Rodgers offers Vardy fitness update as well-owned Justin hits century of FPL points

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Leicester City

Bonus Points: James Justin (£5.2m) x3, Max Kilman (£4.0m) x2. Rui Patricio (£5.3m) x1 Nelson Semedo (£5.2) x1 Jonny Evans (£5.5m) x1

James Justin‘s (£5.2m) ever-growing army of owners emerged the happiest from a drab encounter between Wolves and Leicester.

Just to prove how turgid the match was, it involved fewer shots on target (four) than players who received bonus points (five).

Four of those who received extra points were defenders. The other was home keeper Rui Patricio (£5.3m).

News Justin

Leicester full-back Justin has had a fine time of it over the last six matches, with four clean sheets, a goal and eight bonus points.

He backed up Gameweek 22’s season-best 15-point haul with a nine-pointer at Molineux – a pleasant welcome present for the 192,532 new managers who had pushed his ownership levels up to 29.7% before kick-off.

That consolidated his status as Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most popular defender, and only West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell (£5.7m) now has more points (106 v 101).

Justin contributed nothing going forward at Wolves – not a single shot taken, chance created or cross delivered as he spent his day reining in Adama Traore’s (£6.0m) forays down the Foxes’ left flank.

No Shot, Sherlock

Wolves worked Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel (£5.5m) just the once, albeit with the best chance of the game, when Fabio Silva (£5.2m) forced him into a fine save from close in.

That prompted manager Nuno Espirito Santo to indulge in a touch of criticism of his striker:

Fabio has to do better. He (Schmeichel) did a great save, it was a fantastic save, but he has to do better.

But there’s a reason why only four teams have a worse goalscoring record than Wolves (23), and it’s more to with the manager’s defensive instincts than Silva’s profligacy.

His intentions were there for all to see on Sunday, with Espirito Santo utilising a five-man defence that sat deep and wide to negate Leicester’s attacking threat.

It worked. All three of the visitors’ shots on target came from range and from James Maddison (£7.4m), but none went beyond glorified back pass status, handing Patricio one of the easiest save points of his FPL career.

Welcome Back Boys

Two players made returns at Molineux.

Jamie Vardy (£10.0m), who had lost more than a million managers since undergoing a hernia operation following a Gameweek 19 victory over Chelsea, was handed 29 minutes from the bench and very nearly won it late on.

He flashed a header narrowly wide – an opportunity not officially designated as a big chance, although it was certainly large enough.

But Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was more concerned with the minutes than the miss:

I’d love Jamie Vardy to play every minute of every game, but we can’t do that. Giving him half-hour was about right because he brings that movement. We can look to see if we can get some more game-time into him on Wednesday.

That would mean midweek FA Cup action at home to Brighton. Should he come through that unscathed, a visit from Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off could well mark his first start in five Gameweeks.

The striker is currently one of three Leicester players in the top 20 for transfers-in, although it should be mentioned that Vardy has not scored in the league since Gameweek 14’s win at Spurs just before Christmas.

Espirito Santo, meanwhile, gave wing-back Jonny (£5.4m) the first 45 minutes on his return from a serious knee injury:

It was decided by him, by us, by the medical staff, by the doctor that operated on him. With him returning, we have to be very careful. The decision was made before the game started. It was a decision based on our future, how we have to preserve a player like Jonny.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Kilman, Coady, Dendoncker; Jonny (Hoever 45), Neves, Moutinho, Semedo; Neto (Gibbs-White 88), A Traoré; Willian José (Fábio Silva 61).

Leicester City XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Justin, Soyuncu, Evans, R Pereira; Tielemans, Choudhury; Barnes, Maddison, Perez (Albrighton 61); Iheanacho (Vardy 61).

DCL´s game is based on his physicality, aerial threat and poaching ability, all of that for Dias & Stones is like playing in the park on a sunday.

DCL is likely to get at least 4pts (2+2), so Antonio needs 9 (9-4pt hit) to make it worth it.
Personally think DCL will get at least anassist or goal in one of his 2 games
      Who is best going forward?
      Probably Antonio
I’m keeping DCL for double them transferring out to Bamford (I already have Antonio)

I have analysed this at length. West Ham have poor fixtures after this game. Sheffield united dont get beaten by many goals.

I personally think DCl can score against anyone (much like yesterday). For a four point hit for Antonio it's a no brainer to go with DCL. There's no reason he cant score / win a penalty or assist against City (who will no doubt have players rested too)

I am not complaining. In fact I don't have any need to. Plus VAR is a different scenario. Just wondering if there needs to be a change in how these things are managed from an FPL point of view. At the end of the day its just a fantasy points based game.

    A) Salah/Son + Wilson > Grealish + DCL
    B) Maddison + Wilson > Raphinha + DCL

    A) allows me to finally get Grealish, but I'd have to ditch one of Salah or Son.

    B) allows me to get Raphinha (DGW25), but I'd still be without Grealish.

