FPL Double Gameweek 29 confirmed for Manchester City and Arsenal

Arsenal and Manchester City are set for two fixtures in the upcoming Double Gameweek 29.

The two sides will meet on the evening of Wednesday, March 11 at the Etihad Stadium.

That means Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta’s men each have the following fixtures in the Double Gameweek:

  • Manchester United v Manchester City
  • Manchester City v Arsenal
  • Arsenal v West Ham United
  • Manchester City v Arsenal

It may be short notice for Fantasy Premier League managers, with just a few days until the next deadline, but this announcement is sure to send shockwaves through the community.

Still the top-scoring Fantasy asset this season, Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) was among the three most-sold assets for Blank Gameweek 28 losing 330,000+ owners ahead of last week’s Friday night deadline.

Meanwhile, no player was transferred out by more managers than Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) for Blank Gameweek 28. Despite an EFL Cup final knock, Guardiola has confirmed the striker is fit and available for the next round of action.

These decisions may have been, in part, influenced by a probable lack of Blank Gameweek 31 fixture. But this Double Gameweek 29 announcement has thrown something of a spanner into the works for Fantasy managers hoping to spend the next few weeks preparing their teams for Blank Gameweek 31.

As ever, Fantasy managers may also be scratching their heads when it comes to assessing which Manchester City assets are likely to start both matches of a Double Gameweek.

Gameweeks 19 to 27

As you can see from the table above, De Bruyne is the only player to have started each of the last 10 matches for Manchester City.

Ederson (£6.0m) probably would have done the same were it not for his Gameweek 19 red card at Wolves but interest in his signature is not expected to be too high for this Double Gameweek.

As it is pitting Manchester City against their local rivals and Arsenal, both teams boasting revitalised attacks in recent weeks, clean sheet potential across the two matches is not too high.

Aguero has started on seven occasions, almost certainly sowing enough doubt to cast aspersions on his viability for Double Gameweek 29.

However, the eight starts and 673 minutes for Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m), as well as three goals and four assists during this period, could make him a powerful differential once again.

Is it time to invest in Arsenal assets after Gameweek 28? 6

However, Fantasy managers may find it easier to consider Arsenal options, especially as their first fixture of Double Gameweek 29 sees them host an obliging West Ham defence.

The Hammers have conceded a total of nine across their last three away trips, an average of three per game. Meanwhile, Manchester City have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight home matches.

That could open the door into Fantasy teams for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Nicolas Pépé (£9.2m).

The striker has already been involved in 20 goals this season and is behind Jamie Vardy (£9.8m) by just five points in the hunt to be the top-scoring FPL forward this season.

Gameweeks 19 to 27

When we consider the minutes played by Arsenal assets over the last 10 matches, we see that Aubameyang only missed two, the punishment for his Gameweek 22 red card.

Meanwhile, Pépé has been in fantastic form recently, and enough to ease any concerns about just six starts since Gameweek 18.

Despite the handicap of fewer minutes in the selected period, Pépé’s goal tally is beaten only by Aubameyang among Arsenal players, while none of his colleagues has managed more assists than his three.

With a trip to Brighton in Gameweek 30, Arsenal attackers may also have more long-term appeal than Manchester City counterparts considering it’s Burnley up next for Guardiola’s men who, unlike the Gunners, still have European commitments to consider.

Also, if you have already voted in the latest captain poll, fear not. We are resetting the results so that you can now cast your lot once again, now that we have more up-to-date information.

Vardy and Grealish to Auba and Doucoure for -4?

Currently have no arsenal. And Watford play in BGW31

planned gw 31 team with no hits:

    Pope
    TAA Saiss (Rico) (Kelly)
    Salah Traore
    Firmino Jimenez

    7-9 players is this OK?

What do you guys about the following strategy?
Particularly relevant if you like me don’t have Aubameyang

WC now and prepare both for dgw29(probably no more than 3 players) and bgw31. Just checked- it’s possible to get 9 players (incl. 3 from Liv) and add 2 with 2 FT after 29 and 30.
    FH 34
    BB 37

Think the value of FH in 31 is minimal as you can just wc now and hit both dgw29 and bgw31 and then plenty of time to prepare for BB37

Good strategy but I must point out that you can get KDB, Auba and Saka while still having 11 players for gw31 (if Spurs win today).

Yeah, I think this strategy has legs.

I'm tempted by that as well, but I already have Salah, Mane, TAA, Boly, Jimenez and Taylor. If I were to wildcard now with plans NOT to Free Hit in 31, then I'd be keeping pretty much all of those players anyway. So I see less point in me wildcarding.

My issue with this strategy though, is that most already have 3 Liverpool players so a wildcard now won't change that if you're prepping for GW 31? Similar with Wolves assets; most already own at least 2, and you're going to want 3 by GW 31 which I don't think justifies a WC.

