Scoutcast #384 – Is it time to move for Lukaku in FPL?

Andy and Seb tackle the key challenges facing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers ahead of Gameweek 3.

The pair are without regular co-host Joe this week but all the usual favourite segments remain in tact, including the Gameweek review, team plans, fixture analysis, transfer market trends and differentials.

Seb also takes his regular look at the biggest underachievers and overperformers according to the statistics.

How “essential” Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) is comes up for debate, as does the question about whether non-owners can continue to ignore Said Benrahma (£6.2m).

What to do with the likes of Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) is also pondered.

The Scoutcast’s management of a veteran Fantasy manager’s side, who has had to dip out of this campaign for mental health reasons, continues. With a top 100 finish last season, the pressure is truly on to maintain his strong record.

Is it me or is Grealish representing fantastic value at 8m?

Feels like he is pretty nailed

Still not convinced personally on his goal involvements. Still got the feeling he will assist the assister

I only got Ferran Torres from City as he is cheapest offensive player so even when benched it doesn't hurt me as much. Also, hope that until they buy CF young Spaniards will be deployed to lead front line.

It hurts you when he comes on as sub and gives you one point when your sub returns. That's a realistic scenario.

You didn't see my bench 🙂
Get what you're saying but considering he started last two and was unlucky to have goal disallowed against Norwich I'm willing to risk bit further.

How long do you reckon it will take for Tsikmas to drop after getting dropped for robbo next week? Will want to transfer him out for the value but not really the transfer I want to be making on an international break…

Not a chance this week. Possibly during the IB but with many higher priority moves such as people getting rid of Ings etc and most people only having 1 FT I think there's a chance he survives the IB too.

I understand the attitude from some fans loyalty etc. But thinking logically what percentage of city and united fans picked the teams because they are/were winning. Most City and Utd fans are not from the area, country or in a lot of cases continent. So unless the fans whinging are local it is the height of hypocrisy IMO.

If you class local as Manchester, then that's a load of rubbish.

I'll just quickly drop an education bomb. Most Indians who live in the UK came over during our parent's generation due to Apartheid in Kenya/Uganda/Tanzania - that's where the majority of Indians who lived outside of India lived till then. This was during the late 1960s / early 1970s.

These people obviously emerged themselves into English culture, i.e. football and started supporting the winning team. I.e. Liverpool. Few support Man United or others.

Wind forward 20/30 years later, my generation is born (1990s) in London yet born into a family of Man United. In the same way as religion, you don't have a choice, it is what it is.

So the whole if you're not local, your not a fan stuff is a load of crap to me.

Why didn't your parents support the local team? Plus, you don't have to follow them, if you're born in London, support a London team. You can't be a glory supporter and then moan when someone highlights the fact.

We are exceptions to the rule my parents and I follow Gaelic Football and hurling - amateur sports. In both sports you follow your local county Myself - Dublin and my parents Galway. I also support my !local GAA club as well. My main point is in soccer, to talk of loyalty where people mostly pick global brands that are doing well in soccer is laughable. As those global brands/clubs would not be so successful if there was loyalty. Yet the global fans expect global players to be 'loyal' in an industry that is geared towards making money makes no sense. It is hypocrisy on a grand scale.

I got to be honest this is one of the most funny responses I have read in a while! Truth bombs? You are completely missing my point and letting your emotion get in the way of logic. My point is some fans are very quick to scream loyalty! But the reality is many chose their team they supported not out of community loyalty. Merely because of branding or because the team was doing well when they were about 10. It makes me laugh that such 'fans' expect loyalty from players when they themselves did not pick a club because of loyalty it was the furthest thing from their minds at the time!

Hasn't that always been the case?

As a kid (late 60s) everyone at my school supported Chelsea or Leeds but we had no idea of geography. I supported Leeds even though Chelsea stadium was less than 10 miles away

          • 15 Years
          3 years, 26 days ago

True but what I saying is fans going on about 'loyalty' is a bit silly. Strip it all back and soccer is an industry and fans are consumers. The fans some how buy into a myth that a big global brand of a football club is 'family' and means loyalty. But most fans have chosen the club they are not born into the community/family.

    Meslier, Foster
    TAA, Tsimikas, White, Digne, Dier
    Salah, Sarr, Bruno, Raphina, Gilmour

I'm not convinced Robbo will definitely start. Klopp has history with easing players back from injury and with Tsmikas playing more than adequately, he could easily start him again and reintroduce Robbo after say 60mins if everything is going well..

If you think you've got no other pressing transfers you can move TSI on if he doesn't lose his place v Chelsea he'll almost certainly lose it the game after. For that price though he can easily sit on your bench though while you deal with higher priorities.

Best 4.5 def to start every week

    A) Ayling

    B) Coady

4.5 defenders are not there to be played every week. Just play the fixtures.

I disagree. Both Leeds and Wolves have good fix for some time, so back to the question, A or B?

Would anyone be selling Tsimi if his price was still 4.1?

I had Ferguson for the first half of last season, no prospect of playing, but the chances of needing my 3rd sub and having one that would get more that 1 or 2 points in pretty remote anyway.

Just don't get the rush to use a transfer on Tsimi - I don't think I will bother until there are some 3.9m defenders or when I WC

I'm not but there's sense is chucking him for a playing defender, especially if people have starters liable to rotation, like James or Cancelo.

If he was 4.1 probably not but at 4.2 you can bank the extra 0.1m which can be handy. If you have nothing else that needs changing then I think Tsimi to Livramento makes sense.

If you have cover on your bench, he could be useful at Christmas and maybe the odd other time.

If you bought at 4m, it's about knowing you can get the .1m before everyone sells and that's lost.

      1. Andy_Social

I'm happy to lose it. I might want 2FT to get rid of Ings and Buendia. I'm not going to take a hit because I saved 0.1 on someone at the end of my bench.

No because I have Ayling as cover and I suspect most people have. It's not worth wasting a transfer on him if you could problems elsewhere.

I would have sold and kept the 0.1 if I didn't need to tinker my first 11. It's on my agenda but not the most important thing right now. To your question, if he was at 4.1 I wouldn't have sold as I don't think 3 Liverpool players is imperative right now.

I'm probably going to eye Robertson up in 5 or 6 gameweeks so will look to make the switch then.

Thanks all - I take hits every week but still see no reason to sell Tsimi, especially without seeing Robbo back and playing regularly. Even then, I expect we will see Robbo rested at points during the season, and I can't see myself needing that 3rd Liverpool slot for a while

No need to transfer him if you have higher priorities elsewhere. If he's anyone's only bench option they've got much bigger issues.

Tsimikas was a guaranteed start, so had him in original team. I had to replace this week, as he is not 100% nailed.
If you are using as a backup, great, if you need a nailed on, then transfer him out

    My team is:

    Sánchez
    TAA Ayling Shaw
    Raphina Salah Bruno Mbeumo Mahrez
    Antonio Ings

    Foster Livramento Tsimikas Scarlett

    A) Was contemplating the idea of Mahrez + Ings to Lukaku and a 6m mid (Sarr or Traore) for a -4. If I had the extra 0.2m to get to Benrahma I think I would be more likely to do it. Thoughts?

Just deliberating whether Shaw could match Greenwood point wise.
Downgrade Greenwood to a 5.5m and use 1m to upgrade Ayling > Shaw and play 4-3-3, 3-4-3.
then use the other 1m to upgrade eslewhere.

Shaw is probably more nailed than Greenwood .

Last GW Mahrez did not start with KDB in the team. But I don't think that there is a connection.
