Which of Burnley’s FPL assets appeal for their favourable fixtures?

Burnley sit top of our Season Ticker for the next ten Gameweeks, with their first fixture after the international break kicking off a run of matches in which they meet only one of the ‘big six’ (a far from watertight Chelsea side) between now and the end of November.

Those Fantasy managers who place a lot of emphasis on favourable fixture runs will, therefore, be surely considering a move for a Burnley asset or two ahead of Gameweek 5.

Sean Dyche’s troops have had a tricky start to the campaign but haven’t disgraced themselves so far, following up a 3-0 win over Southampton with a battling defeat at Arsenal and then a 1-1 draw with Wolves – a game they really should have had won before Raul Jimenez‘s (£7.4m) last-gasp penalty.

The Clarets were outclassed against Liverpool in Gameweek 4 but the Reds and Manchester City are already starting to pull clear of the chasing pack and again look to be in a class of their own following their dominance in 2018/19.

There is plenty of encouragement for Fantasy managers, then, particularly as Burnley are free of the Europa League commitments that plagued them at the start of last season.

The Clarets’ form had picked up at the back-end of 2018/19 with Dyche going back to basics with a settled side and a 4-4-2, an approach he has carried into this campaign.

Our Members’ article below looks at who the stand-out Burnley performers have been this season, asking whether Ashley Barnes‘ (£6.7m) form can continue and whether Dyche’s side can keep a handful of clean sheets over the coming months.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 4

Choose one punt on the WC...

    A) Son

    B) Pépé

Got to be pepe. 2 weeks to make it or break it with perfect fixtures. The very definition of a differential gamble if ever I saw one... Low ownership, massive ceiling, good underlying stats but yet to haul, amazing fixtures. It could tank but I think its low-ish risk if you can cover a man city and Liverpool attacker and captain one of them

      Pepe.

The way I see it. Two weeks. wat AVL. Prime fixtures certainly better than Son's CPL lei. If it doesn't work out, you can easily switch to Son who then has: SOU bha WAT

I'm gonna risk it. You have to take some chances, and the underlying stats are there. His finishing and crossing was a bit wayward, but he gets in the right positions and has plenty of chances. If he was on target against Spurs and bagged a goal as well, I think people would be thinking a lot differently about him.

What are best options in each position under 5mil?

    What would the template be?

    e.g.

    Adrian 4.6
    Lundstram 4.2, Soyuncu 4.5 , Tomori 4.5, Mings 4.5, Dunk 4.6
    Guendouzi 4.5, Cantwell 4.8, Dendoncker 4.5
    Ayew 5.1

    Pope 4.6, [three from] Sterling 12.3, Salah 12.5, Kane 11.0, Aguero 12.1
    Total value 98.3m

Could go Zouma but double Chelsea defence seem too maverick for this team 😉

Classic. FPL is about future points prediction. Both are playing higher up the pitch and the latter has had a goal disallowed by VAR and also scored in an Europa league fixture. I know who has the greater threat

You'll never get people to transfer in a 4,5m midfielder based on their future points prediction. People just follow the total points and catch the price rises.

I don't know the solution tbh. Take Cantwell... you may have missed his points but if you transfer him in, you're rewarded with TV rises. If you go with Dendoncker, then there's no guarantee of attacking returns and you're punished by possible price drops. I don't know how FPL can tackle this really.

I'm with you on looking ahead, but at budget prices it's a difficult sell.

Absolutely. Agree Hayden and Dendonker best options. And yet that it's very difficult to look beyond power 5 (if you can count mount as power?!) this year and every year since the rise of forwards classed as mids there are 5 mids that prove excellent value/captaincy options.

We are talking about which 4.5m mid is the best option, not which one will score the most goals or get the most assists. Not what 4.5m mids are about. First of all, you need your 4.5m mid to play 90 minutes, after 90 minutes after 90 minutes. Bonus points from these players is like gold if you need to play them. Both Hayden and Guendozi have bonus points already.

Dendo not better option than the above mentioned at this point.

We are talking about 4.5m mids right? They are unfortunately not the best players so I believe I am quite correct with my theory.

