Bamford, Raphinha and Dallas all deliver as Leeds beat Southampton

Leeds 3-0 Southampton

  • Goals: Patrick Bamford (£6.9m), Stuart Dallas (£5.0m), Raphinha (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Tyler Roberts (£4.6m), Hélder Costa x2 (£5.0m)
  • Bonus points: Dallas x3, Illan Meslier x2 (£4.7m), Raphinha x1

WHAM BAM

Patrick Bamford (£6.9m) finally delivered the Double Gameweek goods as he netted in Leeds’ meeting with Southampton.

After watching a second-half effort ruled out for offside against Wolves, the mid-priced forward notably adjusted his run to convert on Tuesday night.

Tyler Roberts (£4.6m) put him through the middle of Southampton’s defence for a routine finish, his 13th goal of the season and his 21st attacking return.

Backed by 1.6 Fantasy Premier League managers for the Double Gameweek 26 captaincy, Bamford has now produced a goal or assist in five of his last six home league matches. That bodes well for further returns considering three of Leeds’ next five Premier League fixtures are at Elland Road.

As per usual, the size of Bamford’s latest score could have been bigger. His best chance outside the second-half goal came in the third minute when he powered through the middle and, when he probably should have unleashed an effort from just inside the Southampton box, he laid off to Roberts who could not reach the pass.

Meanwhile, Bamford even contributed at the other end of the field in the second half, turning a Jannik Vestergaard (£4.7m) header over the crossbar in the 64th minute.

RAPH TRADE

Just as was the case at Wolves on Friday night, Raphinha (£5.4m) was exceptionally unlucky not to come away with another massive haul, although like Bamford, he did, at least find the net.

Despite being one of Leeds’ best players against Southampton, the Brazilian winger was denied both goals and assists with frustrating regularity for his 9.7% ownership.

In the 24th minute, Raphinha found some space behind Ryan Bertrand (£5.0m) with a mazy run and could have gone down for a penalty but squared for an unmarked, onrushing Roberts who skied a big chance.

Then, 14 minutes later, the Leeds wide-man was played through on goal in a gilt-edged one-on-one with Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) only for Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) to sprint back with all the endeavour of a Bamford captainer to put in arguably one of the best tackles of the season to deny him.

There were two more glaring misses from Raphinha passes in the second half that would have hugely frustrated his backers.

Roberts fired wide again in the 50th minute before Diego Llorente (£4.4m) forced an impressive save out of McCarthy but should have scored himself.

It was in the closing stages that Raphinha finally got his due, rifling home a free-kick from range after a foul on Hélder Costa (£5.0m).

Line-up Lessons

Stuart Dallas (£5.0m) returned to central midfield against Southampton although only after another enforced change for Bielsa.

The Northern Ireland international started the game at left-back once again, the Leeds’ cause helped by Llorente making only his third appearance since joining in the summer.

“(Llorente starting is) necessary in this moment and we hope he can show the qualities that brought him here.” – Marcelo Bielsa

However, Dallas still found his way to central midfield thanks to an injury to Mateusz Klich (£5.2m) in the second half.

With Pascal Struijk (£3.9m) occupying the Kalvin Phillips (£4.9m) in defensive midfield, Ezgjan Alioski (£4.4m) was the nearest replacement with Dallas able to step forward.

Like Raphinha, he was also unlucky not to get an even bigger haul. It was Dallas who played Bamford for that chance he tried to move onto Roberts before the forward missed another Dallas key pass in the 52nd minute, forcing a good save from McCarthy.

Still, that shift forward allowed Dallas to get involved the goals all the same, toe-poking an edge-of-the-box strike beyond McCarthy after a Costa cross in the 78th minute.

Leeds United XI (4-1-4-1): Meslier; Dallas, Cooper, Llorente, Ayling; Struijk; Harrison (Costa 46′), Roberts (Hernandez 75′), Klich (Alioski 59′), Raphinha; Bamford.

