FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 3

It is a short but important week coming up for Fantasy Premier League managers.

There are some big decisions to be made ahead of Gameweek 3 as some prepare to spend their two free transfers, others consider the Wildcard and that’s before we even get on to the captaincy.

So we’ve put together another panel of fine FPL minds to help you with any dilemmas.

Who’s on the panel this week?

Simon March – Former FPL champion who won the title in 2014/15 and has provided excellent advice ever since.

Always Cheating – The USA’s number one FPL podcast duo comprising of Josh and Brandon.

Gregor – Long-time Fantasy Football Scout moderator.

Doosra – Fantasy Football Scout user with some rather popular custom tables.

Villa's Trezeguet has some great attacking stats in the members area but I can't say I've seen him play. Is he any good? Great fixtures for Villa in six of the next seven.

    A. Keep Barnes, KDB, and LaPorte

    B. Switch out A. for Kane, Mount, and Zinchenko

    C. Pukki & Mane > Firmino & Son

Current team if that matters for the decision above:

    Pope/Button

    Digne/VVD/LaPorte/Dunk/Lundstram

    RMWCT

    Adrian (4.0)
    Walker Digne AWB Lundstram/Kelly
    Sterling Mane KDB Son Martial
    Pukki (Wickham Greenwood)

Yeah not optimal to play Lundstram or Kelly every week but could be worth it. Can't decide whether Son or Martial should leave for Lanzini/Mount to fund a better defence, so I have them both and sacrifice the defence a bit. Thoughts?

    1. Stoneleigh
      • 13 Years
      5 years, 2 months ago

Your midfield is a dream, but the lack of punch upfront is a concern for me. People on this site disagree (with little evidnece to back it up) but there's plenty of value in cheap and cheerful defence right now so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

      1. lekalatch

          5 years, 2 months ago

Sure, go lighter on defence, bolster a second forward a little and be intelligent with your FTs and you’ll be fine. Here’s my WC team:
          Patrício (4.0)
          Lund, Coleman, Dunk, AWB, Kelly,
          Martial, Sterling, KDB, Mane, Cantwell,
          Kane, Barnes, Wickham

Same as mine but I have Mount instead of Son and used that money to include the 2 Liverpool full backs

      Happy with 451?

I am undecided but none of the strikers appeal to me

      1. lekalatch
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Exactly, none of the strikers is tempting except Pukki. The midfield is where value lies I believe. Yeah I've had recent drafts with Mount/Trossard for Son and a better defence, but I really love Son and thinks he could be very good...

Going to a 451 on a wildcard would be a mistake, right?

None of the strikers appeal to me, apart from Pukki after his great start but how many goals is he realistically going to score this season?

Kane and Auba I do like but 11 million is a lot when Sterling, Salah and Mane will outscore them and even having KDB who can keep up will allow you the extra to upgrade the defence.

    Thoughts?

As somebody who's main league is a H2H league with a load of mates, its really useful to be able to see what your opponent has done. Also can be great, to fool your opponent if you are playing a chip etc.

Hopefully, when looking at other people's Points pages this will only show the Team Values and Numbers of Transfers up to the latest deadline, and not show what has changed since that deadline during the current game-week.

I hope it will also show the Transfer History up to that latest deadline.

Some are for and some against them giving us the info about other teams for the current game-week, but info up to the latest deadline would be useful to all of us without allowing spying on changes during the current game-week.

Whatever the OP wanted, I would prefer the latter.

Hopefully that is the way fpl will do this going forward RL.

If they just cave to the pressure to make it the way it was before well then fpl will have missed a opportunity to make the game fairer and more interesting imo.

All of what you've asked for is currently available on the FPL website. Gameweek history shows the number made and cost of transfers, and the /transfers/ page is available but not actually linked for every player.

Both of those bits of data are only for the previous gameweek, not the current live gameweek.

So if they are "introducing" just that, then they aren't changing anything except adding some links and placing existing text in a different place.

...lucky you...I got a stupid answer to my question as to why Triggerlips had a TV of 100.3m after the first game in week 1...

FPL basically waited until they corrected the error and then simply said : ''according to our records the team had a value of 100m at the end of week 1"....they will never admit to any hiccups.

If they could introduce this by the last gameweek, so I can use least transfers as a tie breaker in case of a draw, that would be great.

GOOD! I knew it had been disabled because of server issues. Will welcome them back with open arms. Part of the fun is comparing your squad value with your opponents or seeing how many hits they may have taken.

They have added an asterix saying “Values at the last deadline” so it looks like spying won’t be available week to week.

    who should I choose here:

A – Sigurdsson, Rashford (IN), Firmino

    or

    B – Mount (IN), Rashford (IN), Kane(IN) – 4 pt hit

I just really want Kane at home to Newcastle

    Thoughts??

Started rather well, yet I have some issues:

Don’t like the double pool in the back, Perez about to fall in price and Haller a question mark.

    Should I :

    A swap Robertson to AWB
    B Perez to Trossard
C Haller to Rashford (have martial)

Salah + King to Son + Kane (-4)?

Had a pretty poor start and instead of chasing points I want to try get ahead of the curve.

People with a top 10k finishes 10 years ago making them, people who were once ranked top 10k at one point in a particular season doing them.

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that some of the ‘big names’ in FPL (including certain contributors to this site) are living on former FPL glory and are well behind the curve these days.

    Funny game, this one.

Ranked 2,137,222 after GW 1; decided that I'd hold firm.

Sunday rolls around for GW 2. Barkley doesn't play. Vardy blanks again...and I panic sell Barkley, Townsend, and Vardy for Ceballos, Cantwell, and Kane for a -4 in fear of price drops.

Yet, after the dust settles, I've moved up to 959,840 after GW 2.

Just kind of funny, the fantasy football "logic"...

    My "piece de WC resistance"...

    Pope
    Zinch AWB Digne
    Son KdB Sterling Ceballos Martial
    (C) Kane Pukki

    Bench: 4m fodder

No Liverpool obviously the big one. Had Mané but hesitant to captain him. Meanwhile Kane is 0.5m cheaper, better fixtures and is certainly captainable.

    Thoughts?

Could be, they looked better when he came off

Anyone looking at Cantwell for the 4th mid spot? Rotates nicely with Lundstram to allow a 3-4-3/4-3-3 rotation.

I've got him, but not as my 5th (not 4th). I'd be a bit hesitant to run with him as a 4th midfielder, to be honest.