These are very fair points. And this should be a proper discussion. I agree they are insurance policy, hence hayden is good option as most secure imo. Guendouzi has been more forward looking in the last couple of games but would be interesting to see how often he is alongside xhaka and torreira. I don't think any are amazing or awful options. The point about TV is an interesting deciding factor as arguably this may have more bearing on future points than the minor differences of a player that hopefully you never have to rely on in your starting ix except in emergency

Rotating keepers is a f*cking headache. Pick one and leave him there. Pope the way to go.

Double up on Arsenal of Ceballos and Guendouzi is the first I have seen and a very bad idea.

Defence is not bad at all but compare their fixtures and select the best three 4.5m defenders to rotate with.

At the end of the day your choice. Go with what you feel is best.

it's your team and your preferences ofc, but just a few thoughts:

      1. Love the Wilson pick! I think you'll benefit from it while most others are selling
      2. I think the inclusion of Richarlison and (especially) Guendouzi is quite reactionary. While I love guendozi he's not a regular starter, and not a great fpl player. Dendoncker much better. (obviously Cantwell as well, but you'd need the extra money for that). And even though Richarlison scored a brace Everton under Silva have never been a team that rack up goals and if you want to go that route I'd go Iwobi and use that extra 2 million else where. Or Daniel James. Or David Silva. Or Yarmolenko or lanzini or Felipe A. Etc. you get the idea

      But overall, a great team!
      Good luck whatever you choose!

Posted this before in a dead thread so repost; Heres some pretty damning statistics about corners which I thought was quite interesting:

    - Since 2000 PL corners which led to a goal (indirectly) = 3.1%
    - Since 2000 PL corners which led to a goal (directly) = 1.2%
    - Across the big leagues 40% of corners dont clear the first man
    - Across the big leagues only 16% result in an attempt on goal, with only 7% of those attempts being on target

So does having a player who takes corners really add to their appeal? I doubt it, but maybe there is some exceptions to that rule. (TAA says hi)

Even if it doesn't end up with a goal, a corner can have a positive impact on the taker's BPS. How much I don't know.

The most successful corner strategy is actually palying it short, coming in second is playing it outwards (not into the box). Playing the cross directly into the box is easily the most redundant use of a corner.

I know the stats about a short corner being the best use of it. Despite this it always annoys me when my team take a short corner rather than whipping a cross in!

Those are average number tho, generally speaking.

We are better of looking at specific team or specific taker which is really good at capitalizing corners, above the average.

yea true for sure its across a massive amount of data that. Some teams like Crystal Palace if I remember correctly scored loads of goals from corners at some points, or did they concede loads? LOL I dont remember, one of the two...
If you have tall players playing it directly into the box is probably not as bad a strat as that data suggests

It's only damning if you're owning every PL corner taken since 2000.

If you (for instance) own TAA, it's how many of his corners that - beat the first man / creates a chance / leads to a goal that is interesting

I’m having a similar thought but for Robertson to TAA. I too would be priced out if he rises. Think I may take the risk and get him in.

I’ve just checked the fixtures. In the next 8 games Liverpool have Chelsea and Man U away and Spurs and City away. Could potentially lead to a benching or two if Klopp is worried about TAA’s defensive duties.

It really is a toughie?!! It's not actually for my FPL team as i actually already own both VVD & TAA in that which i'm well happy with, it's for my FanTeam squad which i'm going pretty well in and i'm 551st at present. I really am 50/50 on it?!! Anyone know how the price changes work with FanTeam in comparison to FPL at all as they are certainly not synchronised? Quite a few that have risen on FPL have remained lower on FanTeam and vice versa? For instance Matip is currently 5.6 on FanTeam but 5.4 on FPL?

Trent on +97% with FPL statistics.

I have Robertson, not other pressing transfers and only 0.1m in the bank.

Should I make the move tonight? If Trent rises he’s then out of my reach.

Much chance (injuries aside) the Trent gets rested after the internationals?

Kane and Sterling both have the ability to go mental, even for free im not sure I would do those moves. Kane>Aguero seems the right move and it probably is but Kane is still Kane, the guy has scored 4 goals in games before.