Southampton XI (4-2-2-2): A McCarthy; Bertrand, Vestergaard, Salisu, Bednarek; Tella (Minamino 58′), Romeu (Djenepo 70′), Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond (Ings 58′), Adams.

Losing Dallas was the plan but he could easily haul and perhaps outscore a double gameweek player like Targett/Aina/Rudiger

Yeah quite possible. Leeds are unpredictable though. You would expect them to beat a grealish less villa but on the other hand they could let you down a bag full. That's the risk with all your bench boosters from the same team.

      So i go for 1.

I need advice guys I have not activated my wc last gw to bench boost this dgw, so Im in a dilemma in what to do now? I have only 6 dgw players now and still have FH, TC as well. Do I use wc to have 11 dgw or save? or Do I TC instead with hits? or just make 3 transfers (-8) and keep chips?

    Any advice is appreciated.

you think WC now is not going to be wasted as I won't be able to use any chip? Thats my biggest regret I waited till deadline day and they didnt announce the dgw till after it so didnt want to risk the wc.

I’m WCing because I want the strongest 11 for 26 and didn’t want to take hits to get it.

(Remember you’re likely to only get one match out of your City assets anyway so the chances of putting out 15 DGWers is small - unless you’re going without City which I can’t imagine...)

Still with FH, BB, TC to play as well.

Thats true but dont you think BB is worth less without WC? It will be difficult to set up a team for a decent BB its risky as it is with DGW.

I just feel that using WC without BB or TC is going to be a waste thats whats playing with my head atm. a -8 might be compensated with double games?

in general, i agree with you and obviously everyone's team is different.

TC this week I think is a real minefield - there's so many options and all of them have some kind of drawback (one good fixture/one not so good, player form, team form, rotation threat, etc)

My goal with the WC is to put out a strong 11 for 26 and have some good options on the bench for my future BB (rather than going with fodder). Most of us have cash to spare so this isn't really an issue. Besides, I'm probably going to BB in the 30s somewhere and have FTs to change players if players hit form, nailedness, etc.

But hey, if you feel like your strongest BB comes in 26 with hits, go for it! GL.

I wont be BB now no chance with my current team so my choices are pretty limited either TC or WC like yourself. I think Kane is a good TC shout for this DGW I'm not going to lie but I'll take hit to get him in which would take points off me that I can probably gain from WC and just cap. So i see where you're coming from in terms of just WC tbf but when you think BB will be useful and how would you ensure the bench players you bring in now are going to fit into the BB later?

Thats what I was leaning towards atm to not waste wc without a bench boost but not sure if we'll have another dgw that will be any use for it!!

Wc now. Save the hits. There will be small dgws but the hits saved will be more valuable than saving your chips imo. Especially as you have fh as well you’re in a good position.

valuable advice but FH will be used in 29 or 33 blanks anyway so difficult to do anything else. The worry if I use WC now is that leaving a BB later will be hard to use and risky. WC and BB need to be used together I think thats the issue Im having and regret not activating it the dgw25 tbh.

You'll want your WC after BGW29 to reset your team, you could use your FH on BGW33 which would give you an advantage over most - leaving TC for this week.

If you WC now you will either need to FH GW29 or sacrifice it - and will leave you with fewer TC options later on.

If you do go with TC though, good luck getting it right this week!

FH for BGW29 is better no? you're right about if I WC now I have to FH 29. In terms of TC I think we'll always get an option to use that unlike BB and FH. regret not activating it last gw tbh but had I done so I wouldve probably not got an 80 score for this GW.

    Martinez 1.4itb 1FT
    Robertson / Stones / Maguire / Dias
    Grealish / Salah / Gundo / Fernandes
    Bamford / Ings
    B: Pope / Mee / Raph / Antonio

Which of these options and will potentially BB:
    A) Ings & Grealish > DCL & Barnes (-4)
    B) Ings & Grealish > DCL & Son (-4)
