Captain Poll

Manchester City assets set to compete for Gameweek 4 captaincy

Manchester City assets are expected to compete amongst each other for the Gameweek 4 captaincy in the coming days.

Pep Guardiola’s men host Brighton on Saturday afternoon, one of the most appealing fixtures for premium Fantasy assets.

The Seagulls have looked a little fragile at the back in their last two outings, against West Ham and Southampton, and conceded four times the last time they faced Manchester City, admittedly under a different manager.

However, the reigning champions are in scintillating attacking form, with Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) proving a reliable source of points in the first three Gameweeks.

In that time, he is joint-top in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, his five strikes level with Norwich forward Teemu Pukki (£6.9m).

However, those in possession of Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) will almost certainly be considerin the forward after he finished as the top-scoring player from Manchester City’s recent win over Bournemouth.

The Argentinian played 90 minutes for the first time this season at the Vitality Stadium, which coincided with Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) being ruled out with a hamstring problem.

That should keep the Brazilian out until after the international break, so Aguero’s route into the team against Brighton is unrivalled, and his chances of minute-management by Guardiola will be reduced too.

Also looking like a viable candidate is Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), who recorded his fourth assist of the campaign against Bournemouth.

While he is not quite as explosive as his colleagues further forward, the Belgian midfielder has a history of being a reliable source of points when he is a regular in the team.

Many of the other premium options face tougher tasks in Gameweek 4, although that’s not to suggest there won’t be attacking returns on offer.

Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend, to face a Clarets defence that has got back to its best under Sean Dyche this season.

However, the Reds have scored an average of three goals per game in 2019/20, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) involved in four of them so far.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mané (£11.5m) was the key man against Southampton, while Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has been a constant threat for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Spurs go head-to-head in the north London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Following a blank against Newcastle, interest in Harry Kane (£11.1m) may be low, but he does have a good record against the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) has attacking returns in each Gameweek so far this season.

Alternatively, Pukki might garner some support for Gameweek 4 after an excellent start to the season.

With five goals in three matches, a match-up with the West Ham defence could reap rewards for the Norwich man.

You can vote in our latest poll below, or in the sidebar of our website.

Also, Joe and David will be discussing the Gameweek 4 captaincy in a live video on our YouTube channel at 12:30pm on Tuesday lunch-time.

Used my 1FT This week to get Perez out, I'm now stuck with the Kane Dilemma.

    Patricio

    VVD - TAA - Digne - Zinch

    Salah - Mount - KDB

    King - Kane - Pukki

    Button / Dendonker / Hayden / Kelly

Do I ditch Kane for Aubameyang, or someone like Haller.. And upgrade KDB to Sterling?

I think you need either Sterling or Aguero. Would point towards Sterling more so.

    Pope Button

    Zinchenko KWP* TAA Digne Lundstram

    KDB Sterling Deondocker Salah Martial*

    King* Jota* Greenwood

1FT with 0.4ITB - worth saving the WC for now and taking a hit or two over the next few weeks to sort out?

Shaw's out for a month. That means Young starts often

Does this cancel Man U defence out completely for you? They've had good defensive stats so far...

Young is a good deliverer of set pieces, something Utd have lacked in their first XI recently. Could give Slabhead some attacking returns.

No huge difference in defence between Shaw and Young imo. Obviously Shaw's youthfulness helps but United as a whole haven't been bad in defence so far. If you have 1 Utd defender, I will keep.

    A) VVD + Mcginn + Kane (-4)...and go without Salah unless i WC
    B) Perez + King + Kane (-4) with the possibility of doing Perez + Kane >> Salah + Wickham (-4) in gw5 and start Lundstrum every gw
    C) Lundy + King + Salah (-8)

Smooooth! Took a hit for Perez, Moura, Wilson to Mcginn, KDB, Pukki. (-4). Only 2 players blanked. Patience for Haller worked out.

Had a very rough/smooth week, all of my own reckless doing.

Rough: Salah (C), Vardy, Fraser -> Sterling (C), Pukki, Martial for a -8 was a bust, despite all of my recruits returning.
Still think Sterling will outscore Salah over the next few, but I'm already looking at how to get Mo back in for Martial.
Also the usual double Liverpool defence roughness and Pope's loss of CS + bonus in the 98th minute.

Smooth: Completely lucked into it, but in thinking I had enough cash ITB to be safe from price rises/falls I waited on Wilson -> Kane (C) -4. Wilson's fall priced me out of it, thank god.

      Rough:

Was doing great before that Jimenez pen. Benched Heaton for Pope, like many others. Pope was on for a couple of BAPS before that happened so it's a 6 point swing.

      Smooth:

Held on to Haller through two weeks of roughs, brought in Pukki. Kept Salah (but didn't cap him). Can't argue with 71.

Smooth - Jiminez's penalty and accompanying baps, which also wiped out Pope's points, who I don't have, turned it into a decent gameweek.

Rough: all my defence no CS. Double Pool defence looking a problem. Pope losing CS and bonus in the last minute. Wrong captain pick again.

Smooth: Martial and Pukki in very early paid off and transfer rises caught. 59 points total with Salah and Sterling.

5 minutes before the deadline I changed captaincy from Sterling to Salah. Just fancied Liverpool to smash Arsenal again....

Ended up on 69 points with Pukki, Martial and Trent chipping in as well.

Huge green from 480k to 70k, glad I went with my gut this time!

Rough: Bringing in Kane (C) for -4 (particularly painful with the denied penalty)

Smooth: Still finished on 62 points. The other 2 moves in mini-WC payed for the hit. Wilson (5), Perez (2) & Moura (2) > (K)ane (4), Cantwell (7) & Mount (8). So 6 points up after hit. Others to deliver for me: Heaton, Salah, Sterling & Vardy

      I'm 2 ML's:
ML1: Rank 1,3,4 sold Salah, I was ranked#2 and captained him, I'm now rank1 with 20 pts difference.
ML2: My direct competitor sold Salah, we were almost equal in points, now I'm up by 20.