If you do a -8 for that maybe it pays off in the long run, but immediately? Doubt it

I think the odds are against you for an immediate return on the hits. IIRC Jesus will return which ought to hinder Aguero's mins.

What about Kane to PEA? Great stats and he's got nice fixtures.

This isn't meant as a dig at you, XL, you make very reasoned posts and give good advice.

I see people post, "I wouldn't do that move for a hit or even for free" all the time, yet they don't have the players the OP is proposing to sell.

Is Aguero a better option than Kane? Yes.
Is Salah a better option than Sterling? I'd say, yes. Others would say, no, and others would say you need both.

I have no problem with the OP taking a -8 if the moves improve his team. The problem comes if he's chopping and changing between big hitters, effectively chasing points.

Kane > Aguero most will agree with. Sterling is a very strong captain option this week, so be wary with that one.

I think the Kane > Aguero move for a -4 is kinda ok but not the -8. Besides isnt Mane better @ home then salah?

I own Sterling, and Salah btw no Kane or Aguero. If I was going to bring one it would be Aguero (no brainer), Spurs fan but Kane disappoints me too much. But if I had him I would be scared to lose him equally, I guess im of the view when you make your bed sleep in it.

My rivals who have Kane, well I hope they ditch him because he can be so damaging when he is in peak form and that game can be round the corner at any time.

I've seen enough and have got rid. I can't justify owning him at 11m ahead of Salah, Sterling, Mane, Aubameyang.

I should've waited until Spurs were clicking. Son might turn out to be the best option.

I would keep what you have. The thing is that we all want all the players, and especially the ones that have just scored big in the last gameweek. The truth is that we can't have them all. You just have to trust the players you do have. Sterling has already scored a hatrick this season and is quite capable of doing that again. Kane is Kane, he can score big in any game. I predicted him to score against Arsenal.

What would you expect to happen when Maguire plays Leicester next gameweek?

There's always some story that breaks: Vardy beats Maguire and finishes; Maguire scores vs ex-team mates and doesn't celebrate; Maguire sees red after chopping down Vardy through on goal...

He'll be the centre of something. I think I have to start him.

lol, well your heart seems set on Aguero so follow your heart. I have Dilva and hoping to get the best out of him but im aware that he may be a total fop if he gets few minutes :/
But the only reason I have Dilva is because im too poor for KDB haha

                    considered vardy instead of firmino?

would you captain Sterling or Aguero if you went B?

            Aguero

              then B

Disclaimer! I have A, but also Aguero.... only because I've made the ridiculous move of selling Sterling. It's probably a short term move but I feel more confident captaining Aguero. Salah and Aguero are the best captain options in the game, imo.

Thanks man currently I'm on B lol. The temptation is there to change to A though. But as stated.. aguero fear lol

I think A. Also gives you ‘One move’ city defence option should you want it, which B does not.

So your defence currently has no City and Max one pool. Which I guess figures given all the heavy hitters upfront.

Pope digne taa mings lunds Hanley
        Salah sterling cantwell ceballos/iwobi
        Barnes 4.5

So yea either aguero and silva to complete it or kdb and firm

Assume WC? And that you know that Firmino most likely won't start v Newcastle? (see my earlier posts)

How about KDB + Vardy? Guess you've already thought of that though

Yea I thought of that just dont like vardy fixtures. I believe aguero silva will start as they will be well rested. The problem though will be gw 6 after midweek ucl

Keep Kane or spread the funds?

    Pope
    Virgil, Digne, Lundstram, Trent
    Salah, Sterling, Ceballos, Mount,
    Pukki, Kane,

    Button, Cantwell, Montoya, Greenwood

    .6 itb.

Kane to Haller, but wait until you have 2 x FT's so you can spend the funds.

Greenwood to Ayew would give me another playing forward?

I look at the ticker & Harrys fixtures are better than most........Ericksen staying put should improve supply?

Yes, if you're happy with Kane, no need to move him on.

You have a strong starting 11 next GW so I'd probably save in that case.

      How many ft’s?

I’d be inclined to take a hit and either do VVD, Kane > Aguero, def or, Kane, Ceballos > Barnes/Haller, KDB
