Injured Cavani misses out as Solskjaer opts for Martial over Greenwood in attack

Having been leapfrogged by Leicester City earlier in the day, Manchester United will attempt to go back to second in the Premier League table at Old Trafford this evening.

A win over visitors Newcastle United will do just that and keep league leaders Manchester City within ten points’ reach, following a win for Pep Guardiola’s troops in the late-afternoon kick-off.

The last of four Premier League matches to take place on Sunday gets underway at 19:00 GMT.

Daniel James (£6.2m) and Nemanja Matic (£4.7m) are brought into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI tonight.

Both of the United manager’s changes from Gameweek 25 are enforced, with Edinson Cavani (£7.9m) and Scott McTominay (£4.9m) missing through injury.

Mason Greenwood (£7.0m) is again only among the substitutes, with Anthony Martial (£8.7m) preferred up front.

Steve Bruce has made just the one change to the Newcastle side that lost at Chelsea last Monday as Joelinton (£5.7m) replaces Dwight Gayle (£5.9m) in attack.

Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) is the second-most-popular captaincy pick of Double Gameweek 25 overall and within the top 10k, trailing Patrick Bamford (£6.9m) in both instances.

Selected by the vast majority of the top 10,000, Fernandes’ effective ownership is, once again, in excess of 100% – so any return means a small red arrow for those who own the Portuguese midfielder but haven’t captained him.

LINE-UPS

Newcastle United XI: Darlow, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Lewis, Willock, Hayden, Shelvey, Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Matic, Fred, James, Fernandes, Rashford, Martial.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 25 SO FAR…

Ilkay Gundogan (£6.1m) made a swift return from injury at the Emirates this afternoon but couldn’t add to his season’s goal tally of 11.

The German started and finished the game in his now customary ‘number eight’ role but he, and City as a collective, never really clicked in an attacking sense in north London.

Not that Pep Guardiola’s side really needed to get out of second gear, with Arsenal failing to capitalise on some threatening positions in the final third and mustering only one shot on target in the entire game.

This was City’s 15th clean sheet of the season and their 13th in the last 16 Gameweeks.

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) made his first start on his return from injury as a ‘false nine’ and provided some typically incisive through-balls, while the advanced Joao Cancelo (£6.1m) again saw plenty of penalty-box action and wasted a glorious chance to double City’s lead when toe-poking wide from 10 yards.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) was the visitors’ match-winner, nodding home Riyad Mahrez‘s (£8.1m) second-minute cross for his 13th attacking return in his last 14 league starts.

I think DCL could be the man to steal the show with Everton picking up form and DCL being well rested with strong fixtures.

I don't know why people are constantly looking for differentials to captain. Just go with the best pick. And I think it's very clear that he is the most reliable for minutes and points.

    Interesting stat on Sterling

"Sterling has recorded just 1 bonus point in the last six matches he has scored in. What goes against him is the lack of his multiple involvements and the fact that City defence inevitably record monster BPS scores whenever they keep a clean sheet. Fine margins but big swings."

He’s also played poorly. Regularly fails dribbles, misplaces passes and does a lot of unglamorous pressing.

Like today he often fails to build on good starts. KDB amazing pass and all the time in the world to pick his spot but takes too many touches.

When he’s good he’s great but too often he’s not reached the heights this year.

    Early WC draft:

    0.3m ITB

    Martinez
    Stones Cancelo Shaw Digne/LEI def
    Bruno Salah Gundogan Barnes
    Kane DCL

    3.9 - Bamford White ESR

Don't know whether this needs more GW29 players as I have no FH left, maybe Watkins or Targett in?

Used it because knowledge is power and having the confirmed fixtures in front of you plus knowing who will/won't play regarding injuries/European football is less of a lottery than predicting it last gameweek.

That said I still have bench boost and will need to use it in another week but I can at least use my bench as a starting point for the blanks instead of avoiding them for a BB team in 26.

      Team is:

      Martinez
      Cancelo, Dias, Digne
      Salah, Bruno, Gund, Raphina
      DCL, Kane, Bamford
      (Fabri, Taylor, Coufal, Grealish)

So, the fact that the team is quite well set up with nine DGW'ers, and that I still need to BB at some point (my plan was BB in 25 but injuries stopped me) means I'm considering holding on to the WC. Some on here agree with this strategy while others suggest wildcarding anyway.

Yeah if u look at the fixtures beyond the dgw there's not many teams/players u would jump on now tbf imo.

