FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) opened his account for Chelsea and Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) scored his second goal of the season on a busy Sunday of Premier League football.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese returned a solitary Fantasy Premier League (FPL) point at Southampton.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS AND PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Paul Pogba (£7.6m) provided another assist, his fifth of the season, as he continued in an advanced role at St. Mary’s Stadium. In fact, no player on the pitch had more penalty area touches (9) than the Frenchman today.
  • Budget defender Tino Livramento (£4.0m) started again for Southampton, keeping Kyle Walker-Peters (£5.0m) on the bench. Encouragingly for his owners, Walker-Peters replaced left-back Romain Perraud (£5.0m) on 82 minutes, with the former Chelsea man seeing out the full 90 ahead of next week’s visit to Newcastle United.
  • Dele Alli (£6.5m) scored his first league goal in 17 months as Nuno Espirito Santo made a winning return to Molinuex. Surprisingly, it came from the penalty spot, having won it himself after being brought down by Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jose Sa (£5.0m). With Harry Kane (£12.4m) arriving off the bench in the second-half, it’s debatable exactly how important this development actually is, but it’s certainly something worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
  • It is now back-to-back clean sheets for Spurs, with Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) collected maximum bonus on both occasions. The Frenchman has already made 10 saves this season, a total no other goalkeeper can beat.
  • Despite two losses on the bounce for Wolves, today’s performance was encouraging, with Nelson Semedo (£5.0m) particularly lively in the final-third. However, his return to Bruno Lage’s starting XI meant that £4.0m option, Ki-Jana Hoever, dropped to the bench.
  • Reece James‘ (£5.5m) 18-point FPL haul was the biggest of his career to date, with Thomas Tuchel confirming after the match that the wing-back was fine after his collision with Nuno Taveres (£4.5m).
  • Lukaku marked his return to Chelsea with a goal after just 15 minutes and went to to register eight shots, with seven of those arriving in the box. Next up for the Belgian is Liverpool (a), Aston Villa (h) and Spurs (a).
  • Spurs and Chelsea joined Brentford and Liverpool as the only sides with two Premier League clean sheets to their name so far this season.

INJURY WATCH

Son Heung-min (£10.0m) left the pre-match warm up prematurely, but came out for the first-half as expected and featured for 72 minutes.

Having been asked after the game how he was, Nuno said:

“I’m sorry I cannot answer that. For now he’s alright. In the warm-up he had a strange feeling but he was ok to play. I don’t know. Let’s assess him. I didn’t realise. I’m sorry.”

Team-mate Cristian Romero (£5.0m) missed out on the matchday squad as a precaution with a minor knee injury suffered in the UEFA Europa Conference League defeat at Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night.

Ben White (£4.5m) was missing for Arsenal after testing positive for Covid, while during the match, Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) limped off on 65 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle issue.

At Chelsea, N’Golo Kante (£5.0m) and Hakim Ziyech (£7.4m) both came off the bench in the second-half after being injured in the UEFA Super Cup.

Gundo & Tsimikas --> Jota & Livramento with 2FTs sounds decent?

Just need Tsimi to go up before Jota to afford it.

Where do I start. I'm thinking Duffy as more attacking threat and slightly better fixtures. All on the basis of a good partnership with Dunk previously

I have exactly the same 15 players!

I’m thinking of doing Veltman to Dier, Livramento or Duffy.

So 2 with one of those I’d say.

      1. FCSB
        • 8 Years

Why are you keeping Tsmi… you just doing the transfer to raise funds?

I like Dier as an option, so only possible through Veltman, who I fear might not start straight away when he’s back. Tempted to try and catch a price rise with Duffy.

Then will end up doing Tsimikas to Livramento at some point but no rush.

I can't believe I fell for Shaw.... guy is so overated for FF, just because he started on England team. Has never in his FF career had anything more than a 125 pt season. Only way I see him being worth the $$ is if Varane comes in and they keep a load of clean sheets.

Yeah I think you need to decide between keeping Bruno or Salah so monitor them for 2 or 3 weeks until the fixture swing for Lukaku. Also from GW4 you'd want DCL over Ings. Raphinha will also be essential soon.

Leaves me with potentially only 2 defenders next week! Also, I'm 0.1 off DCL, so will have to be Bam if I go that route

One rule I would love FPL to change more than any other is to have no price changes. Im a manager that likes to be patient with players but I get punished by all the kneejerkers transfering players out because they haven't scored for 2 games sending their value down.

Similarly people rushing into unnecessary early transfers making me feel pressured into also doing the transfer early to avoid the price rise when I ideally would like to wait until the friday press conferences and team/injury/covid news.

Just enjoy the points when your patience pays off and try not to worry about losing 0.1. off you've picked good players, your TV will go up in the longer run. I always keep some money in the bank at the start. Being 'forced' into a transfer often leads to bad decisions.

Disgree, getting on the right bandwagons early can pay off massively especially if you won't be able to afford it due to rises

Part of the game! Ultimately the evidence is that most consistently successful players make transfers late on rather than early though.

Yeah but if they are going to be priced out of a transfer they want, they will go early. If Lukaku was playing Norwich next week I guarantee they would all go early if they were going to be priced out

Sure, if you have a very specific transfer in mind that you will be priced out of, sure. Otherwise information is king with the scope for training injuries, positive COVID tests, manager press conferences and the transfer window still being open.

Find it funny how Antonio is like the 10th most transferred in player for GW3 so far despite not even playing for GW2 yet and his injury track record! 😀

The flip side of that, is you're being punished for your slow reaction. I do share your frustration. Think price changes add an extra dimension though.

Its not about slow reaction. Its always better to wait for team news before doing transfers. I can never understand why so many feel they need to do transfers mid week. Its unnecessary and is the reason why the players price rises before team news day.

Agreed. My point was the 'flip side' of your viewpoint.

Making an early transfer, to avoid being priced out of a move, isn't a 'kneejerk' (obviously, players doing well will increase and poorly, will drop - you act accordingly).

In the same way that waiting for more info isn't a slow reaction (unless you're priced out of your move - then it is).

Removing price changes would make the game simpler. Not necessarily easier, as it would be easier/more basic for everyone.

Is Greenwood going to keep starting?

They spent £73M on Sancho, think they will want him to start in Midfield, Pogba seems to be wanting to play further up.

    Cavani, Martial competing up front.

or do we think he keeps starting until Rashford healthy?

Greenwood is fine for now. He can play through the middle or wide right. The problem for him will be when Rashford and Cavani also come into the mix as not all of them can play.

I still think that even when all those players are available, Greenwood will still start maybe 75% of matches.

Was trying not to get steered with price rises this year but White dropping is annoying. However do we need to sell him as they have great fixtures soon and could go back up? However could he go down to £4.3m with Man City up next, high ownership and IB. Thinking just to get Duffy to make money but then I’m a transfer down in the plan.

White is a great option as a nailed on cheap top 6 defender. If you believe Arsenal to still be Top6 and their terrible start will be history as soon as the fixtures change, then no reason to sell.

The price drop only matters if you sell after it happens. You can try to finesse 0.2 by selling now but Duffy may not play again so don't expect to gain on him. Livramento might be a better option.

I expected a drop so thought I'd leave him and Toney until the WC but Ars players have been dropping like flies. It's a wait and see now. Toney looks too good to drop and White still might not
