Team News

The headline FPL team news from Thursday’s press conferences

There were nine Premier League manager press conferences held on Thursday ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The headline team news came from Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp provided fairly positive news on Sadio Mane (£11.5m) ahead of Friday’s encounter with Norwich City.

Klopp said:

Looks fit. Yesterday was his first session with the team. Yesterday now with the team first time, looks absolutely OK, in good spirits. Yes he’s an option, but we will see.

The Reds’ boss said of James Milner (£5.5m):

Millie trained yesterday with the team, 100%. He will be fine.

The Reds opponents have problems at centre-half, with stoppers Christoph Zimmermann and Timm Klose (£4.5m) sidelined for Gameweek 1.

Defensive midfielders Alex Tettey and Ibrahim Amadou (both £4.5m) are also unavailable for tomorrow’s encounter.

On the subject of newly promoted clubs, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed a clean bill of health at today’s presser.

Dean Smith only ruled out James Chester (£4.5m), meanwhile, as Villa prepare to take on Spurs.

Robbie Brady (£5.5m) looks set to miss out for Burnley against Southampton, whose manager Ralph Hasenhuttl didn’t disclose any injury concerns.

Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m) was passed fit by Javi Gracia but Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) won’t be ready to feature against Brighton.

The Seagulls will be without Jose Izquierdo (£5.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£5.0m).

Mark Noble (£5.0m) hasn’t recovered from a dead leg in time to face Manchester City but Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) is fit to face the reigning champions.

We’ll have updates on Friday’s 11 press conferences in advance of the 19:00 BST deadline.

Think he may as they have a backline injury crisis. He's my last sub so shouldn't need him.

    final decision for me now:
    A. Play 4 at the back with Zinchencko or KWP

    Trying the RP

I am set with this team:

    Heaton
    Robbo, VVD, Digne, Zinch
    Salah, Sterling, Moura, Perez
    Wilson, Jota
    (Button) (Dendo, Greenwood, Lundstram)

But then I happened upon this sexy little number and don’t know what to do:

    Heaton
    Robbo, ZOUMA, COLEMAN, Zinch
    Salah, Sterling, MCGINN, Perez
    Wilson, KANE
    (Same bench)

    Stick or twist...?

A punt for the first few GWs. Zinchenko doesn't convince me and can see Cancelo or Walker playing there instead.

Cancelo has played LB 5 times in 170 appearances. Zinch is a LB. Walker is the one at threat

Not saying Zinch is amazing but it’s a way into any MCI clean sheets

Bournemouth odds AGAINST to beat Sheffield United on Saturday.

I would have thought 8/11 would have been a more reflective price for this game.

2 defenders with a short shelf life. So you’re committed to early transfers there before any other team changes. I’d get rid of one for more long term choice

Of all the deadline day transfer, Besic might be the most relevant for FPL. It seems like there are no 4.0m defenders left who is likely to start games.

Is a 4.5m FWD with a higher TSB% likely to drop in price quicker than one with a lower TSB% ? Wondering if it is better to avoid Greenwood as bench fodder?

    1. Klaren
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

Yes but price drop for min value players tend not to be very quick so I wouldn't worry that much about it. As far as I know he is the only 4.5m striker who is likely to get some minutes throughout the season coming in as a sub and 1 point is better than 0, so I'd still keep him.

Ok. To start the season (because I’m not yet convinced by any 6.0mids):

    A) Haller Jota (433)
    B) Wesley Richarlison/Sig (442)
    — Both leave 0.5 ITB. In B I can’t decide on the mid.
    C)Jota Richarlison (442)
    — less keen on this as there’s no real punt in there, but another option