Exactly. I would like Barnes though. Could get him for Grealish this week, giving me an extra DGW'er but would be for a hit. Not sure it's worth a hit?

Thinking the same tbh, wanted Barnes a few wks ago but didn't want to lose anyone. Lost Soucek for Raphina this wk so Grealish out opens the door for Barnes (also for a hit)

Depending who you'd play for Grealish, and when Grealish comes back (as Villa have ok fuxtures), Barnes will repay the hit. My issue is I've al;ready taken a -4 for Kane so I'm not sure a -8 is a good idea in a week when lots will bench boost or TC (I already used my TC). What do you think?

    BB-team:
    Martinez - Pope
    Lowton - Rudiger - Dias - Shaw - Dallas
    Raphinha - Fernandes - Grealish - Gundogan - Sterling
    Bamford - Kane - Watkins

    £4.4m ITB

    a) Raphina + Grealish to Barnes + Son (-4)
    b) Grealish + Bamford to Son + DCL (-4)

I've owned Harvey Barnes for one week this season. He was a GW4 replacement for an injured Son who got 18 points while Barnes was getting a 2 pointer.

I've owned Vardy for a few weeks and Barnes annoyed the hell out of me. Holding onto the ball when he should pass etc. But his numbers are becoming hard to ignore.

I can't get him in for 26 but he's starting to produce consistently.

Since GW15 he's in the top 10 midfielders for xG (8th) goals (2nd), total shots (8th), shots on target (3rd), shots in the box (6th) and assists (joint 3rd).

Very difficult to get over that feeling. I have a similar issue with Zaha who is a troll whenever I brought him last season. Stayed away from him this season even though he was playing closer through the middle

Worth playing a BB with this lot?

    Forster - Dallas - Lowton - Bamford

Forster is an issue I know but if I go -8 to do Raphinha + Coufal > Barnes + Aina then Id have no money left to upgrade Forster > 4.5 keeper

My current bench is Forster - Dallas - Raphinha - Bamford.

I can’t see any other real GW to play BB. Would the above be suitable enough to use it on instead? Could do a -4 Forster > Areola/Johnstone instead?

I feel like I’m quite well setup for next week, enough money ITB to go Ings > Kane BUT... Trent is frustrating.

    Martinez
    Dias Cancelo TAA
    Son Raphina Gundog Barnes Bruno
    DCL Ings

    Pope Bamford Dallas Cresswell

    3.7m ITB 1 FT

    1. Ings > Kane (TC)
    2. Bamford + TAA > Kane (TC) + Pereira/Digne (-4)

    Thoughts?

I sold Liverpool assets weeks ago and no regrets at all. Gives plenty of funds it’s and tired of 2point returns for their prices.

I don't think it's a huge risk at this point. I would be wary of captaining Mo at the moment which makes him an easier sell.

You need to add that information in your OP as it does affect my comment. I still don't think KDB is worth the risk yet but if chasing then worth trying. City have a lot of fixtures coming up so it is better to try and pick the nailed players like Ederson, Dias and Gundo

No I wouldn't. Don't know what your chip strategy is but you have 8 DGW players. Get one or more of DCL, Watkins or Kane in there depending on funds.

        Just triple captain left.

I could get Kane and Barnes for sterling and Antonio -4.

But, the guy I’m chasing has them both so doesn’t help me too much in that regard but seems the most “sensible” move

With regards to wild card it depends on your team. Having a wildcard for gw 30 and for the run in sounds great.

If your team is half decent, I'd TC26, FH29, WC30 (fixture swing).

Played WC in 25 to set up for BB in 26. Plan was to take out Bamford for Watkins and that would give me a bench of Martinez, Raphinha Veltman and Rudiger.

But now thinking I shouldn't BB and leave Leeds players in team for GW29 and don't bring in Watkins.

Am I wrong? Will use BB in future

    Current WC team:

    Ederson (Sanchez)
    Digne Pereira Targett (Dallas Dunk)
    KDB Son Barnes Gundogan (Raphinha)
    Kane DCL Watkins

0.7 to play with (1.2 if I choose White instead of Dunk)

    Pope
    Cancelo Stones Robertson
    Salah Fernandes Gundogan Raphinha

    Martinez Soucek Coufal Ferguson

    1. Soucek Coufal Ferguson >> Barnes Targett Shaw (-4) (play BB)
    2. Ings >> Kane (save 1FT)
    3. Ings Coufal >> Kane Targett