Nope. Gundy over Sterling yes I'd say. But there's still that nagging doubt over Foden's spot in the team.

He'll play some of the games, but I doubt he'll be a mainstay like Gundy & Dias for example.

thing is.. If I get Sterling, I don't think I'm captaining him over Gundigan (who I also have).

To be honest, I think there's a real fear factor with Sterling because he offers very little except tap-ins (it does count as FPL though indeed..)

James Justin is an absolute legend in my eyes.

Owned since GW1 @ 4.5mil and I've even managed to bench him for a lot of his blanks and played him for all his hauls 🙂

He'll be 5.5 next year by the way, at which point he'll be slightly overpriced - or at least there'll be other better value options available. So, I'll enjoy owning him for the rest of this season before we inevitably become estranged next season.

    Interesting transfer decision this week.

My plan is to upgrade Mitchell.

    A) Mitchell > Dallas - seems straight forward, will get Dallas for (wol/SOU + AVL)
    B) Mitchell > Shaw - much less popular, but if United beat WHU, they will double in 26 giving (NEW + cpl/che)

The decision is interesting, the transfer isn't haha.

Basically exploring whether cashing in on points now (GW25) or later (GW26 double). It also has ramifications longer term because I'm unlikely to swap the player in future.

Got both in my team. Shaw excites me more than Dallas (poor choice of words there, haha!) Wait and see how the FA cups pan-out. If Utd are to have a double in 26, I would go for Shaw. Seems integral to Utd's creativity and chance creation.

FA cup round 5 last game is on Thurs. That doesn't mean EPL will start rearranging games before 24 deadline

Hopefully many will fall for the lazy assumption that the games cancelled in 29 will automatically be moved en masse to 26.

I think recent fixture changes suggest it is highly likely. They seem to want to move fixtures forward proactively than postpone the decision until later. We all thought LEE/SOU double would be in GW26. But it seems they don't mind moving it earlier even if it clashes with CL games.

So by that logic Villa v Spurs (postponed weeks ago) is more likely to go into 26 than a postponed 29 game involving those two sides.

            Yes. I think so.

They put Everton - City in before Southampton - City. And I think the COVID postponements are getting priority generally.

I think Villa and Spurs will play each other in DGW26.

So the lazy assumption all postponed games from 29 are going to be put en masse into 26 isn't necessarily correct, as I said.

getting lowton in this week means a slight improvement in the strong bench option ,he is useful dgwk 24 and qualifies as fodder afterwards,it looks like vaccine is winning and please, please please covid wont be an issue soon.

city will score ,so he needs an assist v/s fulham ,so it pretty much reverts to taking a hit for a defender in one game ,upside is you will have him for the future, so just about yes.

Looking for some thoughts on the transfer suggestions below. Currently already have 3 City

    A. Johnstone to Pope and roll 2nd FT.
    B. Stones and Soucek to Lowton and Foden (Switch from City 2def 1mid to 1def and 2mid)

    2FT 6.7itb
    Johnstone*
    Cancelo Digne Stones
    Salah Bruno Gundo Soucek*
    Bamford Antonio DCL
    (Martinez Raphinha Cresswell Holding )

Really struggling with DGW planning at the moment (in kind of a good way).

    A) Is there any point in using a change to get Pope in for a non-playing keeper when I have McCarthy at home to wolves this week and then he has a DGW next week?

    B) Alternatively, I could go for a Burnley defender (for Coufal or Justin), but my back three is Cancelo, Stones (both double) and Coufal (SHU).

Any thoughts? Am I better letting it roll and just getting a playing keeper ahead of DGW26? Cheers

Last week started building a bench boost for DGW24 with 2 FT's (Pope & Rudiger). Was going to tack on Lowton and 1 other cheapish mid (Lookman, Doucure, etc) until DCL caught fire at the weekend and I dont own him so now thinking of tearing up the BB and just getting DCL in on his own with this weeks Free.

Personally, I dont this this DGW it anything to get too excited about apart from City assets (which we all own anyway) and DCL on his own. Beyond that, I dont think its worth the trouble. I could be wrong.

That’s the way I’m starting to lean now. Four DGW players this week and 2FTs. Leaves me with three DGW players for next week and the extra free transfer. Could be useful getting Kane back and building a BB for GW26 (as well as BGW29)

      Team at the moment:

      Steer Bamford Dallas Justin

How many points would they score this week you think? Thinking of whether to bench boost...

    A) Grealish (bha)
    B) Bamford (ars)
    C) Coufal (SHU)
    D) Dallas (ars)
    E) Richarlison (FUL, MANC)

blank (looks tired), assist, clean, no clean sheet but always possible he'll assist/score, double blank. I would save the BB for one of the future DGWs, eg 26

I am doing this. Hard to ditch Antonio when he's got Sheff Utd home but they look much tighter right now and Antonio has had a big workload for a player out of action so long, so I can see his minutes being managed for this one or getting injured early on. And DCL essential for the DGW.
