the many different strategies. For me that's what I'm enjoying the most in comparison to FPL, which I've fallen out of love with a little bit this year

Ironically I have a very similar strategy to you though

It depends so much on your team. If your team is looking strong from GW11 onwards and you have both WC and RU available, I think the best strategy is probably to RU in GW10, WC1 in GW16/17 and WC2 in GW18.

The only problem with a WC over RU in GW17 is the loss in TV.
With RU you get your players back with no loss.
With WC you transfer out your regulars to field a side geared to only one GW. When you want Eikrem and co back after GW17 you have to pay full price.

Speaking as someone who has activated his rich uncle chip already this week, my advice would be to hold off for a better gameweek (most likely GW17, as Tallestjohn said). I fear I may come to regret my decision to play it this week somewhere down the line, much like many did in FPL recently after having played their Free Hit "too early" in the season. With 3 DGWs confirmed so far (and one fixture still to be rearranged) I'm sure there will be a better opportunity to use it in the future.

Of course, it all depends on your particular team, how many players you can get out in GW10, and how much you're willing to ride out this GW with what you've got. I chose a few weeks ago not to bother planning for GW10 and just deal with it with RU if necessary when it came, and consequently would've only had 6 players next week if I didn't RU and just used my FT instead (6 good players, mind you, but still only 6). Whether using my RU to get 5 more starters was worth it, only time will tell.

I think when this Eliteserien season is over it will be interesting to see how many different chip strategies were employed by the users here. I'm sure it will be much more varied than the template strategies used by most players in FPL this past season (myself included, of course).

I have all my chips available.
                The plan is
GW10 - Use FT's to field only 10 but cover the big hitters.
WC between 11 and 14 to freshen up and get ready for attack attack in GW14. Rich uncle in GW17 and fit in two captains were I can.

I'll get writing something for the next GW but I'll wait until after the cup fixtures so it's fully up to date with any injuries/suspensions (I notice no postponements in the cup so the likes of Stabæk will have to cope without their U20 World Cup players)

Is Rudd to Hagen worth a 0.9 saving do you reckon?

I need that extra to get Boli in for Vilh. Other way I would find the cash would be to downgrade Rossbach. Thoughts?

I would probably downgrade Rossbach. Odd have some tough fixtures after their blank so I would lean towards keeping Ruud's attacking threat.
