Is David Silva the solution to doubling up on Man City attack?

The success of differential options so far this season has helped many of us get onto Fantasy Premier League bandwagons before they became fashionable.

Mason Mount (£6.2m) duly delivered in Gameweek 3 and became the latest Fantasy Football Scout differential pick to graduate into a potential template option.

His ownership has also soared by 10% in the last seven days as FPL managers seek to leverage his potential.

It’s also nice to see that two of our former picks Teemu Pukki (£7.0m) and Ashley Barnes (£6.6m) are now among the top four scoring FPL players at this early stage of the season.

Whether they can continue to punch above their weight is another question but it goes to show how important it is to identify such players early on as they begin to show glimmers of promise.

With this same aspiration, here are three low-owned players worth considering for Gameweek 4…

David Silva

David Silva could come back into fashion if he can start matches regularly for Man City

Price: £7.4m

Ownership: 4.7%

GW4 Opponent: Brighton and Hove Albion (home)

In years gone by, it would have been unthinkable to consider David Silva (£7.4m) a differential but that is exactly what he has become.

No doubt you will already have a premium attacking Manchester City asset at hand in the form of Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling and, if that’s the case, you may have been scratching your head over how to double-up on their attack. Silva could be the solution to that.

There aren’t many other players in FPL that have delivered at least a dozen attacking Fantasy returns (goals and assists) in the last six consecutive campaigns. In fact, over the last two seasons, he averages an attacking return for every 142 minutes played so Silva’s pedigree is clear for all to see.

However, the biggest concern over the mesmeric midfielder is rotation in this his final season at Manchester City.

It is worth noting though that Silva featured in 85% of Premier League games under Pep Guardiola, a period in which he has scored 19 goals and provided 30 assists.

With Vincent Kompany’s departure in May, David Silva is now the most senior figure in the team and, while he has made it known that he will be leaving at the end of the season, he will no doubt be looking to sign off on a high.

His two assists from last week should serve as a reminder of his potency and importance to Manchester City. It was clear that Silva was selected to help break down a stubborn Bournemouth structure, which may be important with Brighton coming to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson has two spectacular goals from range so far this season

Price: £6.0m

Ownership: 2.5%

GW4 Opponent: Leicester City (away)

With two goals in his last two games, it seems as if Harry Wilson (£6.0m) may be flying under the radar.

He made a name for himself under the tutelage of Frank Lampard last season in the Championship when he scored 18 goals in 49 competitive games and has made an almost instant impact with his loan stint at Bournemouth.

Of course, rotation is a concern when considering that he’s played just over 120 minutes of football in the first three Gameweeks. But during that short time he’s registered seven attempts at goal.

Can Eddie Howe really afford to bench him now when he’s so heavily involved in an attack-focused team?

Aside from competition of places in midfield, perhaps the lack of minutes can also be explained by Wilson being gradually integrated into the first-team setup. After all, he hadn’t started a single Premier League game until two weeks ago.

Buying him in FPL at this stage is obviously a calculated risk and he may only be worth considering as a genuine fifth midfield option if you’re currently set on a solid 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 formation.

Bournemouth have a generous fixture run throughout September. Before then, their next match is against Leicester who have only kept one clean sheet in their last five Premier League games. I wouldn’t put it past him to cause more havoc against the Foxes.

Joelinton

Joelinton scored the only goal of Newcastle’s win over Spurs in Gameweek 3

Price: £5.9m

Ownership: 1.8%

GW4 Opponent: Watford (home)

It definitely says a lot about a club when they have an unsettled pre-season and yet somehow defy the odds to secure their first win in a match that everyone expected them to lose.

This was in no small part to Newcastle United’s new Brazilian signing, Joelinton (£5.9m) who showed his composure by successfully converting one of his team’s three shots on target.

This backs to the wall performance showed lots of character and it may be just the platform that he and his team-mates need to build from here. At present, Joelinton has no other rivals to challenge him for his spot up top at Newcastle. With that said, he was subbed off early against Tottenham and could be a minor doubt for this weekend.

But can Steve Bruce afford to stifle Newcastle’s momentum by not picking his proven matchwinner if he is just short of 100% fitness? Hopefully, the midweek rest will be sufficient for his recovery.

The Toon Army’s next match is at home to a hapless (and winless) Watford team that have conceded seven goals in their opening three games.

It’s just the kind of match that Joelinton needs to continue to demonstrate his capabilities, even if he is unable to play the entire 90 minutes.

he's young so potential to improve. Norwich fans seem to think its not just a flash in the pan, and can see a great all round improvement from last season where his attacking were poor.

I wouldn't expect him to put up many goals. He does look like he can sustain xA output with 2.5 key passes per 90.

Apparently a knock he finished the game with. Wasn't really mentioned so it's bit of a gamble, last week Gibbs White played instead of Donks, so could be the same this week, or he could play bit of a 50/50

      Bottomed Last Page:
      Pope | Heaton
Digne | Van Dijk | KWP* | Dunk | Rico
      Salah | Sterling | Martial * | Lucas Moura | Dendoncker *
      King | Pukki | Haller

      1FT, 0.4 in the bank.
      - Lucas Moura is probably getting benched this week
      - Martial is out
      - Dendonker is unlikely
      - KWP is out
      - Rico 50/50 start
      - Dunk is away to Man City

      A) Martial, Lucas Moura, KWP -> Mount, KDB + 4.6 Def (-8)
      B) Martial or LM -> Mount, KWP -> Zinc / Laporte ( -4 )
      C) Martial -> Mount for free, gamble on Rico, LM and if it fails take Dunks Man City minus points.

On a W/C and final decision for the next few weeks:

      Ederson + VVD

      Or

      Pope + TAA + £1.1 ITB

(Rest of defense is Digne, Emerson, Soyuncu, Lundstram), so no City cover without Ederson

If you had both Martial and KWP would you take a hit to get rid of either?

        Full team is:

        Ederson (fodder)
        Diop KWP VVD Digne (Rico)
        Sterling Kdb Martial Salah (Dendondecker)
        Barnes Pukki (Wickham)

        Thanks

I’m thinking maybe Mount in for Martial or even Mings in for KWP

I meant Martial to mount. to bring in Salah. Also free up money to look at some other moves in the coming weeks.

          I'm tempted, it's basically this week's version of Auba -> Kane (c) -4 I did last week 😀

Looking at him, Lanzini just feels less risky at the moment.

Yes this Aguero or third good midfielder is tricky. I think to fit Aguero in well on a wild card you have to downgrade Salah, and that is a step too far, so I vote B