        1. Kuzser

I agree with that, and this is what I would have done in your case most likely.
Obviously depends on each team, but I have only 3 Liv and Dcl with Traore as a big question. So in the best case scenario I would have got 8 players with a couple of hits.
I just don’t see a huge difference in what your wc would look like now vs what you would like in gw32.
And that allows you to FH in 34 whilst building a team very close to the one others will FH to in gw31

I’m in a very similar boat to you here but I have the Triple Captain to use rather than the Bench Boost.

So I’d be WC now, FH 34 and TC 37.

I think it sounds a good strategy unless someone can see big holes in it.

See above my comments. If you're wildcarding now but NOT planning to Free Hit in GW 31... how different will your team really look after the wildcard?

I see your point - I have 3 Liverpool but just 1 Wolves.

No Watford. Would probably want Sarr.

I’ve got two deadwood defenders to get rid of and could do with AUBY this week.

          Tricky one.

This is tempting. Shaungoater123 had a similar post on the previous page.
Can you get Auba this week? Also, without using the WC how many players will you have for 31?

I can get auba this week in 1 move and 7 for 31. With no hits.

      1. Kuzser
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

I can get Aubameyang either via Vardy ings-> Auba Jota or Vardy Traore-> Auba saka. But both for -4.
And then I would have been left with 4.5 bgw31 players, which is a problem.
If I had pope and at least one nailed Wolves I’d have probably hold WC

Was looking at the exact same moves. Well Ings + Vardy > Auba + Jota (-4)

Vardy to Auba done. Anything here worth changing or hitting? The only obvious ones are...

    Hhhmmm

Think I am just going to pass on having any City from now. You just do not know whether bald fraud is going to make you want to scratch your eyes out with his evil plans re blanks, benchings and no shows. KDB cameo over the weekend, resting him obviously...

I reckon triple Arsenal could actually be a good shout. Obviously not any of their defence and you need to take blank GW31 into account. Lovely fixtures ahead as well.

    Thoughts???

Triple Arsenal feels like too much imo. Auba + Pepe seems to be the right amount. I am touching no other City asset apart from KDB. Those that have Ederson are also safe, however, myself I would rather bring in Pope instead of Ederson.

      So much this!

People throwing best laid plans into the bin because essentially:

      - Pepe is playing Man City away
      - Saka is reverse OOP but considered a cheap enabler
      - Auba is seemingly worth removing one of Salah/Mane who play BOU
      - The likes of Mahrez etc may play an additional 45 minutes more in a GW than they usually would

Caveat: can’t get Doherty (will have to settle for Saiss)

Yeah, for free is a great move. Doherty better option but Saiss still great.

Vardy could kill it this week.

😆 Vardy is rubbish and hasn’t scored for an eternity. Leicester are also cactus

I know but it's that sense of "I've had him since like GW3 he's bound to bounce back the minute I sell him..."

The key to FPL is moving on non performing assets ASAP. Remember Pukki? Lundstram? Vardy needs to go

Do it. Only reason I didn't do this move is couldn't afford Auba without a hit.

Have exactly the same situation. Auba for me - but it is a shame. Even a tiny bit tempted to do Robbo to Doherty if we heard about a surprise benching. But Saiss is a good pick.
      Just going with kdb+Auba?

Yep.. plenty for me and still allows me to get a full XI for blank 31

Somebody stop me. Considering wildcarding now to attack this week and set myself up slightly for 31

    Patricio (Button)
    TAA - Robbo - Saiss ( Taylor - Rico )
    KDB - Salah - Mahrez - Pepe ( Hayden )
    Auba - Jota - Nketiah

    Mental?

Masina is a bit risky but otherwise looks good. Cathcart is the most nailed defender from Watford

Is Nketiah (4.3m) the worst shout?

Two starts in the last two, could be a better option than Saka as an Arsenal cheap pick.

Double GW fever is a real thing it seems.

If City had better fixtures, then yeah I could understand it, but they play 2 relatively tough games, obviously its City and they could hammer both, but at the same time either 1 could be a 1-0, 1-1, low scoring game, and that's before you factor in peps crazy rotation.
Then were have arsenal, who you never know what to expect, but I wouldn't want any of their defenders, or mf.

There are only 2 players in my opinion that are worth it, KDB and Auba, maybe I am lucky to have both, but people playing FH seem to be blinded by this DGW, who are you free hitting to get in?

Then there is the captain, are we really not going to captain Salah at home to B'Mouth ahead of KDB?

    The fever is real.

Salah v KDB captain dilemma is where it's at for me this week. Leaning towards Salah tbh

I can see why you could have some debate about the captain, but for me Mo is still the best option.
If you are a mane owner, and see he(or Salah) is rested in any early news, then off course KDB/Auba come into play.