So a Big shoutout to Salah for trolling all the sellers out there 😀

I also did donkey, vardy, robertson ---> Martial, Pukki, Wan Bisaka +0.7m
I took a hit, but saved cash, I'm happy with these transfers so far hoping Martial returns from injury and expecting return from bisaka soon. double-up in liverpool defense doesnt make much sense this season imo

33pts to start. (K)ane, Pope combo in final ten minutes. No pen for Spurs and goal conceded for Burnley. Siggy, Digne, Zinchenko, VVD, KWP all delivered 2pts or less. Worst GW for 2 years....

Smooth: transfers of Pérez, C Wilson & VVD > KBD, Pukki and Lundstram for -4 still made me a small 3 points profit.

Rough: Kane (C) like many, although a non Salah owner here so not many better alternatives.

42 points, many red arrows but still managing to stay inside top 100k...just!

      Nice week apart from Kane(c)!

Smooth: Both trades worked out ok, Wilson>Pukki and Tielemans>Martial. Salah top point scorer, KdB, Trent assist.

Rough: Kane(c) fail, could see it coming, but if I’d have gone KdB I’d only have been 3 points better off. Liverpool conceding with double defence, Jota failing, played Walker Peters over Lundstram but only worked out a couple of points better anyways.

55 for the week, second green up to 500k.

Smooth: Tom Foster, the new leader of our FFS Members mini-league, is now 76th in the world without the assistance of any chips or wildcards.

He is an experienced player who finished 48th in the world in 2017/18.

      He took a 4 point hit in GW3 to replace Guilbert(5) and Perez(2) with Soyuncu(5) and Cantwell(7).

The main contributors to his GW3 score of 70 were Sterling(C)(16), Salah(15) and Pukki(11).

Similar to one on the previous page. Very good team.

Zinchenko played a cross which KDB missed kick for the first Aguero goal, he did really well offensively imo. Mendy coming back (when though?) may be an issue after the IB though but Zinchenko may well be a mainstay all season long given Mendy's injury history.

    Pope

    Pope
    AWB - VVD - Laporte - Digne
    Mane - Sterling - KDB - Martial - Cantwell
    Pukki

    (4.0 - Barnes - Lundy - Wickham)

    If Martial is out:
    A) Save FT
    B) Martial to Lanzini/Mount/McGinn
    C) Martial & Wickham to Haller & Dendoncker (-4)

I'm on a similar WC team. Not sure about Cantwell as 4th midfielder. With him in XI you are amplifying the risk & return of Pukki. They are a newly promoted team after all. Also you can only captain one of Raz and Kun. For these reasons my draft is upgrade D. Luiz to

        1. The only non time limited 4m defender option is Lundstram, yeah? When are we expecting sakho back to replace Kelly?
        2. Do we reckon ayew will get selected ahead of benteke now? Any reason why he didn't feature gw2?

          1 don't know
2 Roy admitted he made a mistake for gw2

          1. Probably right. Altho' Rico may get a few games depending on Daniel's knee problem.
Hanley might keep his place although Canaries won't get any clean sheets.

          2. Doesn't really matter - both are FPL anathema!

Lloyd Kelly could well be back before Daniels, it's a suspected dislocated kneecap isn't it? And only shortly after he'd had knee surgery. Either way, Rico is still time-limited

Yeah. if anyone's looking at 2x4.0/4.1 defenders, they're hanging an albatross around their necks.

That's a bit harsh on ayew, he has scored 7 a couple of seasons in a poor side. If the choice is him vs 4.5m defender as a sub, it's a bit of a closer call.

For the sake of 0.5 I think I prefer Ayew to Wickham on my bench.

To do Perez + Greenwood -> Cantwell + Haller (-4)?

        Will give me

        Pope
        TAA, VVD, Digne
        Sterling, Salah, Martial, Cantwell
        Wilson, Pukki, Haller

        Button, Dendoncker, Lundstram, Montoya

Both are terrific value. If Cantwell dries up he's ideal bench fodder.

That means you could end up with 4 bench fodders though could be tricky to sort .

One of Donkers/Cantwell/Lundy//Monty will always have a nice fixture.
I might wait a week to avoid the hit, but it's a decent squad, that.

Pogba is dealing with things rather well considering he's:

        - Undoubtedly the best player in the team and should be playing for a team winning trophies yet didn't hand in a transfer request, although he wishes to leave
        - Racially abused by his own fans
        - The only player to be confronted by fans post Cardiff loss
        - Blamed for not doing 3 midfielder's job
        - Criticised by club legends on a weekly basis
        - Called selfish for missing a penalty, yet when Rashford misses penalties are considered 50/50

Sure. All good reasons not to have him in your squad!

Exactly. He's by far the best best player in our team and yet he is the most criticised.

Yeah to be fair those are pretty miserable working conditions, I know I wouldn't show up for work if it was me and you'd think there are lots of other players who'd be demanding a move in those circumstances.

Toxic situation, would've been better for everyone if it was resolved over the summer

Seriously. Add that he's not playing his preferred position.

Always thought of him as a brat, but seems to be proving me wrong. Putting in a real shift.

I was one of those who thought he was like that too, but he's the opposite. I don't think many players would be handling themselves the way he is.

To be racially abused by your own fans yet not down tools is admirable.

re: Rashford's penalty miss, the punditry on Match of The Day was absurd.

"That's so unlucky" and "At least he took it with conviction" were the comments from Ian Wright and Danny Murphy.

They'd have wanted Pogba hanging from the gallows for that.
