Can a price drop boost Harry Kane’s FPL appeal?

Harry Kane (£11.0m) has been handed an eye-catching starting price by the Fantasy Premier League decision-makers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker is available for £11.0m going into Gameweek 1, the cheapest he has started a season since 2016/17.

Kane’s 2018/19 ended in frustrating fashion for the England centre-forward, with two separate ankle ligament injuries forcing him to miss ten of Spurs’ final 16 Premier League fixtures.

A total of 160 points represented his lowest FPL score in five seasons as a first-team regular in north London, although 23 attacking returns was more than any of his teammates managed and his points-per-match average of 5.71 was the second-best among FPL forwards in 2018/19.

With Kane’s starting price dropping by £1.5m on what it was 12 months ago, does he again become one of the more attractive premium options in the game?

The Members’ article below delves into the data to analyse Kane’s season and ponder his worth.

he went like 25 goals, 29, 30 then 17 last season so back to 25+ would be lovely

Unless injured I'm pretty sure Kane will be in my gw1 team.

I'm not seeing Aguero getting much of a mention at the moment - is that due to price / better options elsewhere? I'm struggling to look past him with them fixtures but Kane is admittedly tempting at that price.

In a straight choice between Aguero and Sterling most seem to be opting for the latter.

Like last season all will change when Aguero blasts off in the community shield.

I think Aguero is as good, if not a more better pick than Sterling. Only problem with Aguero is injury, but that can be fixed in a GW anyways.

However, it's interesting to see that their ownership is very similar on FPL. I agree that I don't see a lot about Aguero at the moment though.

For those who have Kane in their side: why do you think he has been a notoriously slow starter up to now and why do you think the 19/20 season will be different?

In his first three games (all in August), he scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist which isn't as bad as I previously thought. Has some good fixtures to start the season and he is a top striker and after a rest, I feel like he'll step it up and do well next season. All in all, it's gut feeling for me at the moment.

Kane is Kane, last season he was plagued with injuries, if he gets proper preseason under his belt, and the likes of Eriksen and Alli are fit and firing coupled with the juicy home fixtures, there are not many better options in the game than him.

Two thoughts on this. Kane is just one of those players who takes a while to get match fit. Bit like Grant Holt. Big bloke. Needs to work off the summer.

But Kane is also like Boxer, the carthorse from Animal Farm. Poch, and Southgate, have flogged him into the ground and he will never recover until he has a full summer off and then a proper pre season.

Which is where we are now. So if he fires in pre season I’ll take a punt for that price.

Anyone doing anything with the WAT/BHA season rotation? Thinking it can work for cheap 4th mid choices:

    Pickford
    Robbo / VVD / Laporte
    Salah / Sterling / Siggy / Capoue
    Arnie / Jota / King

    Button / Stephens / Targett / Gibson

It would be better suited for rotating defenders rather than midfielders. The cheaper midfielders, despite having capabilities to score, are no guarantee to do it at home. In my opinion, it's too much of a punt, I would rather defenders due to higher potential of points through clean sheets.

Wow the bitterness is palpable - I know they say the truth can hurt, but it really does look to have left a particularly bad sting with you here... Perhaps that’s what has been preventing you from living up to your famous “quality over quantity” philosophy of late?

Either way, these negative emotions are not good for you Fantasy Gold - think positive, you’ll feel all the better for it 🙂

How are things with you anyways? Any plans for the big 16th? (It must be coming up soon right?!) 😉

Quality over quantity. It’s a common phrase. That one stung you badly as you can’t seem to let it go lad.

Bitterness? About what exactly? You posting 1000 word essays every day. Yeah mate, I’m seething. So jealous 😆

Much better - That’s the spirit, chin up, always positive 🙂

On your bitterness - Im afraid I’m not sure exactly from where its stemming, so I can’t really help you there - but it did seem to trigger quite visibly when you were called out on being an advocate of quality over quantity who couldn’t provide a single quality post?

Maybe you have one though & we just haven’t seen it??

I firmly believe you have one in you, we all do -you just have to believe in yourself Fantasy Gold - you can do it 😉

Townsend is reliable but only likely to tick over - the others have a much bigger upside.

I personally think there are better options that Gross and Lucas.

