Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 4?

The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 has been completely turned on its head by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side host Newcastle United on Saturday, thrusting their assets into the spotlight, but there are other options on the radar too, including Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m), Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), Harry Kane (£12.3m) and of course, the in-form Michail Antonio (£7.9m).

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 4 captain poll, before then analysing the leading candidates, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo is the runaway leader in this week’s captain poll, gaining 42.7% of votes so far, with Salah currently sitting in second, backed by 17.95%.

Fernandes occupies third place with 9.85% of votes, with the top-five list completed by Lukaku and Antonio, with 7.53% and 4.25% respectively.

CRISTIANO RONALDO AND BRUNO FERNANDES

        Short term 100%

Digne has always been a total FPL flop in my opinion - passes the eye test, but actually gets very little returns. Always been a disappointment owning him.

Shaw set pieces with Ron lurking + fixtures until GW7 pinch it for me

          Digne a total fpl flop?

More assists than taa/robbo/cancelo/shaw and Chilwell last season.

Not sure how you can class that as a total flop.

Combined with rafa coming in, i reckon they should start getting some cs now as well.

Id still have shaw over him if it was between the 2.

I'm currently on WC who would you prefer as a duo

    A. Raphinia & Jiminez

    A) Traore / Shaw / Semado
    B) Raph / Tierney / Coady

Thinking longterm as I know Raph could be out for GW4 - but will use Traore as a place holder with 0.4 ITB to do Traore > Raph GW5

Which of the following options sounds best?
    1.0 ITB and 0FTs

A: Play ESR and hope for the best (can do Toney + Ings -> Bamford + Jiménez (-4) next GW, but will be hard to get CR7)
B: Play Ings over ESR (can do Toney + Ings -> Bamford + Jiménez (-4) next GW, but will be hard to get CR7)
    C: Do Ings & ESR -> Jota + Pukki (-8) - Could then do Bruno + Toney -> CR7 + Raphinha next week (-4)
D: Ings -> Jiménez (-4) if Jiménez plays (bench ESR and bring in Bamford for Toney next GW for free)
E: Something different like getting a better third defender next GW next to Shaw and TAA or downgrade Raya/Sanchez to free up funds

    Raya
    TAA - Shaw - Reguilón
    Salah - Bruno - Traoré - Sarr - ESR
    Antonio - Toney

    (Sanchez, Ings, Williams, Amartey)

    1. Boz
      • 12 Years

Not a fan of all the hits. If you want CR7 get him for Ings this week, if not wait a couple of weeks and prioritise that transfer

      1. Salarrivederci
        • 8 Years
        3 years, 11 days ago

That would require hits as well? 🙂

            3 years, 11 days ago

Yes. Currently on that. A bit annoyed with ESR getting that illness flag. Could potentially be subbed on or taken off early. Then I would much rather play Ings and hope for another return.

      The template move

      Bruno > Jota / Torress / GW / Traore
      Ings > Ron / Kaku (C)?
      ?

Team is almost template with those moves - week after you can deal with ESR & Regu if you need before spurs bad fixtures

Sorry but depends on the end result. I take more than my fair share of hits but in general they tend to pay off in the short and longer term, for me anway. 3 hits this season and 3 green arrows whats not to like. Game is supposed to be fun and I hate looking at a what could have been/broken Team :).

Toney > DCL could backfire hard for a -4

      1. Boz
        • 12 Years
        3 years, 11 days ago

Could backfire, but want Toney out and DCL in ASAP. Could do it after the deadline next week but will have to hope DCL come through Monday ok

        1. CapK
          • 3 Years

Toney could EASILY score against brighton....

Then Toney gets bonus and a goal so has 9 points + the 4 you got for the transfer is 13points

          Is DCL worth that?

    4. Salarrivederci
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 11 days ago

I would make those moves, but personally I have a feeling that Bamford and/or Jiménez will be better picks than DCL in the coming GWs. If so then Toney -> Bamford next GW for free and the other two transfers for free this GW.

Anyone else getting nervy about Greenwood? Someone's going to be making way for Him. I know Martial was in last time out and he's the obvious pick, but I'm not convinced Mason keeps his place in this team.

I'm keeping for now but he's an easy switch. Lots of good options in his price bracket

don't understand your post at all. Are you saying Martial replaces Greenwood at Man U, so replace him with Mount in your fantasy team?

Mason Greenwood's first name is also Mason, Harry.
I'm saying Ronaldo likely takes Martial's spot in the team, but it could be Greenwood who makes way instead. Whatever happens Saturday, Ronaldo's presence is definitely going to affect Greenwood's minutes.

Martial has only been a sub to date hasn't he?
Who comes in for James, or alternatively who shifts over to that position allowing Ronaldo in?

I think he starts the Newcastle but thereafter any drop in his performance levels and he could see some bench time

You can easily replace Greenwood. Someone like Traore or Gray for example is hard to replaced since they are 5.5-6.0.

As long as you have a plan when and how you are going to replace Greenwood then should be fine. If you don’t have a plan then don’t go for Greenwood.

When it comes to price rise and wildcard. Not a single double rise so far. Quite rare for that to happen surely?

      How is this WC looking?
      Sanchez, (Steele)
      TAA, Digne, White, (Ayling), (Williams)
      Salah, Jota, Greenwood, Sarr, (Allan)
      Lukaku, DCL, Antonio

Greenwood or Jota will most likely be replaced by Raphinha next GW

Who would you pick as a one week punt before putting Raphinha back in next week? (I already have Sarr)

      A) Benrahma v Southampton (A)
      B) Dele Alli v Palace (A)
      C) Bergwijn v Palace (A)
      D) Saka v Norwich (H)

Wildcard? Just get Raphinha and a bench option with a decent fixture this week (e.g. Ben White)
