Captain Poll

Manchester City assets set to compete for Gameweek 4 captaincy

Manchester City assets are expected to compete amongst each other for the Gameweek 4 captaincy in the coming days.

Pep Guardiola’s men host Brighton on Saturday afternoon, one of the most appealing fixtures for premium Fantasy assets.

The Seagulls have looked a little fragile at the back in their last two outings, against West Ham and Southampton, and conceded four times the last time they faced Manchester City, admittedly under a different manager.

However, the reigning champions are in scintillating attacking form, with Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) proving a reliable source of points in the first three Gameweeks.

In that time, he is joint-top in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, his five strikes level with Norwich forward Teemu Pukki (£6.9m).

However, those in possession of Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) will almost certainly be considerin the forward after he finished as the top-scoring player from Manchester City’s recent win over Bournemouth.

The Argentinian played 90 minutes for the first time this season at the Vitality Stadium, which coincided with Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) being ruled out with a hamstring problem.

That should keep the Brazilian out until after the international break, so Aguero’s route into the team against Brighton is unrivalled, and his chances of minute-management by Guardiola will be reduced too.

Also looking like a viable candidate is Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), who recorded his fourth assist of the campaign against Bournemouth.

While he is not quite as explosive as his colleagues further forward, the Belgian midfielder has a history of being a reliable source of points when he is a regular in the team.

Many of the other premium options face tougher tasks in Gameweek 4, although that’s not to suggest there won’t be attacking returns on offer.

Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend, to face a Clarets defence that has got back to its best under Sean Dyche this season.

However, the Reds have scored an average of three goals per game in 2019/20, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) involved in four of them so far.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mané (£11.5m) was the key man against Southampton, while Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has been a constant threat for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Spurs go head-to-head in the north London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Following a blank against Newcastle, interest in Harry Kane (£11.1m) may be low, but he does have a good record against the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) has attacking returns in each Gameweek so far this season.

Alternatively, Pukki might garner some support for Gameweek 4 after an excellent start to the season.

With five goals in three matches, a match-up with the West Ham defence could reap rewards for the Norwich man.

You can vote in our latest poll below, or in the sidebar of our website.

Also, Joe and David will be discussing the Gameweek 4 captaincy in a live video on our YouTube channel at 12:30pm on Tuesday lunch-time.

What has happened to Wood? Wasn't he a beast in pre-season, and now it seems to be the Barnes show... anyone expecting to see a shift in this at all or is Barnes really passing the eye test for people who have seen the games?(as his stats clearly pass the test). FYI not interested in getting Wood in or anything like that, just curious, and if Barnes continues this stella form then might have to try and squeeze him in. Cheers!

I just had a quick look at the past two seasons and Wood has actually scored 21 more points than Barnes even though he played 327 minutes less. Definitely the Barnes show this year it seems though

    Patricio

    VVD - TAA - Digne - Zinch

    Salah (c) - Mount - KDB

    Kane - King - Pukki

Subs: Button / Dendonker / Kelly / Hayden

Or do i take a -4 to bring in either Abraham or Barnes for King?

With Eriksen's creativity, he gets no service so has to come deep to look for the ball. No surprise he doesn't enjoy it at the moment. He'll enjoy Arsenal though.

      1. have you seen cyan

Poch might go but Kane won’t be going anywhere. They will want crazy money for Kane, around 200mil. There is very few clubs in the world who can afford that or want him. Can you see him going abroad? Doubt it so that only leaves a Man City and Man U, ofc city won’t want him and Man U well that ain’t going to happen.

        1. RichardNixon

Fair enough. You are right about Kane potentially getting priced out of a move. Money aside, I could see him at Man Utd but that's unlikely. I reckon its an end of an era for Pochetinho's Spurs though. He's done an exceptional job but I don't think he can take them any further than he has. They won't win the league and Champions League final is about as good as it gets for them. Maybe an FA or League Cup but even then there's five other big sides, plus fixture congestion so that's a tough ask for any side. If a job becomes available at a bigger club I reckon Pochetinho will be all over it next summer.

Quite possibly - I just don't like transferring out players with decent form and a run of a few blue fixtures ahead. Had his penalty been a few inches the other way at the weekend, nobody would be getting rid. Not saying definitely keep - just saying I would find it difficult parting with him.

I looked at him yesterday and I think he is a good option, but looking at his previous seasons he just isn’t that good for returns imo. If I was getting a West Ham player, would be anderson, Antonio or Haller in no particular order. And probably not even Antonio tbh unless he showing some good form

He has been out for ages with injury and is playing just behind Haller and has got returns in 2/3 so far. I think early season he is worth a shot at his price particularly if you've got the two absolute ballers next to him in Sterling and Salah. I wouldn't go near Anderson, has never really impressed me.

Agree. He didn't play last season and season before he was second fiddle to payet?. Plus Haller likes hold the ball up and get assists also so our attacking mids will get more chances than before. Anderson is mercurial at best. Lanzini about to reportedly get a new 100 k a week contract, he's 27? Just been called up again to the Argentine squad and he's on free kicks I believe. I'm hoping for big things for him this year, however, I am personally biased as I think he's our best player!

Using the mantra "Only WC when your team needs it" - I would say your team probably needs it.

True but for that money should he not be doing more? A return is better than no return, of course.

If you have both Sterling and Aguero who is the best captain option? Am thinking Aguero as Jesus is out injured and he hasn't been selected for the Argentina friendlies so shouldn't be hooked early.

    A) Captain Aguero (BHA)
    B) Captain Sterling (BHA)

      Aguero

The only slight caveat is Brighton are more susceptible out wide than centrally

Definitely captain aguero has most teams near the top probably won't have aguero as he's very awkward to fit in unless wild carding. If sterling explodes and aguero doesn't at least you have half the points covered.

Am I bonkers to consider vardy home to Bournemouth as my captain this week?

Alternatives are Salah, KDB and pukki

Although I am tempted by pukki as west ham are leaky

Also tempted by lanzini as Norwich are leaky also

Like the short term fixtures but not sure I back them enough to spend 5.5 on one of their defenders especially when they have 4.0/4.5 options

Too early to say, Everton the only team with more than one clean sheet so far. I agree they offer a lot of value if there are some that can bring in clean sheets reasonably consistently

  26. Carlton_Goal

    Pope
    TAA Robbo Digne Zinchenko
    Salah Sterling Siggy Trossard
    Haller Pukki

    Button Lundstram Dendonker Greenwood

    1FT, 0.3ITB

Worth moving Robbo to a 5.5 defender to get KDB for Siggy? Or just do Siggy > Martial/Mount? Or anything else more urgent?

    Have 2 FT:

    A. Mane & Jota- to KDB & Haller
    B. Mane & Rashford to Aguero & Martial (if fit) or other mid max 8.1
    C. Keep Mane

Currently on Greenwood. Could well score against Southampton if he stands in for Martial this weekend.