You could downgrade Digne to Coleman, or one of TAA or Robertson to VVD, and upgrade Gross to Zaha, for instance.

Nor owning Salah is a big risk, not only because of his potential for hauls but also due to his ownership.

However, obviously, as a whole it seems to me a very decent team!

Not bad, Wan-Bissaka could be decent but I don't trust United's defence at the moment, they still need more strengthening in defence. Jorginho is punty but can work, it will be interesting to see his role through pre-season.

Overall its a solid and different team.

Personally I'm picking TAA and Robertson at the moment. I just feel like by picking them and Salah, you'll cover a lot of the scoring avenues. Potential penalties and set-pieces stand out to me, along with general open-play.

However in saying that, VVD is still a very good option if the extra 0.5m can be utilised elsewhere.

I've never posted an RMT. It loses a lot of its value once you've gauged posters' thoughts on the relevant players. It may be better to avoid being talked out of plans, once you've gotten some good second opinions on the individual options.

    Hey guys, RMT:

    Fab,
    TAA, Robbo, Laporte, Digne, Wan-B
    Salah, KDB, Zaha, Mili,
    Trollkaku

    4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.0

Im a big fan atm of going big at the back

2 too many United players for my liking.

I would only prefer one of Zaha or Mili, however the rest of the midfield is nice and I like most of the defence!

Fair play to you mate as lots of differentials - you’ll be flying high if Man U start well! Maybe too much money on bench? Shaw>AWB for attacking threat? Zaha & Mili needed? Maybe restructure to fit Bournemouth or Everton attackers?

TAA played 29 of 38 games last season. Reckon he will play less, about the same or more this season?

Definitely more, unless Liverpool go deep in many competitions. Missed a fair few of his games due to injury, and had slight rotation a the beginning of the season.

He continued to get better throughout the season, I'm expecting plenty from him this season.

Looks solid! Personally I would look at KDB for Sterling and upgrade Jorginho, however if you believe Jorginho will be a good FPL option then I would keep the foundations of this team.

The Salah Sterling Kane alternative I considered. Seem viable?

    Ryan
    TAA, VVD, Walker
    Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Zaha, Dendo
    Kane

    Button, Kelly, Reid, 4.5

    Cheers

It's alright, nice defence, and having Kane, Salah and Sterling is great. However, having to play Dendoncker and Reid/Kelly brings the team down in my opinion. I personally would like at going with KDB and upgrading one of them to have an overall stronger team.

        Thank you for your feedback.

I was considering the same. However I really would like to have Sterling...

        The KDB alternative:

        Ryan
        TAA, VVD, Coleman, Walker
        Salah, KDB, Siggy, Jorginho, Fraser
        Kane

        Button, Kelly, 4.5, 4.5

I also think that fitting Salah Sterling and Kane is too jeopardizing for the rest of the team.

What do you think about the following? It is the draft I am mainly considering.

        Ryan
        TAA, VVD, Walker, Coleman
        Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Zaha, Fraser
        King

        4, Kelly, 4.5, 4.5

        Cheers mate

Ryan is First choice (at least was last season 😛 )
Maybe 4.0 tag & having a certain GK if one miss out with Injuries/suspension the lure as Ryan is also popular

Apologies if this has been asked before but if Leicester do not sign Tielemans, would you re-consider Leicester assets (specifically Maddison in my case). I like their opening 4 fixtures but worry they’ll not be as effective without Tielemans.

Maddison output hindered by tielemans presence in some ways according to returns so I'd give a positive boost to maddison if no tielemans if anything

Lads, if it's not too much to ask, would you pick between these two team options? I know it might be boring for you, but I would indeed be extremely grateful.

    Team A:

    Pickford
    VVD / TAA / Mendy
    Salah / Siggy / Zaha / Maddie / Fraser
    Vardy / King

Bench: 4.0 gk, Aké, Bednarek, 4.5 striker.

    Pros: Strong midfield.
    Cons: No City attack coverage.

    _____________

    Team B:

    Ryan / 4.0
    VVD / TAA / Mendy / Coleman
    Salah / Siggy / Zaha / Maddie
    Agüero / King

Bench: 4.0 gk, Bednarek, 4.5 mid, 4.5 striker

    Pros: Kun, covering City attack
Cons: Ryan, Coleman but no Fraser, horrible bench.
